How to ride a bike in the rain: 8 tips for beginners
Sooner or later, everyone will face this problem. To ride your bike in the rain and stay dry, and if you’re lucky, also clean, read Bike tipsMe.
To ride comfortably in wet weather instead of disgusting, you need to equip your bike with full-size bike fenders. The wider and longer they are, the less water will get on you.
Important to know: Not all bikes can be fitted with bicycle mudguards. And some do not want to install them at all. Like, it’s not aesthetically pleasing. It’s up to you to choose: feel dry and comfortable, or look beautiful, but ride with wet toes and feet. And the first will begin to rub over time, the second will begin to freeze. All this will cause terrible discomfort.
And your beautiful appearance will also quickly get dirty with a fountain of water, constantly pouring you from under the wheels of the bike.
Let’s pay special attention to group trips. On a rainy day like this, you should not appear without wings. this is one of the unspoken rules of cyclists. Dirty splashes escaping from under the wheels can reach a rider moving from behind up to 10 meters away. He won’t be delighted for sure.
Correct cycling gear
There are cyclists who like rain or snow. they don’t care about anything: they feel comfortable in any, even the wettest, underwear. If you are not like that, wear suitable cycling equipment. For instance:
- waterproof vest or jacket with a hood;
- polypropylene thermal underwear;
- woolen socks will not hurt;
- on shoes. on top of it special neoprene bicycle shoe covers;
- for hand protection. waterproof and windproof gloves.
Otherwise, you will get wet, freeze, and immediately catch a cold.
Remember, while cycling, your body sweats a lot. Therefore, clothes should be dry not only outside, but also inside. The most suitable for this task are modern materials such as Gore-Tex.
There is no money for such technology. just make sure that your clothes are well ventilated.
To avoid getting your shoes wet, wear special neoprene bicycle shoe covers
We wrote here about why you need to wear cycling goggles. To this we just add that the accessory will additionally protect your eyes from splashes and raindrops. Important: insert transparent or maximum yellow lenses. Others will let in too little light. This will make road obstacles difficult for you to see.
In the rain, it becomes especially slippery: drops of gasoline, oil, fuel oil. all this rises to the surface and the asphalt turns into a continuous oil puddle, slipping and falling on which is easier than a steamed turnip. A few tips:
- See a rainbow spot. go around it.
- Do not brake too much.
- We also do not recommend turning at intersections at high speed.
- Road markings become particularly slippery when it rains. And with it. fallen leaves and metal surfaces. Drive around them.
- Puddles. Even in the most harmless puddle, a giant pit can be hidden (it’s not for us to tell you what “Ukrainian asphalt” is). So stay as far away from puddles as possible.
In wet weather, your brakes become less effective and perform worse. The reason is that when braking, the wheel needs to make a full revolution, during this period the pads completely remove water and sand from the braking surface. And only then they begin to fully fulfill their main function.
As a result, you have a longer braking distance. Remember this. Especially when there is a car, cyclist or pedestrian nearby. Brake in advance.
One more detail. For a month of “wet” races, the brake pads can be completely worn out, because water sand is the easiest way to “kill” them.
Have to ride your bike in the rain. be prepared for the fact that you will soon have to spend money on new brake pads.
The best option is to apply a thicker chain lubricant. Better to have a dirty than a rusty chain. Because the first chain can always be cleaned (find out how to do it right here). But with rusty there is almost nothing to do.
Rusty chain is every cyclist’s nightmare
You should always be visible on the road. Heavy rain and blinding headlights of cars in the “oncoming” are a factor preventing this. How to deal with this? A beautiful and bright bicycle uniform will not help. The best option is a powerful bike light.
Don’t want to turn your expensive sports road bike into junk? Then get a second bike. for riding in tough weather.

How to learn to ride a bike for adults and children?
Before learning to ride a bike, it is recommended to be patient. Some people feel comfortable driving a two-wheel drive from day one, but not everyone is so lucky. The main thing is not to overwork, the muscles should not be in constant tension, it is important to rest after each ride. In case of a fall, the knees and elbows must be protected with special pads, and the head. with a helmet.
