Universal fenders for bike installation

Cycle days Not a day without a bike!

Quick release short wings

Made of plastic, they are attached to the frame with a special clip. The distance between the wing and the tire is 10. 20 cm. Because of this, the level of protection is much worse and the dirt flies in all directions. Quick-release short fenders are insensitive to clogging with mud between the fender and the tire, they are quickly removed when transporting the bike. But, with them, the cyclist will be covered in mud. If the height is too high, such wings become a pointless accessory that does not fulfill its main function. The plastic mount on my fender came off pretty quickly. Also not a hot option

Bike wings

Bicycle mudguards are the most controversial topic for all cycling enthusiasts and pros. Bicycle masters prefer to ride without them. But for regular trips around the city, and even outside the city, cycling wings provide a number of advantages. Did I have it myself, in total? 3 pairs of different types of wings. I haven’t found the perfect wing yet, but unfortunately only the rear bicycle wing.

It is secured with a plastic clip and fixed to the seat tube. Ideally. Spinning back and forth. But this is not critical. But the mount does not fall off.

On the Kotovsky website, it is more or less written about the wings on the bike. But not completely. Let’s go over the main arguments of the opponents of bicycle fenders.

Excess weight. In one of my articles, I expressed my attitude towards lightening the bike, but in short. do not do the crap. In relation to the fenders, this means that nowadays all good flap options have perfectly acceptable weight classes. Metal as a material is a thing of the past long ago.

The aerodynamics are deteriorating. In my opinion, this item could only be used in time trial races, where every second counts. In ordinary pokatushki, at normal speeds, the influence of the wings on aerodynamics is vanishingly small. For those who really feel the negative effect, I can only advise you to exercise and eat more.

Appearance deteriorates. I can’t argue with that. for me the wings on a bicycle are disgusting, and I can not do anything about it. I will only note that I am talking about sports bikes, on city bikes and touring shields look quite harmonious.

The wings will not protect you from the rain, you will still be wet. Sounds reasonable, but only in case of rain. Nevertheless, most often we have small rains, which are not a problem, as the bike dries before our eyes. It is quite another matter when the stream of water from the rear wheel beats gently into the loin, soaking the diaper. Riding with a wet diaper is quite unpleasant, and on many saddles, painful. I’m not talking about possible health problems.

If you are too lazy to read further, watch a video about wings. What are they:

The site lomasterclass.ru tells about different types of bicycle wings.

Road Bike & Hybrid Fenders

Here, the question of appearance is even more important than in the case of mountain bikes. There is a very elegant option that almost does not disfigure the road. the Crud RoadRacer Mk2. Personally, I haven’t had time to acquire it yet, but a roadie buddy recommended it.

The system is easily removable and adaptive; such fenders are almost invisible on a bicycle. According to my friend, they protect from water perfectly.

Alternatively, the classic SKS Race Blade can be supplied. I put these on a hybrid, with the onset of the rainy season in our Estonia. The design is also easily removable, impressions from several years of operation are positive.

Stationary long wings

They are made of metal and metal-plastic. Bolted to frame or fork at three locations. Provides maximum protection because it covers a quarter of the front wheel and half of the rear wheel, and is close to the tire. Stationary long fenders at the rear can be combined with the trunk. When buying such wings, one must take into account that they are heavy. Another disadvantage is that, due to the short distance, dirt gets clogged between the wheel and the wing. Therefore, these fenders are usually installed on road and city bikes.

As you can see, there are no ideal bicycle fenders. The longer the wing and the closer it is to the wheel, the better the protection. But, such wings are not suitable, for example, for cross-country and other extreme disciplines. Even the best wings will not help in heavy rain. Extremals, for whom water and dirt are little things on the way to victory, they do not need them at all.

But Kotovsky has a different opinion about the road racers.

