Some of the outer small sprockets can be removed immediately when removing the cassette. They should be cleaned and inspected for wear. The same is done with the main sprockets: it is determined how much they are worn out and which ones are the most.
Number of stars
The cassettes are selected by the number of stars. Older bike cassettes mostly have seven stars, nowadays 8/10/11 and even 12 star cassettes are installed on road and mountain bikes.
You can determine the number of stars by marking, for example, 11-36 T, 10 speed indicates the number of teeth (1 small, 36 large) and 10 stars.

After you squeeze out the pin, the chain will open independently, remove it from the bike and do the necessary operations. Be sure to make sure that the squeezed pin is not lost. If it is necessary to shorten the chain, remove the required number of links using a chain breaker. In the event that it is necessary to increase its length, insert the links. Later, assemble the chain loosely on the frame, insert the rear wheel into the connectors, and pull the chain over the sprockets, then secure the wheel with nuts. After pedaling several times, make sure that the mechanism works without effort and does not create unnecessary noise.

Using a screwdriver, bend the locking plate and remove it with pliers, after which the chain will disconnect. When assembling the rear hub, it should be considered that the right and left ends of the axle are different. The right one is fixed to the axle by means of a lock nut, after which it is never removed from it. Consequently, all adjustments are made with the left cone. Put a new, thick grease in the bushing housing and in the bearing cups on both sides, then, with the support of tweezers, take the balls and press them into it. The lubricant layer must be quite thick so that the balls cannot roll out of the bushing.
On the right side of the rear hub, place a washer over the balls and insert the axle with the right taper. This must be done with caution. Otherwise, you run the risk of losing balls, which can fall out of the bearing cup from the opposite side.
Screw the left cone onto the axle, but under no circumstances tighten it. Later, put on the washers and screw on the lock nut.
Now you need to adjust the bearings. To do this, ensure that the axle is stationary. Call in an assistant who will help you keep the right cone from turning while you adjust the left cone. In the absence of an assistant, clamp the lock nut of the right cone in a vice, but do it carefully so as not to deform the nut and bushing.
With the help of a cone wrench, turn the left cone until it stops, but without tightening it, but releasing it by 45 degrees. Later, while holding the cone with the wrench, tighten the lock nut. During this time, the hub axis must remain static.