Methodology for teaching children
For children under three years old, there are special models of bicycles without pedals. This modification allows you to quickly learn how to keep balance and train your legs. If a child rides a tricycle, then at the age of 4. 7 years, you should start learning to ride a two-wheeled analogue. For convenience, you can remove the pedals and fully lower the seat. So with the help of adults, the child will learn how to maintain balance and use the brakes.
To learn how to ride a bike was easier for a child, every day the training time should be increased. On the first day, it should be 30 minutes, on the second. 40, etc.
- During the learning process, the child must be under constant supervision, you must not be allowed to hunch over and breathe through the mouth.
- Workouts should not start after eating, it is important that at least two hours pass.
- If the child sweats during the ride, you need to wear a dry T-shirt, and in sunny weather, the head should be covered.
- It is not recommended to neglect the speed limits and the norms of the distance traveled on the bike. At the age of 12-13 a child can drive no more than 15 km per day at a speed of 10 km / h, at the age of 14-15. 15 km and 20 km / h, respectively.
Adult learning method
In an adult, the muscles are formed, so it is easier to learn how to maintain balance. However, fear of falling gets in the way, adult movements are constrained and learning is difficult. Before starting a workout, you need to lower the seat to a minimum and learn to keep balance using the same method as children learn. The bike is placed on a flat surface and maneuvers are practiced with the help of friends. After some success, you can try to slide down a small slide, if the turns are mastered, then the pedals and the seat are installed in place.
To make it easier to learn to ride a bike, the video will help explain some of the details of the workout. In the early stages, you should remember the following rules:
- in turns, you cannot continue to pedal, since the turning radius becomes larger with increasing speed, this can provoke panic and fall;
- the handlebar must always be turned in the direction of the inclination of the bike when entering a turn.
In order to learn how to ride a bicycle for a teenager in a short time, it is recommended not to overextend the muscles, but to increase the training time gradually. Every day you need to drive no more than 1 km, after a week the distance can be increased. After the first successes, for the further development of skills, it is enough to cover a distance of 10 km in 30 minutes. The distance can be increased over time. When studying, keep in mind the following:
- movement should be free, without tension in the muscles;
- you need to look directly at 5. 10 meters;
- knees and feet are always parallel to the frame;
- the rotation of medals is carried out without jerks;
- braking is always confident, but smooth.
Learning to skate without hands
Finally, the movements have been worked out and I want to move on. Those who love to improve can learn to ride without hands. For these purposes, you should choose an unpopulated area with an even surface. Before you can learn to ride a bike without hands, you need to master riding with one hand. Constant practice will help to achieve the result, and when everything works out, then you can try to let go of both hands. Remember that the stability of the bike depends on the speed: the higher the speed, the easier it is to balance.
How to ride a bike properly. How to learn to ride a bike
In childhood, not everyone was cut through the surrounding yards on bicycles. Many, having become respectable adults, have not learned to ride a bike. No problem! It is enough to devote an hour or two a day to training, and already on the third day you can confidently ride. Particularly fortunate newbies are cycling from day one. In short, the science of learning to ride a bike is not as difficult as it sounds. The main thing is to overcome psychological complexes and fears. The rest is a matter of skill.
Simple exercises to start
In order to ride a bike, you need to keep balance and pedal. But don’t get on your new bike right away. Most likely, in this case, you cannot avoid falling off the bike. Better to get used to the bike and get a feel for it. To do this, you need to go to the city park (to its deserted alleys) or out of the city to fairly flat paths. Workouts should start with simple exercises:
- First you need to learn how to ride a bike. all you need to do is walk to one side of it with your right hand on the handlebars. It is necessary to work out how the bicycle reacts to the turns of the arms, to the tilt of the body. After a while, you need to repeat the same with the left hand.
- The next day, you can try riding a bicycle like a scooter. To do this, we stand, for example, to the left of the bike, put our right foot on the pedal, hold the handlebars with our hands and press against the frame. It remains to push off with your left foot and ride, keeping your balance. You don’t need to try to go fast. it is easier to hold the bike at high speed, but you can also fall faster. But with slow control, you can learn to feel the bike better. It is also necessary to work out the turns, at which it is important to control the tilt of the body.