Types of wings and their effectiveness

Stationary short wings

They are usually made of plastic. They are attached to the frame or fork or at one point with a bolt. They are about one and a half times shorter than the long wings. The stationary short fenders are close to the tire and provide pretty good protection. These fenders are lightweight and well-secured, but provide poor dirt protection for the front derailleur and shins. Personally, I had such wings and broke very quickly. The mountings were not at all so hot.

Mounting methods

It is very rare when you need an exotic tool to fasten the wings: many of them are attached without any tools at all. using your fingers.

The mounting holes for the fenders are surprisingly versatile. rest assured that fenders that match the diameter and width will work with the type of mount. It will not be superfluous to make sure that all the necessary fasteners are included in the kit, but most often everything is fine here. all screws, bolts, clamps and rubber bands are waiting for you in the package.

Folding

A great option for those who are lucky with the weather and those who do not want to forever associate the image of their bike with some kind of additional elements.

The most accurate explanation of the whole essence of such wings is the model called Ass Saver. These wings are really ready to save your butt from splashes and a small amount of dirt, without disturbing the clean look.

Not all folding fenders can be recommended for constant riding over rough terrain or in conditions of heavy rainfall difficult.

Nobody bothers you to combine two types of fenders. use a frame overlay for front protection, and place a more reliable fender at the back.

universal, fenders, bike, installation

Folding wings have a lot of advantages:

  • Weight (wings are made of thin plastic);
  • Price (with rare exceptions, the price is much lower than full-size ones);
  • Optionality (if you wanted to. they took it off and put it in a backpack or fixed it on the frame);
  • Ease of attachment (fixed to the frame or under the saddle without tools);
  • Aesthetics (can be attributed to the point above: as soon as they felt that the appearance of the bike was not pleasing, they took it off and put it away);
  • Versatility of sizes (we can say that one size fits all, and for special occasions there is a wide version).

You can also make such wings yourself from office supplies and even a plastic bottle, patterns and instructions can be easily found on the Internet.

Do you need wings at all or not? Except for you, no one will answer this question. It all depends on many factors. If you do not live in Phoenix or Yuma (the sunniest cities in the world), then we still recommend having some kind of minimal wing to ensure a sufficient level of cleanliness and dryness. In the image below, there are two bicycles of approximately the same period. one of them does not have a hint of fenders, the second has two completely traditional full-size fenders.

We dare to assume that bicycles were used for different purposes, which determined the need for fenders, a saddle with a shock absorber or a huge front wheel.

Fullsize

These are solid wings, which often come in pairs: front and rear. Sometimes also complemented by an overlay on the bottom of the frame for great protection.

Despite their seriousness, they can be quick-detachable. Most likely, you don’t even need a tool for such wings. It is very good when the fenders are equipped with an additional mudguard, such as these.

Do not assume that full-size fenders unambiguously spoil the appearance of the bike: some of them, on the contrary, are able to improve it, and some even complete the image.

Types of bicycle fenders

Ideal bicycle fenders can be described as follows: they should be long and wide, as close to the tire as possible, but still have enough clearance to leave room for dirt to stick when riding on a dirt road during or after rain. In addition, they should be lightweight, quickly and easily removed and installed.

READ  How to choose pedals for a mountain bike

How do you choose bicycle fenders that meet all of the above criteria? And is there such an accessory at all? We’ll figure out.

Products can be divided into the following groups:

  • Short stationary. they are about 1.5 times shorter than long ones, are attached at one point with a bolt (to the frame or fork) and are made of plastic. Such products are lightweight and close to the tire. They are splash-proof, but not completely. Most of the time, the shins and front derailleur are still exposed to dirty splashes.
  • Short quick-release. made of plastic and mounted with a special clamp directly to the frame. The distance to the tire turns out to be 10–20 cm, which does not allow providing high-quality protection. Water and dirt still fly from under them in all directions. The only positive point is that such an element is quickly attached and removed. But it does not fulfill its direct function.
  • Long stationary. most often they are made of metal-plastic or metal and have three attachment points. Such products cover the fourth part of the wheel, are located close to the tire and therefore provide reliable protection. However, when driving on a dirt road, dirt is constantly clogged between the wheel and the wing.

