Replacing the handlebars on a motorcycle is an elementary process if you know which side to approach the issue. True, sometimes beginners have problems with this simple procedure. In fact, everything is easier than it seems.

So, you have decided on the diameter of the motorcycle handlebars, you bought new handles (grips). Well, or decided to replace the steering wheel itself, and you need to rearrange the steering handles on it. First you need to remove them.

There are usually no problems with the right handle. Disassemble the remote control and remove the handle along with it, having previously disconnected the throttle cable (or cables, if you have several of them). Nothing complicated. But with the left handle, it happens, there are incidents. The fact is that it is often planted on glue so that it does not scroll. It happens, of course, that the weights of the steering wheel are screwed into the steering wheel itself and thus hold the handles, but this is rare. So if you need to remove the handle from the steering wheel without damaging it, there are several ways.

Method one. After unscrewing the left bracket and pushing it towards the center of the steering wheel to give yourself free space, try to pick up something sharp and thin on the handle from the inside. A tool like an awl is ideal. The inner base of the handle is usually rubber, so working carefully will not damage anything. Pick up the edge of the handle and spray the inside of the WD-40. This will provide good glide and the WD-40 will have some corrosive effect on the adhesive. Repeat the procedure several times, the handle should come off.

You can’t crawl deep under the handle, and it still sits tightly? Method number two. try hooking it up as described above and tucking plastic cable ties inside. Of course, pre-splashing the same WD-40 under the handle. The fact is that plastic slides much better on the steel surface of the steering wheel than rubber. You need to immerse the pen in hot water, then the glue underneath will take on the “ Honor ” fluid, and the pen can be easily pulled off. Tilt the motorcycle to the left (or carefully place it on the arches, if any), and immerse the end of the handlebar with the handle in the water. After three minutes, the handle will snap off easily.

One of the above methods will probably work. When you put the handles in place, it is advisable to put the left handle on rubber glue so that it does not scroll. You don’t need superglue. what if you have to remove the pen again? The sealant is unlikely to glue it firmly enough. So rubber / boot glue will be just right.

It also happens that the throttle stick sits too tightly on the steering wheel, and does not come back after you release it. If the steering wheel is painted, then it makes sense to clean it to the metal under the seat of the handle and polish it with the finest sandpaper, and then with goy paste. Then apply a lubricant to the place where the handle will sit (ordinary grease will do; silicone-based lubricants are undesirable). This will fix the problem. If the steering wheel is chrome-plated, and the problem is urgent, then it will be enough to do the above procedure with lubrication.
