How To Make Willie On A Bike

How to make a wheelie on a bike

Another article is devoted to bike tricks or tricks on MTB (MountainBike). Who knows, they can still be useful to someone, for example, in order to surprise the surrounding people, and at the same time to communicate, there, to meet. And for someone purely for themselves it is pleasant to jump, there, to have some fun.

Bicycle tricks are suitable where there are few walking people and driving cars, for example, some playground is small. It should also be borne in mind that in order to perform tricks, you must have a long experience of cycling, at least one year, when you are already holding on to the bike firmly enough. It’s like a GTA game where the more you ride the bike, the less you fall off it. For example, when performing tricks for at least three years, I have never fallen down, except for isolated cases with minor injuries. Don’t believe me? That’s your business. I also recommend getting a little pumped up, since you will need physical strength to perform many tricks. I also note that all these tricks, which are written about below, have been tried / studied by me personally, so I will not lie. I do not like this business, even if the truth is not passed on to a person for joy. Better a bitter truth than a sweet lie. But let’s not talk about philosophy for now. All the same, we are talking about tricks on a bicycle 🙂 So, let’s get started!

Preparation: The bike should preferably be mountain or semi-mountain. It is imperative (!) With a rear brake on the handle and that it works in full. Wheel rims must be double. In short, the bike must be strong and in good working order, otherwise it can bend at you on the first descent. And be sure to lock the front shock absorber if it works for you.

make, willie, bike

Action: First, choose small stairs, for example, 3-4 steps. Drive up to the stairs while standing, slightly bent your legs for shock absorption, because you will be shaken hard as you descend. Feet should be parallel to each other on the pedals. The speed should be low: 5 km / h will be enough. And be sure (!) Make sure that there are no people below. As soon as you find yourself on the very stairs, tip your body weight back and hold the rear brake so that the descent is not very fast. If you descended without problems, try descending the same ladder a few more times. If everything is ok, look for a ladder with five rungs and do the same method with it. Then try a ladder with six rungs and so on. It is advisable to practice more on small stairs. I do not advise you to go straight to the high stairs, because just a mistake will not seem like a little. Ladders do not forgive mistakes 🙂 It is better to ride a hundred times on small stairs than to fall once on a large.

“No hands”

Preparation: You can choose any bike, but always with large wheels and not very old to be. Ideally, it is better to choose a road bike, it is just the same with large wheels. A smooth road is also welcome! And if the bike has speeds, we set almost the maximum speed, for example, if there are 3 speeds on the left, and 7 on the right, then we leave it as it is on the left, and set 6 or 5 on the right.

Action: Riding without hands is performed at speed, and the higher the speed, the less likely it is to fall. The minimum is 10 km / h. Go and try to let go of the steering wheel, just do not take your hands far away. And just a little, if you begin to dodge to the side, immediately grab the steering wheel back. In this case, as in any other attempt to perform a trick, the main thing is practice. It will be a little scary for a start, but then you will get used to it. And all accidental side turns can be adjusted with your knees.

Willie (Wheelie)

Willie is when you pull out the front wheel on a bike, as if you get up on a goat, only at the same time you also go. In other words, Willie. riding on the rear wheel.

Preparation: For this you need to be physically fit. The bike should be fast. We set the speed to average: let’s say, if there are 3 of them on the left, we put it on 2, and on the right, if there are 7, we set it on 3 or 4. It is important here that it is convenient to pull Willie out. The saddle should be lowered, but not to the very bottom. Although. If you are in the subject of being like a grasshopper, so be it!))) The road is better to be perfectly flat, preferably a little uphill. I also recommend a working rear brake as he will save you if you suddenly start to fall back.

Action: To ride Willie must learn to balance. Pull the steering wheel sharply towards you and press your foot into the pedal. These two steps must be performed simultaneously. It didn’t work. it doesn’t matter. Try again, and again, until you can keep your balance. It is advisable to catch the balance immediately, because if you catch him accelerating, Willie will be short-lived. And if you are bent to the side, use your knees. Let’s say it is leaning to the left. pull your knee to the right. And by the way, while riding, you should stretch your arms and your backside too, but be sure to stay seated on the saddle. And if you feel that the situation is getting worse every time, no problem. This is normal for everyone. And that means that you are just tired. Relax for an hour or two, then practice some more. In general, it usually takes a month and a half to master Willie, but someone is lucky faster. In this case, the main thing is desire and perseverance.

Tip: In order not to fall back, you should master the skill of jumping off the pedals to the ground when pulling out the wheel. Happened? Wonderful! Now you can master Willie without fear of falling on your back. Only the saddle for this should be raised for now, otherwise you may not have time to jump off your feet and fall on your back.

The most common mistakes when learning to ride Willie

Fear. Confidence is required here. And the more it is, the easier it will be to master riding on the rear wheel. And holding your finger on the brake will give you even more confidence in this matter.