Everyone chooses the ideal fenders for a bicycle according to their needs

It turns out that there is no answer to the question of how to choose the perfect fenders for your bike. As there are no perfect wings. The long, close-fitting product protects well, but is too heavy and traps dirt. Short versions are lightweight and quick-release, but poorly splash-proof.

Summing up, we can say that during heavy rain, no accessories will help. Not from below, so from above. you will get wet anyway. And for those for whom cycling is the meaning of life, it does not matter in what form to win. Real athletes and extreme sportsmen do not pay attention to such trifles as mud and water. Therefore, everyone decides for himself which accessories to choose for a two-wheeled vehicle.

Universal mudguards for mountain and road bikes

Yes, yes, there is such a thing! The pictures below show models of fenders that are easy to attach and at the same time practically do not violate the beauty of the bike with their presence.!

Quick release bike fenders

These wings are the simplest and are made of plastic or a combination of plastic and rubber. The design consists of short or long fenders, which, as a rule, are attached to the front of the fork rod, and the rear to the seatpost using a special clip or a tightening strap. Mostly this type of fender is widely used on mountain bikes.

  • Can be easily removed at any time without the use of tools at hand;
  • Low weight;
  • Since the gap between the tire and the wing is large enough (10-20 cm), this space is not clogged with dirt.
  • Low level of protection, since they only impede the flow of dirt that flies from under the wheel (due to the large clearance);
  • Flimsy fastening of the wings;
  • Good models are quite expensive;
  • Suitable mainly for mountain bikes or hybrids.

Wing types

Fenders are available in full size and foldable.

Which one to use depends on the following factors:

  • Weather;
  • Features of routes;
  • Appearance.

In our opinion, the material of the wings is not so important and this factor relates rather to the appearance than to the degree of protection. Of course, for some, factors such as weight and aerodynamics are also important, but this category of people is unlikely to turn to this article for information.

For or against installing fenders

If you are not an athlete and not a complete fan of the bike mount, then the installation of the wings is a must. Bicycle mudguards are determined by the type of bike and its purpose. Advantages of installing fenders:

  • This is protection against splashes and dirt sticking to you and the bike parts;
  • Correctly fitted fenders improve the appearance of the bike and even increase its safety on the road;
  • The period between preventive maintenance and mountain bike adjustments increases;
  • The bike breaks down less, fails and washes less often.
  • The fenders also break, both when driving, and when parking and transporting;
  • Fenders can be difficult to store and transport.

True, some of these difficulties can be eliminated by installing quick-detachable wings.

Bicycle mudguards can be divided into two classes:

  • stationary;
  • quick-detachable.

For mountain bikes, quick release mudguards are recommended. In principle, for a bike with two suspensions, this is the optimal solution. Almost all budget fenders are made of plastic, which practically does not affect the weight of the bike.

Based on the above features, you can stop at the choice of suitable wings.

We shorten the mustache

The ideal option for installing the wings is only in the picture in the instructions Soldering iron with a flat nozzle and a mustache before soldering

Now you need to shorten the whiskers of the wing attachment to the feathers. Fortunately, the brackets are already standing, and you can measure how much to shorten them.

Soldered mustache, extra 27 mm cut

I screwed the whiskers to the feathers, the wing was in place. And with the help of a regular ruler he measured out that the shortening should be 27 millimeters. Then the hole for the fasteners will be exactly in the middle of the wing slot, and it will be possible to correct the gap between the wing and the wheel.

Carbon Plates

Then I found the most even area on the mustache, without a strong drop in profile. And barbarously cut this work of art with an ordinary hacksaw for metal.

Ready for gluing

For back gluing, I installed a flat tip in the soldering iron. At first I set the temperature to 270 degrees. plastic “did not go”. I put something around 380. The plastic started to give in. I just pressed two pieces of the mustache on both sides of the flat tip at once. And with a light movement he connected them together.

