What is the Diameter of a Stealth Bike Wheel

Bicycle wheel diameter by height. Bike frame sizes, wheels by height. how to choose a size?

Bicycle frame size (size) is the height and length of the frame, size (15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, etc.) in inches, centimeters (44, 45, 46, 47, etc.).) or conventional units (XS, S, M, L, XL) in the table “choose a frame. how tall?” The vertical (seatpost) tube is most often measured, sometimes the length of the upper tube (from the handlebars to the saddle). We will help you choose a bike frame of your size for your height!

When choosing a bike, start with wheel size and frame size. Different types of frames provide for different (vertical, inclined, recumbent) fit and several sizes of bicycle frames for different sizes.

Bike frame

The bike frame in the model range is made in several sizes: mountain bikes in 3. 5 standard sizes, road 2 or 3 options, and folding bikes in one universal size.

The frame of a children’s bicycle is sized for a specific wheel diameter: it is easier to determine how to choose a children’s bicycle by the wheel size (table of children’s bicycle sizes)

The size of the frame in terms of height must be selected from the size of the wheel: the larger the wheel, the smaller the size. The popular Stealth Navigator 500 series bike is available with three wheel diameters and 3-4 frame sizes. Let’s look at the height of 175-180 cm which frame is suitable for growth (table).

Bicycle wheel dimensions. How to choose a bicycle wheel size (diameter) for height?

The table shows popular bicycle wheel sizes and heights for adults and kids bikes. Large bicycles in one wheel size are available in several sizes. The table shows the average value, you can choose the diameter of the wheel individually by height.

When driving in the city, it is better to choose a bike with an average wheel size of 24 or 26 inches. When driving on highways, asphalt roads and rough terrain, wheels should be 26, 28, 29 inches. Large bicycle wheels reduce energy consumption when traveling at high speeds and transmit less vibration to the handlebars and saddle. Recommendation: For a height of about 150 cm or less, limit the choice of a bicycle to 24 “wheels for city riding and 26” wheels for riding on asphalt and dirt roads. Bicycles with a wheel size of 20 inches are easy to store and transport, but less convenient to ride. With a large frame size (16 inches and above. adult models), these models with small wheels are less stable on uneven roads when driving. The position of the center of mass and the distribution of the rider’s weight depends on the size of the bicycle wheels and the frame design. During the ride, there is a constant transfer of the rider’s weight between the handlebars, saddle and pedals. On bicycles with contact pedals (hooks or tour clips), the leg force is applied to both pedals simultaneously. To reduce fatigue and stress on the knee joint, select a smaller frame size or a specially designed frame. On a bike with a regular frame, it may be necessary to change the height, shape and stem. The height and width of the bicycle seat is selected individually.

What is the best bicycle wheel size??

In the spring-summer period, parents begin to think about purchasing a bicycle for their child. And it is at this moment that mistakes are made in the search for the right purchase. In the choice, first of all, you should not rely on the appearance of the product, as this is deceptive.

Before buying, you need to know that a properly selected bike affects the human body and its further condition.

Bicycle wheel markings table. Wheel size comparison

In wheels, a lot depends on the diameter: rolling, wheel grip and driving safety. As the diameter increases, the quality of the rim increases and so much the better for the cyclist.

20-inch wheels

  • Rim diameter: 406.
  • Children’s bike for height from 120 to 140 cm.
  • Weight up to 40 kg.
  • Folding mechanisms are suitable for the initial stage in riding training.
  • A good option for children from 5 to 9-10 years old who have only recently got behind the wheel.

24-inch wheels

  • Rim diameter: 507.
  • For adults and adolescents from 140 to 170 cm tall and weighing up to 70 kg.
  • There are models with adjustable handlebars, seats and the ability to fold the bike.
  • Models are suitable for city walks and trips on flat roads.

26-inch wheels

  • Rim diameter: 622.
  • High-speed, mountain models for lovers of fast and safe driving.
  • Height from 160 to 185 cm for weight up to 90 kg

27.5-inch wheels

  • Rim diameter: 622.
  • For teenagers and adults with a height of 165 cm.
  • Weighing up to 95 kg.
  • Road bikes are suitable for long distance road trips.
  • Models are equipped with a low frame and the ability to select speeds.

29-inch wheels

  • Rim diameter: 622
  • Wheels for tall people (180) with a wide rim and maximum grip.
  • Load up to 105 kg.
  • Ideal for urban wet asphalt and uneven gravel mountain roads.

