I got a front wheel from a Xiaomi QiCYCLE bicycle at a ridiculous price. The wheel has physical damage to the rim. apparently caused during transportation. And so it is new, never used. It was difficult to pass by such a spare part, and so I became the owner of a Quixike wheel motor.

From a distance it is almost whole. Only the damaged spokes are visible.

The motor itself is in perfect order, it did not get.

The wheel is almost disassembled. It remains only to deal with the spokes and remove the electric motor.

We unscrew its cover. It can be unscrewed simply by hand, without effort. It may be a little tight at first. because there is a rubber O-ring under the cover. But then everything will go easy.

We disassemble the overrunning clutch mechanism located in the cover. In principle, these three screws could be unscrewed in advance, but it is possible now. Pay attention to the oil seal, which ensures the tightness of the insides of the device.

Look, the screws also have rubber o-rings. Everything is done very reliably, protection from water at the level.

So, the cover is dismantled, and under it is the one-way clutch (idle clutch). It is designed to allow the wheel to rotate freely when driving forward when the motor is not in use. This is an analogue of a bicycle ratchet.

The sleeve consists of an inner part (steel color) and an outer part (black). They rotate freely relative to each other. But on the inside, there are three spring-loaded bronze bushings that abut three small steel cylinders. When the inner part rotates clockwise, the cylinders simply slide and do not resist rotation. But if the rotation goes in the opposite direction, then thanks to the bevels, the cylinders will reliably rest against the outer part of the clutch. The clutch of both parts will become rigid, and rotation will begin.

That is why, if you spin the wheel forward on the bike, then it will rotate freely (no grip). But if you turn it in the opposite direction, you will feel resistance and hear the gears of the reducer hum. Precisely because during reverse rotation there is a clutch with the gear mechanism. This is how the overrunning clutch works.

We disassemble the mechanism further. It is necessary to keep the shaft from turning.

Three satellite gears. Notice there are alignment marks on the gears (white stripes). We take out the motor from the case.

We remove the gears, in front of us is the carrier. the last part of the gearbox. And the sun gear in the center.

As you can see, the gearbox is very compact and lightweight. Plus, thanks to the plastic gears, it’s also quiet.

And here is the motor housing. In it, 6 installed magnets are visible on the bottom. They are needed to measure speed. And you can still see the closed shaft bearing.

Unscrew the rest of the screws holding the halves of the motor housing together. By the way, there is a double rubber seal on the shaft. And on top of the side, a white detail is the holder of the Hall sensor, which, thanks to the magnets in the case (previous photo), registers the rotation of the wheel and determines the speed.

The engine itself is finally visible inside. There are 10 magnets on the rotor. Outside, on the stator, there are 12 coils and 3 Hall sensors. They are needed to determine the position of the rotor. Another sensor is on top. This is the sensor that interacts with the magnets on the bottom of the case to determine the rotational speed.

And this little motor, which fits in the hand, pulls both the bike and the rider.

As soon as the wheels of the scooter are set in motion, the built-in reel begins to rotate together with the wheel, while the axle (and with it the installed magnet) remains stationary. If we do not immerse ourselves too much in the laws of physics, then we get the following picture: the coil spins around a stationary magnet, as a result of which an electric current is generated that flows to the LED bulbs and they begin to burn.

If one or some of the light bulbs on one wheel stop burning (there is at least one lit light bulb), then in this case either the LED light bulb (bulbs) itself has burned out, or the contact between the coil and the LED (LEDs) has disappeared. In any of these cases, a complete replacement of the wheel is required, since both the LEDs and the coil are “sealed” inside the wheel in production, you cannot pull them out without damaging the wheel.

If, however, all the bulbs in the wheel stopped burning at once, then, with a high probability, the problem is in the absence of current supplied to the lamps. This, in turn, may be for the following reasons:

Tighten the wheel harder with hex keys, it is possible that during the operation of the scooter the fastening is loose and the magnetic sleeve rotates together with the wheel.