4 minute epoxy

The first time I brought them together a little crookedly. I tried to disengage. and the gluing turned out to be surprisingly strong. I even tried to break the mustache at the gluing point. It didn’t work out. I also soldered the second mustache crooked.

The plates are glued and wrapped

I worked on everything with a file to make it more or less even. And I decided to paste over the place of the solder with carbon plates 0.5 mm thick.

2nd layer of thread with super glue

I cut these plates with scissors by 3 centimeters. six pieces for each mustache. I took a hobby epoxy. I thought it was 15 minutes, it turned out to be 4x, it turned out, as always, after I spread the glue and started gluing the plates. Somehow she quickly froze

I wrapped the plates with nylon thread, for strength. so that they did not disperse (after all, epoxy does not adhere well to plastic). He spread the epoxy again. once again he smeared the bandage around and wound the thread.

Painted front wing whiskers

In the final, he sanded the whole thing, wound the threads and soaked them with cyacrine glue. He wrapped the mustache with masking tape, took matte paint in a spray can and painted it. If you look closely, you can see the winding place. If you move back about a meter, then, without knowing, you can simply not notice it.

Option number one. plastic wings

Bike front fender

Quite simple. You will need a bottle of liquid soap, a knife, an M5 bolt and 20 minutes of free time. You need to find a suitable plastic bottle and cut off the side from it with a clerical knife.

Plastic bottle

She will serve as a wing. The bottom of the plastic container is usually made denser than the sides. This is in our hands, we will attach to the fork through this part of the bottle. Try on the future wing on the bike, mark the place where the mount will be. If you need to cut the shape in the right places, the plastic lends itself well to processing.

Almost finished bike mudguard

After the hole for the mounting bolt has been drilled, you can spray paint it in any suitable color. We fasten the improvised fender to the bike and go to test new things.

The rear wing can be made from a 5 liter canister of engine oil. The plus is that it is already black, you do not need to paint.

Oil canister

We cut off the desired shape, approximately as shown in the photo. For attachment to the bike, we will use the bracket from the rear brake light (beacon). Two holes must be drilled or melted in the canister lid. We put a cable tie in them, with which we will tighten the cover and bracket.

Clamp connection

Now we attach the bracket to the seatpost, and screw the cut piece of the canister into the cover. For a more reliable connection, you can melt the joints of the screed and the wing with hot melt glue. Or molten plastic.

We strengthen the connection with hot melt glue

To increase the length, if necessary, you can simply add a piece from the same canister. Place on rivets or bolted connections. Simple bike fenders are ready.

Why put fenders on a bike

Fenders for a two-wheeled vehicle have advantages and disadvantages, just like any other part of a bicycle. Of the clear advantages of installing the part in question, several points can be distinguished:

  • good protection of the wheels and the cyclist himself from dirt;
  • stylish appearance that will not spoil the bike at all (subject to the correct choice of fenders);
  • this part is quite simple and quick to install on the bike and can be removed in the same way.
READ  What happens if you get caught drunk on a bike

Usually, mountain / speed bike enthusiasts do not install fenders on their vehicle. they make the structure heavier, which automatically reduces the speed and maneuverability of the bike. But for using a bicycle in urban life, the wings will be very useful. they will at least protect the cyclist’s clothes from dirt and water splashes, and this is no longer a little.

Touring Bike Fenders

Full-size bicycle fenders are plastic or metal arches that cover the wheel approximately halfway down the horizontal line. Can be attached with two or one arch. There are versatile models on the market that are height adjustable for maximum protection from dirt.

How To Install A Rear Fender Fast On Any Bike

These bicycle fenders cover at least a quarter of the wheel and are very good at keeping out dirt. Fits on touring and hybrid bikes with tires no wider than 1.95”, but there are also models for mountain bikes.