As few jerky movements as possible. Willie should run smoothly and easily.

Do not bend your arms: Willie should only ride with straight arms.

For Willie‘s practice, a dirt bike or street bike is best, while on MTB you can learn it indefinitely.

I also recommend choosing a place where there are fewer people if you are driving on the sidewalk, as their indignation at the factor of driving in the pedestrian zone will make you indignant, as it interferes with Willie’s competent performance. No fear and no worries. And the more self-confidence, the easier it will be to learn to ride the rear wheel.

Bunny Hop

Bunny hop or jumping on / over an obstacle is desirable not only for stunt enthusiasts. It is also useful purely for driving, for example, when you are in a hurry somewhere and you need to jump onto the curb at speed.

Preparation: The strength of the bike matters, as does the strength of the wheels. The weight of the bike should be small, no more than 12 kg. Ideally, the bike should be a trick bike, for example, for street or dirt. However, the Bannik on the mountainside is no exception, if it is not very heavy.

Action: Bunny hop is done at a speed of 10-20 km / h. When approaching an obstacle, we get up and raise the front wheel. And the higher you lift it, the better. Pull the wheel out, and as soon as it is over the curb, push the steering wheel away from you with your hands forward, preferably 45 degrees up, and at the same time bend your legs to let the rear wheel rise too. Did not work out? No problem! The more you practice, the better the trick will be. It is better to practice through a string or choose some small border so that it is not so critical if something goes wrong.

Anyone who is interested in learning tricks on video, I recommend watching this film, in which they teach in detail the basic tricks on Mountain Bike.

The first ten minutes are devoted to somewhat non-obscure subjects. You can jump over them and enjoy learning what you came here for 🙂

How to learn to do bike tricks

Before starting the execution, it is worth fixing the front shock absorber (if any). Check the serviceability of the bike. The best training option is a bike with a working manual rear brake.

Descending stairs asks for cyclist training

Despite the seeming simplicity, this trick is quite difficult and requires a certain level of training. It is better to start training with one step, maximum 2. Otherwise, there is a risk of injury.

You should drive up to the step while standing, while your legs should be slightly bent so that the shock absorption is the best.

The speed must be low, about 5 km / h. Keep your feet parallel to each other on the pedals. After the bike is on the steps, you should lean back and continue downhill, holding the rear brake so that the movement is slow and smoother. If the first time it came out to go down from one step, you should repeat the trick several times. Only after you confidently descend from one step, you can run to workouts 2-3, later 4-5 and so on.

Willie is a rear wheel ride.

Once you have mastered the technique of detaching the front wheel from the asphalt and balancing “in separation”, it is not difficult to cope with it. Having torn the wheel off the asphalt, the rider needs to try to release the brakes a little and try to drive a little.

Willie‘s speed must be extremely low. Yes, and everything must be done extremely carefully, otherwise there is a risk of falling over on your back. For example, you take a wheel off the asphalt, release the brake, drive through 1 / 4–1 / 2 of a wheel turn, press on the brake, keep your balance for a few seconds, release the brake again and drive on, etc.

In this trick, balance is maintained with the knees. You need to catch balance at the moment when the take-off is carried out, otherwise it will not work to drive a lot on one wheel.

During the performance of this trick, in no case should you slide off the saddle, otherwise fall onto your back. Hands should be kept one hundred percent outstretched, straight.

Preparation for training

Before thinking about performing simple tricks, it is worth remembering your riding experience. For newbies, as a rule, performing even ordinary tricks is not always possible.

Higher risk of falls. Before you start learning how to do tricks on a bike, you need to ride confidently. Recommended little experience of riding a bike should not be less than 1 year. It is worth taking care of your own physical form.

It will be useful to pump up. After all, most of the maneuvers require significant effort.

Protective equipment should be purchased before starting training. You need to purchase a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads. After all, falls during training happen quite often. It is better to protect yourself so as not to get serious injuries.

And, of course, you should choose a suitable bike. Ladies’, children’s and tourist bikes are definitely not suitable for performing tricks, let alone training.

In the standard, this should be great BMX. But for a start, you can take an ordinary mountain, semi-mountain bike with a small, reinforced frame and shock-resistant mechanics. Wheels should be wide with double rims. It is better to take quality rubber.

Riding without hands

This trick is considered one of the simplest. It should be taught on a good, flat surface, it is better that your bike has large wheels. Learning to release the steering wheel should be at a speed of at least 10 km / h. Better to accelerate perfectly. it will be easier to maintain balance.

The simplest trick of riding a bike without hands

The balance in this trick is kept with the knees.

Accelerate, release the steering wheel, while balancing your knees and hand position. For the first time, it is better not to move your hands too far away, so that you can quickly take the wheel if you lose your balance. After you can keep your balance at speed, you can also master slow driving without hands. Slow down evenly and release your hands at low speed.