- On the third day, you can start by repeating the scooter ride. And then get on the bike for real. It is better to start by starting from the curb. Since the bike will immediately start to move, you will only have to work out the acquired skills. by tilting the body to maintain balance and slightly pedaling for speed.
It’s great if someone from your friends or family can help you learn how to ride a bike. over, in this case, you need not so much real physical help (although sometimes you may need to hold the bike), as psychological support.
Cornering and braking
Learning to balance is not all. It is also important to work out:
- smooth ride without wobbling. this is useful when driving a bike on the road;
- cornering along a given trajectory. when turning, the steering wheel must be directed in the same direction as the bike is traveling;
- riding from small towns and entering them, because small ups and downs are found both in the city and on rough terrain. It is important not to let go of the pedals at this time;
- braking with two wheels is much more effective than with the rear wheel alone, that is, in an emergency you can stop much faster.
All these exercises can only be worked out in one way. through practice. Naturally, the more you ride and train, the more confident you feel on the bike.
Important tips for those learning to ride a bike
Before getting on the bike, you need to clearly remember a few important points:
- The main control of the bike is carried out by tilting the bodies. That is, you do not need to turn the steering wheel much at all, especially it is fraught with falls when cornering.
- You cannot look at the steering wheel, front wheel or at the asphalt immediately in front of it. your gaze should be directed 5-10 meters ahead.
- Knees and feet should be parallel to the bike frame.
- You do not need to take your legs off the pedals, they should be twisted smoothly, avoiding jerks.
- You don’t have to grip the handlebars. it’s best to hold it loosely and confidently.
- Cycling stability will be higher at higher speeds. But you need to work out and ride at low speeds.
- Brake is best done smoothly but confidently.
Sometimes it’s scary to start. But once you take the first steps, cycling becomes addictive. Train and try. everything will work out!
A short video review of cycling lessons: The basics of cycling techniques for beginners
Knowing how to ride a bike and doing it right are two different things. Often, beginners are not aware of this, becoming covered with bumps, abrasions and bruises for many years. Imagine their surprise when it turns out that the technique of cycling has long been studied and described by their predecessors and colleagues.
Rider position and frame dimensions
When choosing a frame, it is important to select a steering wheel in shape and position. For professional road riding, choose a handlebar curved like a ram’s horns. Preference for sports driving is given not so much to speed as to aerodynamics.
For cross-country, MTV and rough terrain, choose a straight steering wheel, since the emphasis is on both legs and arms. On top of that, the bike is easier to handle with a straight bar. Particular attention is paid to the grip. they choose grips with a diameter that allows you to completely cover the steering wheel. Grips that are too thick will not work. Also, the steering wheel is chosen in width. Hands should be comfortable. The wrong choice can provoke tunnel syndrome and quick fatigue.
The rule of thumb when setting up a saddle is comfort. In the sport version, the saddle must be adjusted so that the leg can be fully extended. This is done so that all muscles take part in pedaling.
For walking, a saddle height that provides incomplete extension is suitable. This way the rider will feel less tired and feel more comfortable at any riding speed. He can easily get off the bike if needed. Ideal for choppers, walkers and other models that require close proximity to the road.
To choose the size of the frame and the height of the saddle, use the “heel rule”: with a comfortable position on the saddle, the rider should rest, without bending or stretching the leg, with the heel against the pedal.
Correct bike setup
A significant part of the bike’s parameters require regular checks. It is recommended to measure the pressure in the wheels before riding the bike. It is worth changing the pressure, depending on the parameters of the track and the distance, even if the cyclist always uses the same tires.
When driving on smooth asphalt, the wheels are usually inflated to near maximum, without swelling to avoid rapid wheel wear. If driving over rough terrain, it is better to use medium pump.
In this case, the deflection of the wheels should be visible and depict a “snail”.