Suppose your frame and fork allow for bog mounting. In this case, you will need a screwdriver and / or a 10 mm wrench. To fasten the arcs. an 8 key or a 4 hexagon. Attaching the front fender is very simple:

  • Lean the front fender against the hole in the crown of the fork, or on the gorilla for a shock absorber.
  • Insert the supplied mounting bolt, washer and nut. If there is a thread in the gorilla, then just attach the bolt.
  • As you can see, the arcs have almost fallen into place, and they only need to be tightened. All modern forks are threaded in the bow lugs. So just screw on both arcs.
  • Adjust the height of the bog so that it is as low and close to the tire as possible, but does not hit it.
  • Tighten the bolts all the way.

Installation and adjustment of the wing

Original very brief assembly instructions for CRUD ROADRACER MKII fenders

We carefully read the instructions, in which it is strongly recommended to use a double-sided sticky insert between the parts of the wing. so as not to fall off.

Super adhesive stickers

When I installed the rear fender, I peeled-sealed the tail section from this Velcro three times. A special impression on “super stickiness” she did not affect me. In my understanding, super-stickiness is when I once applied it, squeezed it. and then the fig unclenched it without breaking this adhesive tape. Well, okay. let it remain on the conscience of the manufacturer.

Brace and shock absorbers

universal, fenders, bike, installation

I hung the flap and the slat. I hung the wing by the tie to the front brake (I previously glued round soft gaskets to the wing).

Front wing slat

The front part of the wing, which is in front of the brake, got up somehow crookedly along the axis (with an offset). No matter how much I ruled her, she continued to return to her crooked position. A little unaesthetic, but does not affect speed.

Left centering brush

On the wing itself, between the mustache, I glued furry brushes so that the wing is centered on the rim and does not touch the tire. Pre-set them so that they are exactly above the surface of the rim against which the brake pads are pressed.

Then I adjusted the clearance between the wheel and the fender and extended all the nuts (FROM HAND, screws and nuts made of plastic!).

Front fender mounted, angled view

He slightly warmed the wing in the upper part of the arc with a hairdryer and pulled it back to give a gap.

Front fender installed, side view This is all that remains after assembly. On stock, let’s say.

When everything froze, I dripped the nuts with superglue so that they would not unscrew, rubbed the wings with a rag. voila. All is ready

The workmanship really made me very happy, despite the fact that the front wing attachment system had to be finalized. But, this is not the manufacturer’s fault by and large. 95% of road bikes come with a conventional fork, which has round feathers, and on which the wing will stand without modifications or special problems.

Well, if you have an aerodynamic frame, you know what to do.

Dish of the day: They didn’t make it to the end Downhill on the other side of success

Fitting Full Size (Short) Bolt-on Bike Wings

As a rule, full-size bicycle fenders equipped with additional side rods have three attachment points. one central, in the frame, two side. at the ends of the wheel axles or on the tubes of the rear stays. But there are also simplified (shortened) options, with only one bolt in the frame.

To mount such a three-point full-size bike wing with side links, you will need:

  • determine which flap is installed, front or rear (they differ slightly in size and fasteners);
  • place the guard over the corresponding wheel (front, rear) so that the side links are on opposite sides of the bicycle wheel;
  • align the hole in the wing with the corresponding threaded hole in the frame, screw the shield with threaded hardware (screw, bolt) to the bike frame;
  • unscrew the side nuts securing the wheel axles, put on the wheel axles the eyelets of the side links of the mudguard, put the nuts in place and tighten them all the way. If the side rods of the shield are attached with clamps to the feather tubes, then. hook these clamps onto the pipes and tighten the fasteners of the clamps.

What bicycle fenders are there?

Everyone should know such elementary and fundamental data. By the nature of the fastening, bicycle mud guards are:

  • with screw fastening in the frame (they are still unfairly called stationary). such protective wings are usually full-sized (but there are also shortened versions). This type of bicycle wing is practiced on the vast majority of types of bicycles. These include classic road bikes, city bikes, tourist tourers, pleasure cruisers, sports bike hybrids and even racing highways. Threaded holes for fixing stationary shields can also be found in mountain bike frames (MTB).
  • with quick-release attachment to frame pipes. this kind of mudguards are most often practiced on only one type of bicycle. sports mountain bikes, sometimes. on bicycle hybrids. But since these types of bicycles are incredibly popular among many categories of cyclists, such fenders are very popular and in demand.