The relationship between wheel size and rider height

To avoid an unsuccessful purchase, it is better to immediately decide on the type of bike: city, mountain or walking. Each model can be matched to weight, height and management skills, so more time needs to be spent analyzing the right products.

For children, it is impossible to purchase transport “for growth” with a large frame diameter, this can negatively affect the child’s posture.

Choosing the right bike depends on the quality of the product, the price and the need for the item. But the main criterion among these is the choice of wheels for a person’s height.

Correctly selected options will not put stress on the back and knee joints, they will correctly distribute the cyclist’s weight.

Also, the bike must be selected for individual control capabilities ^

  • For a growing body up to 165 cm, it is better to choose the option with a shock-absorbing seat tube, which will not allow the seats to be lowered completely into the frame. This feature is inherent in mountain bikes;
  • For tall cyclists, models from 27 inches are good options, which eliminate overloading on the arms and back;
  • For tall people, the 29-inch version with high speed capabilities is suitable. Models are suitable for fast long distance driving. No stress on the spine and pedal movement is much easier than on 27 and 28 inch models.

Selection of bike type by height:

  • Height 190 cm (and more). road 50-52, road 46-48, mountain 41-44.
  • Height 180 cm. road 57-59, road. 56-58, mountain. 48-50.
  • Height 170 cm. road 53-55, road bikes 50-52 and mountain bikes 44-46.

When choosing a bicycle for children, their foot should reach the ground completely. The knee should be free of bend and discomfort when lowering the pedal. When riding a child, the knees should not touch the handlebars and the down tube of the bike, so it is better to pick up transport together with the future cyclist.

Effect of wheel size on bike speed

There is a direct relationship between speed and wheel diameter.

From a physical point of view, the larger the wheel, the more distance you can drive:

  • Let’s say if a bike is 29 inches, then it will be much faster and more practical than a 20 inch.

However, this dependence gives the opposite result in another way. The smaller the wheel diameter, the faster you pick up speed. This is the main advantage of children’s bicycles, which, with an equal load, can accelerate to the same distance as an adult on a road bike.

However, keeping the speed will be more difficult, you will need to constantly pedal. On 26-29 inch models, the distance is covered faster, the acceleration will be slow, but the speed remains longer.

Cross-country capacity of a bicycle from wheel size

Two things affect the bike’s flotation:

  • Profile;
  • Tire width that must not be less than 2 inches.

The profile with a deep, sculpted base will allow the cyclist to navigate any rough terrain. In this case, the 24 “model will be much more maneuverable and more comfortable on rocky and sandy soil than the 29” model.

The dependence of the size of the wheel affects the permeability, therefore, to save forces on difficult territory, models with a small wheel diameter are chosen.

It turns out that before buying, you need to define a couple more criteria:

  • What is the transport for;
  • How often will it be used on stony and sticky soil.

You can determine the size of the bicycle frame according to the following principle: the distance from the tube under the seat to the carriage assembly is measured. Depending on the change in the pipe, the rest of the parameters will change proportionally.

This distance can be converted to inches to determine the size of the bike you need. On average, 2.5 centimeters equals one inch. This calculation will give the frame size.

When choosing models for personal parameters, it should be borne in mind that models from 27 inches are suitable for a tall and thin physique, and models from 27 inches are suitable for a fuller and lower one. up to 26 inches inclusive.

Such a selection will allow the cyclist to feel better grip on the road, and it will be possible to maneuver vehicles in a dangerous situation. Taking into account the riding style and sports fitness of the cyclist is a good choice.

Bicycle wheel size and features

With the onset of the season, the streets are filled with cyclists. toddlers on bicycles with side wheels, their dads and moms on the mountain. The wheels are small, huge, wide and narrow. how not to get lost in this sea of spokes and sizes?

The easiest way to systematize this variety in a summary table of sizes:

And it immediately becomes clear what the size of the bicycle wheels depends on. For example, from the driver’s height or how the bike is positioned.

Relationship with growth

For very young cyclists, wheel and frame size is critical. While the baby is not very well oriented in space, the bicycle poses an increased danger to his health. Therefore, the wheels and frame are selected in such a way that the child’s leg freely lowered down reaches the ground. Hence the choice of small wheels. As for folding bicycles, the main requirement for them is small dimensions. A diameter of 20 inches is optimal for this.

As the child grows, so does the size of the bike. this is how teenage bicycles with 24-inch wheels appeared. And even after reaching an average height, you can select models with large wheels that allow you to ride with comfort and gain high speed if necessary.