Adjusting your shock absorbers regularly is another important rule. Descending from the mountains requires tight tuning of the shock absorbing components so as not to roll over. But it is better to drive the bike on the asphalt with locked shock absorbers to avoid energy waste.
Correct pedaling technique
The effect of riding and the recommended techniques depend on how much pressure and cadence you have to pedal. The term “cadence” refers to the frequency of their rotation. The basics of pedaling follow a few rules:
- Cadence stability. a guarantee of pleasant sensations and long riding.
- You can actually catch the perfect cadence in about ten trips.
- It is not recommended to reduce the speed (for example, if the inclination has changed), as well as accelerate on descents.
- Correct pedaling is pedaling. Some beginners choose to “stomp”, but this is the wrong choice, since the load should be uniform in all positions, and not just on a comfortable quarter circle.
- If the cyclist experiences any discomfort, it is recommended to slow down or stop to avoid damaging muscles, joints or tendons.
There is a mechanism called “clipless pedals”. It allows you to provide mechanical fixation of the cyclist’s feet on the pedals, thanks to the special design and shoes.
Full contact allows the muscles to be used as much as possible, but the movement of the feet is blocked, so the first rides with this equipment are dangerous, especially if the cyclist chooses public roads as a training field.
Basic cycling tips
Any distance requires adherence to several useful recommendations:
- Some obstacles can be avoided, it is better to learn how to use all the features of the shock absorbers.
- You need to learn how to switch speeds, depending on the situation;
- The cyclist must regularly monitor the state of his body;
- If you learn to fall correctly and use a helmet, there will be much less injuries;
- You need to move around the city carefully and carefully, since a cyclist is a full-fledged road user, whose mistakes can entail danger to other drivers and pedestrians.
Having mastered the skills of proper riding, the rider will not only protect his body and bike from various damages, but will also be able to learn how to do tricks on the bike. Any distance will become subject to him, which means that there will be more experience for mastering new opportunities.
Correct cycling technique
After the first question of a novice cyclist about how to ride a bike in general, not everyone asks about how to ride a bike correctly. However, over the years and bumps, the understanding will come that your skills should be improved. Let’s take a look at the basic things about cycling. How to position and how to pedal, how to drive bumps and what not to do under any circumstances.
Note that, first of all, we are always talking about security. The speed and efficiency of efforts are the lot of sports training, amateurs and beginners should always think about their health and the serviceability of their bike.
Let’s start by choosing and setting up a bike. The size and combination of parts determines how the body, arms and legs of the bicycle are located. Landing is the base of how a person drives. If sitting is uncomfortable, no amount of skills and training will help, but real health problems will arise. knees, back and arms.
Frame dimensions and position
There is a lot of talk about the selection of a frame by height, and we must not forget that simply “taking a ride” someone else’s bike can hammer your knees in a day or walk with a sore back for several months. Choosing the right frame and using the right fit when driving on the road.
Pay particular attention to the steering wheel. Allocate a sporty fit with low handlebars in the style of “ram’s horns”. it is for professionals and driving on the highway. The main thing in a sporty landing is aerodynamics, everything is sacrificed for speed.
Standard fit with both legs and arms. standard for MTB, XC and rough terrain. straight handlebars allow for safe handling. The main thing here is the grip. the grips should be of such a diameter that the handlebars are completely covered and not too thick. Separately, the steering wheel is chosen in width. it should be convenient for the hands when resting on them. otherwise the muscles of the arms and shoulders will quickly get tired and there may even be a tunnel syndrome, which many people sitting at the computer suffer from.
Everyone sets up the saddle as comfortable, but there are two main ways to get on the bike. The first, sporty, looks like “standard and higher”. the leg should be straightened and all muscles should be involved in pedaling. The second is for walking, when the leg is not fully extended, and you can easily get off the bike. This fit allows you to feel comfortable at any speed and in any conditions, usually typical of choppers and walking models in which the rider is close to the road.
Defining a “standard” is not difficult. This is usually done using the heel rule. Sitting comfortably on the seat, the cyclist should rest on the pedal with his heel, do not stretch or bend the leg.
Some bike parameters require constant checking, rather than a one-time adjustment for a long time.