Reasons for asking the question

How do I fit or attach a mudguard or mudguard to my bike? For an experienced cyclist, the question seems too simple, not worth the detailed explanation. But only experienced cyclists are not limited to cyclists. There are also beginners, inexperienced, ultimately technically illiterate cyclists. Accordingly, such a question has a right to exist. If an inexperienced cyclist types in an Internet search engine a query such as how to attach fenders, how to mount a fender on a bicycle, he should find an exhaustive answer to it. We will help him with this.

What tools do you need to have?

It’s hard to answer this seemingly simple question. To do this, you need to look at the type of hardware used (in case we are dealing with bolted fasteners) or screw drives of clamps (for quick-release fasteners). This may require:

  • Medium flat or Phillips screwdriver
  • wrenches (6mm, 8mm, 10mm);
  • internal hexagons or squares (4mm, 6mm);
  • corresponding threaded hardware (screws, bolts, screws. look at the standard screw holes in the bicycle frame).

As a rule, in such a simple matter, you can always get by with an emergency kit carried with a bicycle. If, of course, it is available.

Installation of quick-detachable fenders on mountain MTV

In this case, the technology for mounting the front and rear flaps is somewhat different.

In order to install the front quick-release flap, it is necessary to insert its mount from below into the steering tube glass, and tighten (screw) the spacer screw to the stop. Then put the flap itself under the plug, insert it into the fastening groove, press it down until it clicks. that’s it, the flap is installed.

The rear quick-release wing simply attaches its clamp to the seat tube. Further, the adjusting mechanism sets the required mud gap between the flap and the wheel protector. and that’s it, the installation is complete!

Quick release

Made of plastic, fixed to the frame with a special clamp. They are located far from the wheel, therefore they are not reliable protection from water during heavy rain. Of the advantages, it should be noted that such wings are easily dismantled; besides, it is difficult to clog them with dirt.

How to choose and install fenders on a bike, mounting methods

At home, craftsmen can do anything: even repair a car. over, tuning a simple transport will not take much time: every craftsman knows how to install wings on a bicycle. The nuances of work largely depend on the brand of the product. The set of tools required may also vary.

Road

They have a long service life and fit organically into the design of the bike. Reliably protects from dirt in the rain. Pros. good aerodynamic properties, appearance. Of the minuses, it should be noted the complexity of installation.

High-speed

For work, you need screwdrivers and wrenches of different calibers. The rim brakes are released before installation. To fix the front wing, you need to unscrew the white reflector, place the first mount under its screw. Paired clamps are mounted on bolts with washers.

The rear wing has four mounting holes. Pair clamps must be installed in the same way as at the front. Next, a bolt is put on the metal plate and the tube that connects the rear triangle plug. Finally, the last point is at the bottom of the seat tube.

READ  Switching speeds on a bike how to use it correctly

Next, adjustments should be made. If the front fender is installed correctly, it should not rub against the wheel while driving. To do this, you need to slightly move the clamps, having achieved the desired position of the product. After that, you can finally tighten the bolts.

Road bike mudguard

This is where lightness and aerodynamics are important, so aerodynamic options are quite appropriate, such as those on the car pictured below, namely the Crud RoadRacer Mk2.

These plastic fenders are very lightweight, they resist the pressure of dirt well and are almost invisible. Their cost is about 30 euros.

Installation nuances, taking into account the type of bike

How you fit the fenders to your bike depends on the type of bike. Before starting work, you should prepare all tools and consumables. In most cases, installation will not take much time and effort.

In general, think with your own head, do not take other people’s dogmas on faith. If you think that full-size fenders should always be on your bike, so be it, and send all the arguments of fetishists about the appearance (like mine) away.

Types of fenders for a bicycle

There is no single classification of types of fenders for a bicycle. However, one of the main characteristics is length, or rather dimension. Full-size fit snugly to the wheel and provide the most effective protection against water splashes. Short ones are installed significantly higher above the wheel surface and are designed, first of all, to protect the rider from dirt.