For leisurely walks, 26-inch wheels are good, this size is great for transporting a bike. However, it does not take up much space. If speed is important, a 27 “size is more suitable. These rim dimensions are common on road bikes. You can also navigate which bike is suitable by the frame.

29 ” wheels are ideal for people with a height of 180 cm and above.

A video clearly showing the difference between 26 and 29 wheels using the example of overcoming pits and obstacles:

Here are some figures for the most popular models, more precisely, the size of the frames and their ratio to the height of the cyclist:

  • Height 190 cm (and more). road 50-52, road 46-48, mountain 41-44.
  • Height 180 cm. road 57-59, road. 56-58, mountain. 48-50.
  • Height 170 cm. road 53-55, road bikes 50-52 and mountain bikes 44-46.

So everything is interconnected. rim diameter, frame size and rider height. Of course, these are not strict rules, but only a recommendation and hint when buying a bicycle. There are more accurate tables that take into account not only height, but also the length of the legs. However, this is more relevant for athletes performing tricks or setting speed records. The average two-wheeler will have enough of the above tips and the ability to adjust the saddle and handlebar heights.

Maybe someone else will need to purchase a stem, but, in any case, first you need to understand exactly what the bike will be bought for. From folding models, no one will expect a perfect fit or speed characteristics, and almost all cruiser models are designed only for leisurely defiles on flat paths. Tires play a huge role in the “size” of wheels for a bicycle.

Models familiar to all with their characteristic frame shape and dimensions acquire a completely different look with a change in tire dimensions. An example of this is the emergence of a fat bike. The usual bike, “changed” into wide tires, set on suitable rims, is absolutely transformed. Not only the appearance was transformed. the control, the dynamics of acceleration and much more changed completely. So it is with standard wheel sizes. It is enough to put “slicks” instead of aggressive rubber. acceleration becomes noticeably easier and less effort is required to maintain a constant speed.

Reference: Slick, slick. (slick) type of tires without a raised tread, which reduces the grip area with the road surface.

Bicycle wheel diameter. how many inches to choose.

Hello everyone, I’m very glad to see you on the PRO-bike blog. Today I want to talk about the choice of the diameter of the bicycle wheels. How wheel size affects ride comfort and efficiency.

The wheel is one of the main parts of a bicycle, without a wheel it is impossible to imagine movement. The wheel and bushing (axle) of the bicycle reduce the effort expended when driving tenfold.

Let’s imagine a load weighing 100 kg (an adult and a bicycle luggage). When a cyclist tries to move (drag, i.e. the wheels are locked), such a load will require about 600 N (Newton) force or the equivalent of 60 kg of mass (if lifted) with a wheel diameter of 1 meter. However, if the wheels are unlocked, the cyclist will only need about 18 N of effort or the equivalent of 1.8 kg (if lifted). The difference is enormous. The wheel is your circular lever that lightens the effort when driving.

Now let’s compare how the bike’s functionality changes when the wheel diameter changes. For comparison, let’s take a large wheel. 29 inches and a small one. 24 inches:

The larger the diameter of the wheels, the larger the contact area with the surface (provided the tire is the same width), the better the permeability on sand, mud, snow and other dirt road.

Bigger wheels slow down faster.

Wheels with a large diameter are easier to overcome obstacles, since the angle of “arrival” of the wheel on any object is reduced.

Wheels with a smaller radius are more durable and less prone to the appearance of the “eight”. Of course, this feature must be supported by the presence of the correct spokes and a good rim.

Large wheels easily and comfortably drive over small irregularities (roots, stones, small holes), but do not perform well if there are large potholes along the way. Wheels with a smaller radius smoothly roll in large holes, but on small irregularities, the ride may seem like you are driving on a washboard.

Small wheels are easier to spin (acceleration at start), but on long journeys, wheels with a larger diameter will take you to your destination faster, more comfortably and with less effort.

Less wheel diameter means less weight on the bike. Large diameter bicycles are heavier because in addition, there are a little more frame, fork, etc. Balance needed!

Sometimes cyclists, fans of downhill skiing, urban freeriding, dropping and similar styles experiment with combining wheels of different diameters. The front is 26 “and the rear is 24”.

In the bicycle market, wheel diameter is divided as follows:

Teenage and Folding bikes with 20 “and 24” diameters

MTB mountain bikes 26 “

Hybrid bikes 28 “

Road and highway 27 “and 29”

Everyone chooses the wheel diameter for himself, depending on what type of riding you plan to use the bike for.