As much as you would like to “sit down and ride”, the first thing you need to do before riding a bike is to check the pressure in the wheels. Depending on the intensity of skiing and, most importantly, the upcoming track, even on identical tires, the pressure should be changed.
- Smooth asphalt. wheels can be pumped to maximum, but not pumped. Over-pumped wheels wear out quickly and can burst at the most inopportune moment;
- Rough terrain. medium pumping, the wheels should visibly bend and “portray a snail”.
Separately, it is worth noting the shock absorber settings, usually on a mountain bike this is only the front one. On asphalt, the fork can be locked to save energy; when descending a mountain, make it harder so as not to roll over.
In addition, before a ride, you should always check the performance of all bicycle components. brakes and switches.
The basis of proper road driving is pedaling. The main parameter when driving is cadence. this is the cadence. Depending on it and on the load, the effect of riding and the recommended techniques change.
- The cadence must be stable. the guarantee of a long and pleasant ride is a stable load. It is both good for the body and effective;
- It is advisable to know the ideal cadence. it is easy to catch it in practice, studying the state of the body for about 10 trips;
- Do not slow down your cadence when changing incline. including accelerating downhill. Fortunately, most modern bicycles are equipped with speeds;
- The pedals must be rotated, not trampled. That is, the load should be in all positions, not just on the “comfortable” quarter of the circle;
- For any discomfort in the body, it is better to slow down or stop altogether.
The point of particular danger is the first trips with the contact pedals, especially on public roads. The clip-on pedals maximize the use of muscle forces, but also block the movement of the feet. Therefore, contact pedals are a topic for a separate discussion.
The cycling technique is supported by a few basic tips:
- Make full use of the shock absorbers’ capabilities. not all obstacles need to be avoided;
- Do not forget about gear shifting;
- Monitor the state of the body;
- Brake gradually: stop pedaling in advance, without blocking the wheels, gently press the brake levers to slow down;
- To be able to fall. no matter how sad, everyone has to fall, and it is worth being able to. at least group up and wear a helmet;
- Move very carefully around the city. you need to follow the road, as the cyclist becomes a full-fledged participant in the road traffic, and must follow the rules of driving on public roads.
Proper cycling is a combination of several things. The first factor is the configuration of the bike. the correct fit and the size of the frame. the lion’s share of comfort depends on them. Further, for each track, you should select your own shock absorber settings and wheel pressure. And the third important component is riding technique. this is pedaling, riding style, and skills to overcome obstacles and even the ability to fall. In the sum of these three factors, proper riding is born, which brings great pleasure from riding a bike.
How to ride a bike properly
The first step is to adjust the position of the saddle. We set the height so that in the lowest position of the pedal the leg is straightened, but not completely, the knee should not be fully extended. Be careful not to push the seatpost too far out of the frame. there is a special height limit mark on it.
Many people still pump up their bicycle tires “by touch”. squeezed with their fingers, if it does not bend much, then it is normal. In vain! This pressure in the tire is clearly not enough. Take a closer look. on the sidewall of the tire you will probably find the numbers of the required pressure, for example, “40-65 psi / 2.8-4.5 bar”. Yes, yes, a bicycle tire is inflated to a pressure much higher than a car tire, do not be surprised. Connect a car compressor with a pressure gauge and try to inflate the tires to the specified pressure. be amazed at how much easier it becomes to pedal! If you often ride on the ground, then you can pump up to the lower limit, for better shock absorption, if on smooth asphalt, then to the upper limit, to reduce rolling resistance, this will save your strength. Consider your weight as well: the larger the rider, the higher the pressure.
Speaking of the tires themselves. As a rule, budget bikes are equipped with the same budget tires. They do not hold very well on the ground, and they do not roll well on the asphalt. If you want to increase your average or maximum riding speed, the first step is to change your tires to more suitable for the type of surface. Choose trusted brands. Maxxis, Schwalbe, Kenda, or Continental or Michelin known to any motorist. This is not an essential purchase, but you can plan for yourself such a gift for some achievement. for example, 30 kilometers traveled at a time, or the first 500 km on the odometer of a bicycle computer.
