At the same time, it is very good if it is equipped with gear shifting devices that allow you to move at a much higher speed and more effectively use the efforts of our legs with you. It is also advisable to equip the bike with a bell, this will greatly facilitate interaction with pedestrians.
Any cycling trip should be started by examining its appearance. All loose connections must be tightened, the hand brakes must be adjusted so that they do not block the wheels in the unpressed state of the levers, and are securely fixed when pressed. We’ll pump up the tires, if required, but without showing fanaticism in this matter. the tires should flatten slightly under the influence of the rider, while the ride will be softer. But to give way to cars when the advantage is in your interests. And obey, of course, the traffic lights.
Turning to the left is generally prohibited for cyclists, and drivers know about it! So you better not try. At intersections, you need to turn left in two stages, first driving straight through the intersection and then left, after waiting at the corner of the green traffic light. You can also use pedestrian crossings. If you are going to bypass a standing vehicle, show it with your outstretched left hand, skipping, of course, before that everyone traveling on the left. Roundabouts are also best avoided, drive into them only if the traffic is not active and you will not create obstacles, otherwise cross the crossing.
A rather unpleasant thing for a cyclist. trolleybuses and buses. These iron monsters strive to press against the curb. In addition, the speed of a bicycle is approximately equal to the average speed of a trolleybus, therefore, movement with public transport often resembles a leapfrog: a bicycle overtakes a trolleybus at stops, and between them again finds itself behind. In such cases, it is better to slow down and let the trolleybus or bus take off.

Therefore, if you are staying for a long time, take your bike indoors or at least into the patio (if this is possible, of course). If you are going to leave your two-wheeled friend for 20-30 minutes, then you can fasten him by the frame to a lamp post or a metal fence with a steel cable with a lock. Locks can be either conventional, which are locked with a key, or coded. If the cable is long, it is advisable to wrap it around the wheels, at least the front one, because it is easier to remove it. To do this, place your straightened leg on the pedal in the lower position: the foot should lie completely on the pedal, and not touch it only with the toe. If you have to stand on tiptoe to pedal, adjust the saddle height. Be sure to make sure the saddle has zero slope. Only it allows you to correctly distribute the load on all muscle groups and travel long distances.
To understand which parts of the foot the load falls on, it is enough to take off the socks and pay attention to the dirty areas. The heels and above the metatarsal bones will be the darkest. When choosing a speed transmission, pay attention to the cadence. For proper pedaling, it is normal to ride in a low gear with a high pedaling frequency. For an adult, physically developed person, the optimal cadence is not less than 60 and not more than 90 revolutions per minute. You can count them with the help of a bicycle tracker or on your own (the latter, of course, is more difficult, given that a lot of physical activity will already fall on you). When calculating the cadence, it is important to remember that the value of the indicator is influenced by the anatomical features of each person and the state of his health.
Sitting or standing?
This question can be easily answered by anyone who has had time to feel the difference: standing pedaling is much more difficult. When we stand up over the saddle, in the so-called “dancer” technique, our own energy consumption and the wear and tear of the bike increase. The increased pressure can break the bike: the chain breaks, the steering wheel bends, the pedals are deformed. The standing position is used in extreme riding or on long bike cruises to change body position.
During sharp climbs, it is also not at all necessary to rise. Just relax, switch gears as you go, and take proper breathing. With a slight rise, place your hands on the steering horns and try to drive while sitting as long as possible.