Do you need a bike? Highlights on bike selection modules have been covered in related articles:

Bicycle wheel diameter

The diameter of a bicycle wheel is one of the most important characteristics. It should be understood that the diameter of the wheel is a double concept, that is, you can mean two different values - the diameter of the rim and the diameter of the bicycle tire. That is, the total wheel diameter depends on the tire height.

Consider the numbers in the table for matching the rim diameter to the tire diameter:

tires (final, double value)

Bike type where this size applies

BMX, folding, kids

Teenage, Soviet old-style, for freeride and other extreme types of cycling

Mountain new type

diameter, stealth, bike, wheel

Hybrid, old-style Soviet

Thus, it can be concluded that wheels with the same rim size (622 mm) may have different wheel diameters (27, 28 and 29 inches). And it depends on the height of the tire. In turn, the height of the tire differs quite significantly between bicycles (64 mm, 89 mm and 115 mm).

Influence of the wheel diameter on the speed qualities of the bicycle

If we consider this issue from the point of view of physics, then, in fact, the larger the size of the wheel, the longer the distance can be covered in one rotation. The linear velocity is equal to the product of the angular velocity and the radius of the wheel. Consequently, a direct proportional dependence of the speed of movement on the size of the wheel is visible. However, the application of muscle strength will require more.

Conclusion: to accelerate, you need to spend more time and energy, but the speed will be higher. Therefore, in order to achieve increased speed performance on large wheels, it is worth seriously thinking about the physical capabilities of an amateur cyclist. That is, there are 2 options to choose from: “pump up” strength and endurance, or choose a bike with slightly smaller wheels.

Polish cyclists conducted an experiment to compare the speed qualities of mountain bikes with wheel sizes of 29 and 26 inches. The track was laid over rough terrain with climbs, stones, sand. As a result, bicycles with 29-inch wheels were 13 seconds worse in speed. And as a result of the sprint competition, the result was almost the same.

Bottom Line: For rides on a good road with infrequent stops, it is more convenient to use a bicycle with wheels with a diameter of 29 inches. And for mountain hikes with frequent stops. with size 26.

Dependence of the bike’s cross-country ability on the wheel size

It is worth noting that, first of all, the cross-country ability (the ability to drive off-road) is influenced by the profile and width of the tire (it must be at least 2 inches). The deep, sculpted profile helps the bike ride on any rough terrain. 26 “wheels are more maneuverable on rocks, sand, etc. than 29” wheels. In addition, it takes less effort to get the bike moving when stopping in difficult terrain.

Conclusion: before choosing a bike, you need to think carefully. for what purposes it will be used. And only after that you can start choosing a specific type of bike, wheel diameter and profile. You should not immediately stop your choice on expensive top-end bicycles. then it will be easier to replace it when you determine the priority type of riding and improve your personal skill.

Dimensions of an adult bike.

How to choose the right bike size for an adult or child?

Everything seems to be good. both the color is suitable, and the mechanics are working perfectly, but you get tired quickly, and skating turns into torture in an hour or two. All clear. The bike is the wrong size. To avoid such disappointments, you need to know what sizes of velor are, and how they fit your height.

Without theory. nowhere

Almost all bike frames come in a wide variety of sizes. And each manufacturer classifies them differently. Almost every. Each bicycle model has at least 3-4 sizes and, accordingly, different markings. Frames are marked by height in letter and digital form. The defining parameter for any bike frame is the seat tube height. It is measured from the center of the carriage to the tube cutoff and can be specified either in inches or centimeters.

The length of the seat tube, of course, is not the only indicator that characterizes the size of the bike, but the main one. The geometry of the frame is also determined by the angles of inclination of the pipes at the joints, the length of these pipes and their relative position. Therefore, it is unambiguous to say that such and such a number is suitable for a specific person, but such and such is not suitable, it is impossible to say.

The tables, which we will definitely provide, can and should be used. But this is not a panacea for all ills. In addition to the size of the frame in terms of height, there is a difference in the size of the wheel, which should not be forgotten either. There are many options for frames with different lengths of the upper tube, which greatly affects the fit and unloading of the shoulder joints, elbows, and hands. The stem length also greatly affects the fit and has a ton of adjustments. The wheelbase is critical when driving in different conditions, the angle of inclination of the fork affects the handling and stability. there are a lot of things, so let’s start simple.

Frame marking by size

There is a tradition all over the world to label all bicycle frames with letters, numbers and their combinations. Consider the main types of frame markings from different manufacturers.