A bicycle is not a car with a manual transmission; many people manage to ride it without changing gears at all. Despite the fact that there are already more than 20 of them, many prefer not to use them once again, and “break” uphill on the same stars as from the mountain. In vain! I highly recommend clicking them more often. Firstly, the sprockets on the rear wheel wear out more evenly, which means they will have to be changed later. Secondly, by properly adjusting the load, you are less tired. Most importantly, the health of your knees depends on your cadence (called cadence). Doctors say that it is less harmful for the joints to pedal faster, but with less stress, than to “break”, already standing up on the pedals from effort. The optimal cadence is 80-100 rpm, but from habit it is difficult to maintain such a frequency, so it is better to adhere to a simple rule. choose such a gear so that you can pedal at the desired speed with little effort. And discard the myth that muscles will only swing under load, with “power” riding. the health of the knee joints is more important!
How to change gears correctly?
We do this only in motion, and at the very moment of switching the pedals need to be turned, but without effort. With a little practice, this will be almost instantaneous and your bike will thank you. the rear derailleur and chain will last much longer. If the gears shift with difficulty, the inclusion is indistinct, or every other time. this means that the switch cable is stretched or the settings are out of order, adjust the mechanism yourself or in the workshop, it is not difficult.
Another rule concerns the choice of combinations of front and rear sprockets. Avoid positions where the chain runs “obliquely”, for example, when the small chainring at the front and small at the rear, or, conversely, the large chainring at the front and rear. The small chainring is only used for difficult terrain (uphill or on sand, for example), the large chainring is used for high-speed driving in a straight line or downhill. Turn them on in advance, before going up (down). Under normal conditions, the front center sprocket is engaged, and all reverse gears can be used with it, except for the extreme ones. Failure to comply with these combinations will lead to a quick stretching of the chain (it works with a skew) or the chain jumping off the sprocket, in which case it can jam.
How to forget how to ride a bike. How to forget how to ride a bike?
If you start looking for information on this subject, you will find many statements that if a person learned to swim, walk or ride a bike, they will never forget how to do it.
Most of us learned to ride a bike as a child. But as we get older, we gradually stop skating and remove our two-pedal friend to gather dust in some far corner. And many years later, trying to get behind the wheel of a bicycle again, it turns out that we control it as confidently as before.
As it turns out, our memories are stored in different areas of our brain. For example, long-term memory is divided into two types: declarative and procedural. Declarative memory is divided into: episodic. memories of the first kiss or the first day at school; and semantic. factual knowledge (for example, how to know the capital of France or how much is two plus two)
However, skills such as playing an instrument or riding a bicycle are reserved specifically for procedural memory.
However, scientists still don’t know why the contents of procedural memory are not as easily forgotten as declarative ones. According to one hypothesis, in regions where movement patterns are “fixed”, fewer new nerve cells may form in adults. Without this neurogenesis or continuous remodeling. the likelihood of these memories being erased. is minimal.
However, we do know that simple activities that we learn, even in the distant past, usually persist for the rest of our lives, such as cycling.
But then Destin Sandlin says: “I am the only one in the world who has forgotten how to ride a bike!”
Thanks to his perseverance and curiosity, Destin managed to learn how to ride the “wrong” bike. Later, he offered to do this to his six-year-old son, who already knew how to ride an ordinary children’s bike. What is important. the son retrained much faster than his father.
As Sandlin himself says, he felt the only person on the planet who, as a result of the experiment with the “wrong” bike, forgot how to ride a regular bike. So, he argues, you can forget how to ride a bike!
These conclusions about the characteristics of the human brain, made on the basis of a scientific experiment, have probably been known for a long time to scientists specializing in brain activity; but they should be “pulled” out of the video and voiced to clearly define the results of the experiment:
1 Knowing a process does not always mean understanding it. The algorithm associated with cycling is not as simple as it seems. Your brain stores and remembers such parts of it: pushing force on the pedals, body tilt, steering wheel holding, gyroscopic wheel precession. If you change at least one part of this algorithm, it breaks the whole.