Good to know! The design of full-size models requires additional attachment points. They are realized due to wire antennae, which are fixed on the wheel axle.

The next difference is the fastening method. The front fender is installed by means of a spacer that fits into a hub under the crown of the fork. The second option is to mount with a plate and screws that are fixed to the hole in the gorilla of the plug. Make sure your bike has the hole you need before purchasing.

Important! The rear fender is secured with a clamp that fits over the seatpost. The second option. the plate and the screw are threaded into a special hole, and the bracket is additionally installed on the seatpost. We will tell you more about the installation by each of these methods below.

Do you need fenders on a bike

It is easy to guess that the main task, as well as the main advantage of the wings, is protection from water and dirt. After installing them, the owner of the bike will be relatively isolated from splashing from under the wheels. Nevertheless, some disadvantages should be taken into account:

  • Increase the total mass of the bike. This parameter will have a significant impact in the case of installing metal models, which are currently a rarity.
  • Decreased cross-country ability. When driving over irregularities, the triggered shock absorption can cause the wheel to rub against the protective element. In addition, if the bike is equipped with rain fenders (minimum clearance with the wheel), then when passing through muddy areas, they will instantly clog. This will create unnecessary resistance and may cause a forced stop. In urban conditions, the problem will be irrelevant.
  • Changing the original design of the bike. The point is controversial and depends on the personal preferences of the owner.

If the voiced cons are not scary, and you have decided whether you need fenders for a mountain bike, you can proceed with their selection and subsequent installation.

A detailed description of how to install fenders on a bike

Not all bicycle models are equipped with fenders. However, after riding in the rain or mud, the owner of the bike begins to seriously think about their need. In the article below we will talk about the types of wings, their advantages and disadvantages, installation methods.

Installing mudguards on a mountain bike

The exact installation sequence will depend on the design. Typically, manufacturers provide visual instructions that can give you a general idea of the location of elements and fasteners. In the material, we will talk about two installation methods: quick (using a sleeve and a clamp), and also more reliable (screwing the plate into special holes on the frame).

Fast (universal) installation option

This method involves fixing the front wing with a strut. The protective element itself consists of two parts and is docked with a metal plate. The long part of the wing is worn on the bottom, the shorter part on the top. The workpiece is ready. Next, you need to prepare the fastener and install:

  • Includes screw, washer and two pieces of spacer. A washer is put on the screw, after which it is passed from the underside of the metal plate.
  • The first part of the spacer is put on top of the screw without a nut, then the second part (with a nut) is slightly screwed on.
  • Now you need to look under the crown of the fork. There is a hole in which the spacer is inserted. After placing it, start tightening the screw with a screwdriver. Parts of the fastening element will begin to move apart, which will ensure that the wing is retained in the cavity. If the spacer is not wide enough, use the included pad. If it is absent, you can independently cut the rubber strip from the old camera.

Next, let’s take a look at how to install a rear fender with a yoke on a bike:

    Place nuts inside the clamp, connect it to the wing attachment part, tighten the components with screws.

  • Take the wing and place the holder base on it. Fasten it with the screw and washer.
  • Install a threaded pin in the extension mount, dock it with the base screw. Tighten the connection tightly.
  • Loosen the retainer and remove the seat post. Put the clamp on it and press it down with the screws. You need to twist them one by one, pulling each one by several turns.
  • Join the workpiece to the clamp using the appropriate screw.
  • By loosening the individual fasteners, it will be possible to adjust the installed protection in height and angle of inclination. When riding over bumps, the wing may drop spontaneously. This drawback is present in some models, and it will be possible to completely eliminate its appearance only by installing a different design with additional antennae.

    Installation through special holes

    If the bike has holes above the rear and front wheels, then you can purchase fenders mounted on plates. Instructions on how to put the front fender on the bike:

    • Insert the plate into the splash guard.