There are a total of 6 frame sizes for seat tube height:

  • XS is the smallest bike size for the smallest riders;
  • S. small;
  • M. medium frame variant, the most common;
  • L. slightly above average;
  • XL. large;
  • XXL. well, very large.

And this is where the confusion begins, because each size corresponds to two options in numerical terms. This equivalent is conditional and serves to roughly determine the correspondence of your physical data with the data of a particular frame. And here is this table:

If someone is interested, then the data in this table is calculated using the formula for selecting an adult bike. According to your parameters, where “d” is the length of your legs, and “D” is the size of the frame. Now we will try to determine by the formula: D = d0.56 / 2.54. The formula uses two coefficients. 0.56 is the ratio of leg length to height, and 2.54 is the conversion of inches to centimeters. Such arithmetic.

Since all people are different in size and the same ratio of legs and height cannot be found, this number is also very approximate.

But there are times when your data correspond to the overall dimensions of two frames at once. Not buying the same two is great at once. What to do in this case? Think.

  • If I am planning an active cycling lifestyle, then I will choose a smaller bike size, because the smaller bike is easier to handle and therefore weighs less.
  • If I am full, then it will be difficult for me to climb a high frame.
  • If I am thin and skinny, then I need to choose a frame slightly larger to seem more weighty and not to be blown away by the wind. Quite serious.
  • If I have already bought a bike and it doesn’t suit me with its size, although the tables all agree, then I probably forgot about the saddle and handlebar adjustments, which in most cases have a very wide range. In addition, I always have the opportunity to change the stem or seat tube.
  • If I have hands down to my knees, then I’ll take a bigger bike. In which case, you can always reduce the adjustment.

You can also find markings for both a child’s bike and a women’s bike. Let’s pay some attention to them.

Dimensions of children’s bicycles

The manufacturer, when producing a children’s bike, knows that the baby is growing very quickly. And so he makes some size adjustments and tries to make the frame in such a way that the adjustment range is as wide as possible. However, the dimensions of the frame should not be taken into account as much as the diameter of the bicycle wheels. The controllability is high and the maximum speed depends on this parameter. You should not measure your baby with a caliper, you still do not know how he will grow in six months or even a couple of months, so a child’s bike should be chosen with some margin.

Bicycle dimensions: dimensions and features of choice

A bicycle is a vehicle that is familiar to everyone from childhood. It is on a bicycle that a small child begins to learn to ride, and after that the “iron horse” is used for walks or professional sports.

Selection features

The first step is to figure out why you need to know the size of the bike. So, such parameters are, of course, very important, since the following depends on them:

  • will it be comfortable to ride on it, will it fit the rider’s parameters;
  • method and possibilities of its transportation;
  • where can you store it.

Varieties of bicycles

The first thing that determines the size as a whole, the dimensions of individual components and parts, is the type of bike. It happens:

  • road;
  • single-suspended or double-suspended;
  • mountainous;
  • highway;
  • urban;
  • cruise;
  • tracking;
  • tourist;
  • BMX;
  • hardtail;
  • hybrid;
  • womens, teenagers, childrens, classic.

Each of the above types is used for different types of driving in a certain area and territory. For example, the design features of a mountain bike are designed for riding on mountainous, rocky terrain, while an urban bike is perfect for regular trips on a flat road. The trekking bike is preferred by cyclists who like high speed and are cycling professionally.

Standard sizes

Every manufacturer who manufactures bicycles, from the simplest “iron horses” to professional models, must take into account the standards clearly spelled out in the norms and requirements. According to the rules and regulations, the maximum length of a bicycle can be 2 meters, the minimum is 1.8 meters, and the height is 1.2 meters. Now let’s take a closer look.

Frame dimensions

The data that correspond to the parameters of the bicycle frame of the mountain and city bike types are shown in the table below.

Table 1

Human height in cm

But the parameters of the folding mountain and folding city bikes do not correspond to those indicated in the table. There is only one size available for them, which is suitable for people from 155 to 185 centimeters tall.

In the table you can see the dimensions of the road bike and road bike frame.

table 2

These models are suitable for walking and competition. So, when choosing a bike of this type, you must take into account the parameters of the frame.

Steering wheel types

The steering wheel is an integral part of every bicycle, thanks to which transport is controlled. A bicycle handlebar can be:

  • direct;
  • steering wheel-riser, or as it is also called “horns”.

A straight handlebar is most often installed on mountain and trekking bikes. Experts say that a horn-type steering wheel is more comfortable for driving, as it makes it possible to adjust the position of the hands. But behind the wheel of a straight type, the hands are held exclusively in one position.