2 Children’s brains are more neuroplastic than adults and are easier to retrain.
I think that the experiment with a bicycle gives us an amazing hint: in order to get rid of a bad habit, you need to “break” your brain, or rather, to reconfigure it to a different, but useful, algorithm.
And I will also remind you about why the bike does not fall and which direction the bike will go if you pull the rope.
101: How To Ride A Bicycle (Better)
It doesn’t matter if you are a child or an adult; the basics are the same. If you’ve read these words, I’m sure I won’t have to explain to you why you need to ride a bike, because you already know that it is one of the best things in life! It’s never too late to start cycling.
In this guide, I will outline the basics of teaching kids to ride a bike and adults to get started. Also below I will teach you how best to drive on roads or forest trails, how to brake, change gears, etc.
So let’s get down to learning about cycling. This manual is 1500 words long, so it will take you 3-5 minutes.
Find a safe place to launch
Safe place to start. park or small footpath. I suggest you start rolling on the low grass, it’s a little harder to get started, but if you fall it won’t hurt. A narrow road is also a good spot because there is a chance that you will fall on the grass.
Wear comfortable clothes.
Try closed toe shoes such as joggers.
You should not wear pants that are very wide or loose. as they can also stick to your front derailleur. If you have no other options, always tuck them into your socks.!
Put on your helmet (ALWAYS!)
Let’s keep it simple. this is rule number one! Especially when you are just starting to learn to ride a bike. You should always wear a helmet and you should make sure that your child is wearing a helmet, especially while learning.
The helmet is critical because your head is. this is your condition! Everything is possible with the head, but without the head. nothing! Take care of your head, because I know people who did not wear helmets and cannot walk anymore due to accidents.
How do you ride your bike?
Have you ever felt nervous about not doing something for a long time? Do you remember how to do it? Will you look stupid? Along the way, someone will definitely tell you not to worry, because you will definitely remember and continue where you left off. They may even say, “It’s like riding a bike!”
If you are a child, this may not give you much confidence, as cycling can seem like a monumental task if you have never removed your training wheels, but if you know how to ride a bike, you can understand the meaning of this statement. When you learn to ride a bike, your body won’t forget about it.
Luckily for kids, learning to ride a bike is much easier when you’re young. If you wait until you are an adult to learn to ride a bike, it will be much more difficult to master the necessary skills.
Most children can start learning to ride a bike between the ages of three and six, and many children start out by riding a bike with learning wheels. Training wheels protrude from each side of the rear wheel to prevent the bike from falling while riding.
After all, you need to remove the training wheels and learn to ride on only two wheels. The first and most important step. master one skill that your training wheels have helped all along: balance.
For some children, mastering balance means having a friend or family member run beside you with one hand on the back of the bike until you have enough momentum to balance yourself on the two moving wheels. However, cycling experts recommend a slightly different an approach.
With your bike helmet on, which is the most important piece of safety equipment you should always wear when cycling, you should lower the bike seat until you can sit with your feet on the ground. Then find a large, flat, smooth area away from cars and people.
Start by moving the motorcycle forward, using your legs to propel you. Get used to the feel of the bike and learn to balance on it. Since your feet touch the ground easily, there is no fear of falling. As you learn to balance on the bike, start lifting your legs and coasting over longer distances.
If you can balance and coast easily over long distances, turn on cornering and steering. Wide, smooth turns may only require side to side weight transfer. Tight and tight turns will require you to steer in addition to transferring weight.
By the time you are comfortable with cornering and coasting, you will probably know that you are ready to pedal. While coasting, slowly lift your feet to the pedals and begin pedaling forward, gaining speed and momentum. When will you do that, you know what? Do you ride a bike!
Once you have mastered the basics, you will never forget them. Your body’s muscle memory will turn on and help you find the balance you need to ride, even if you haven’t ridden a bike in years! However, just because you have the basics doesn’t mean that you have completed your studies.
There are many other basic cycling skills you need to master, including starting, stopping and obeying the road rules, to be a safe cyclist at all times. Good luck with this initiation rite and creating memories of a lifetime.!