The diameter of the bicycle wheels is what the buyer pays attention to when choosing a vehicle. If we talk about models that are designed for an adult, then the diameter of their wheels can be 26, 27, 27.5, 28 and 29 inches. The diameter of the wheels depends on:

  • the effort that will need to be made to accelerate;
  • the maximum speed that the vehicle can develop;
  • how easy and convenient it will be to manage it.

It is also worth noting the fact that wheels of a certain diameter are intended for each type of bicycle. For example, bicycles with 26-inch wheels are ideal for off-road riding, pits and for overcoming various obstacles. Wheel sizes 27.5 and 28 inches are the average size preferred by most cycling enthusiasts. There are manufacturers who sell adult models with 20-inch wheels. Such models are used by fans of extreme driving.

Dimensions in packing

Earlier in the article, we said that the size of the bike in the box is of great importance. Of course, when buying a vehicle, you can check the packaging information with a sales assistant. But there are approximate parameters that can be guided by.

Criterias of choice

The size of different parts of the bike determines how comfortable and convenient it will be to ride it, whether riding it will harm a person’s health. When choosing a model, you need to pay attention to:

  • the height and weight of the person who will ride the bike;
  • wheel diameter;
  • frame size;
  • steering wheel type;
  • type of terrain on which driving will be carried out.

How to choose a bike for your height

The larger the diameter of the wheel, the greater the speed, only more effort is needed to spin the wheel.

Surely every second (even every first!) Blog reader has a bicycle. an affordable vehicle that does not harm the environment. Easy to store, maintainable at home, easy to use both in the park and on the road.

In this article, we will tell you how to choose the right types of bikes for height: kids, mountain, hybrid and road.

Cyclist height

Take a minute and measure your height without shoes. It is important to know your height in order to choose the right bike, taking into account its size.

The size is the dimensions of bicycle frames in inches, centimeters, or written in symbols. Bigger frames (L, XL, XXL) are built from thicker tubes to support the taller rider’s weight. A smaller bike has an average weight of 150-200 grams less than that of the neighboring larger size. A bike with a small frame is more maneuverable and easier to hold upright than a bike with a huge frame. On models with a large frame, you can get into the ideal position for maximum speed.

Structural parts of the frame

The choice of bike depends on several factors. First, decide on the type of bike: mountain, highway, hybrid or kids. Having made a choice, we understand the design and dimensions of the frame, which is measured in inches.

The geometry of the frame affects the behavior of the bike. The main elements that determine the reaction of the frame to external influences:

  • Top tube length (A) is the distance between the centers of the headset and seat post. Long top tube gives the bike “stability” and less maneuverability.
  • Steering angle (M). The angle between the steering column and a line parallel to the ground. Large angle (close to vertical) provides bike maneuverability.
  • Seat Angle (L). The angle between the seat tube and a line parallel to the ground. At low angles (large backward tilt of the tube), the rider’s weight shifts backward. providing traction, at more vertical angles the rider’s weight shifts forward, providing a better fit for power pedaling.
  • Wheelbase is the distance between the front and rear axles of the wheels. Longer base gives the bike more stability and less maneuverability.
  • The length of the rear stays is the distance between the carriage and the axis of the rear hub. Smaller rear frame stays provide better rear wheel traction and more agility. Usually the length of the rear stays is as short as possible to increase the rigidity and strength of the frame.
  • Carriage height (clearance, ground clearance) is the distance between the bike carriage and the ground. Increasing clearance. decreases the stability of the bike, but increases flotation and vice versa. Road bikes have a lower bottom bracket than mountain bikes.
  • Stem length. distance from the center of the steering column to the rudder; affects the maneuverability of the bike and the riding position.

How to choose the right mountain bike and hybrid bike for your height?

A popular frame parameter is the length of the top tube, but the size of the frame is usually determined by the length of the seat tube. It is important to understand that frame geometry can be arbitrary and frames with the same length may have different sizes. To determine the desired frame length, rest your elbow on the “nose” of the saddle and place your hand on the stem. Place your fingers on the stem cover.

The size of the frame depends on the height of the person, small people need smaller frames. Frame size is measured in two ways:

  • С-С, from the axis of the carriage (pedals) to the centerline of the upper tube;
  • С-Т, from the carriage axis to the upper cut of the seat tube.

Traditionally, road bike frames are measured in centimeters or millimeters, while hybrid and mountain bikes are measured in inches.