First steps: learning to balance

The training takes place in stages. First, you need to learn to ride “on your feet” and not sitting on the saddle. After all, most of the tricks will have to be done specifically in this position. After this, the leading leg is determined.

Most often, most of the maneuvers will be performed through it. As a rule, for left-handers it is left, for right-handers. right, although it may be the opposite. All turns and jumps must be adapted to be done through the trailing leg.

Next, learn to balance the bike with the brakes applied. At first, you need to try to maintain balance on both wheels. To do this, it is enough to press the brakes at a low speed and try to keep the bike in place for a while.

Next, you can try to keep balance on one wheel.

It’s easier to learn to balance in the back. To do this, you need to master the “tear-off” technique.

To raise the bike “on its hind legs”, it is necessary to jump up the front wheel with the brake clamped. The rider’s body is then thrown back. From the first time, no one succeeds in holding even for a short time “in isolation”. Therefore, it is worth trying to maintain balance for at least one or two seconds.

And only later, evenly, try to increase the balancing time on the wheel.

It’s the same with the front wheel. The technique is identical. You jerk off the rear wheel, the foot is pressed into the brake, the body of the rider is deflected back. It should be done very carefully, otherwise you can fly over the steering wheel. Likewise, as with the rear wheel, first learn to take a “break”, and later increase the balancing time in this position.

Bani-hop (jumping over obstacles)

Mastering this skill will be useful not only for extreme cycling fans.

It often happens that a cyclist is in a hurry to somewhere, and he needs to jump onto a curb or one step. It is better to start training with a low curb, mastering the highest obstacles in the future.

This trick is also performed at low speed. The best option is 10–20 km / h. Approaching the curb, you need to get on your feet and jump up the front wheel.

As soon as it is above the curb, push the steering wheel forward and slightly upward, while bending your legs slightly, so as to give the rear wheel to jump onto the curb.

First Steps in Extreme Cycling: How to Do Basic Cycling Tricks

Learning to do bike tricks is the dream of almost all beginners and even experienced cyclists. For example, riding on one wheel or “without hands”, overcoming obstacles looks extremely beautiful. And everyone loves to admire. And the adrenaline rush from performing such tricks is even more than from ordinary rides on a bike.

But not all cyclists know where to start training. They do not fully understand how to make their first steps in extreme cycling, learn simple tricks.

Bike stunts are extremely impressive

How to learn to ride your rear wheel

Among fans of cycling, video sketches posted on the Internet are very popular, where experienced craftsmen skillfully and effectively move on the rear wheel. This spectacle is quite interesting, causing a special desire in teenagers to learn this riding practice.

Moving on the rear wheel of a bicycle is called Wheelie or surf riding. To learn this, you will need several obligatory lessons that step by step reveal the technique and subtleties of the trick.

Getting ready for the first lessons

Before you start exercising, it is wise to provide protective equipment. a bicycle helmet, elbow pads and knee pads. Unfortunately, practice shows that it is practically impossible to do without falls at the first stage of training.

The second question is the choice of technique. Almost all bicycles are suitable for riding on the rear wheel, but it is best to master this method on models of the mountain class. They have a different design than the other types and are called off-road bikes or mountain bikes in another way. On such models, training will be faster and easier. the stability parameters of such bicycles are much higher. In general, heavy-duty, heavy-duty frames and 26-inch wheels are best suited for rear wheel riding.

The optimal gear selection is the smallest sprocket on the pedals and the middle sprocket on the wheel (1-3). Setting too high a gear will interfere with maintaining balance, too low will not give the necessary acceleration.

For the convenience of mastering the technique, it is better to lower the seat to the minimum height. The operation of the rear hand brake will be important, ideally if it is hydraulic.

Also, do not miss an interesting story about how to learn parkour.

It is best to learn to ride on the rear wheel on a slight rise. the initial stage of front wheel separation will be greatly facilitated.

First meters

So, the first lesson. you need to learn how to properly raise the front wheel.

Moving at an average speed (about 15 kilometers per hour), hold the steering wheel with straight arms. Then, simultaneously with pressing the pedal with your jogging foot, move the center of gravity to the area of the rear wheel and make a small jerk with straight arms.

According to all laws of physics, the front wheel must rise above the road surface. It is clear that all movements and efforts must be strictly proportioned so that the bike does not trivially roll out from under the rider or immediately take its original position.

It is also necessary to maintain balance with body movements, and not by a jerky application of force to the steering wheel. In general, the arms should always be kept straight and tense. Some bending of tense arms is acceptable, but this way they get tired very quickly.

Well helps to maintain balance by manipulating the force of pressing the pedals or briefly applying the hand rear brake

Do not hope that the first successes in lifting the wheel off the ground are almost everything. Only long-term practice, which can take a lot of time, will help to subtly feel the moment of balance and will allow you to keep it for a long time.

Learning to properly control your bike

So, the first successes have been achieved. it is possible to drive a certain distance on the rear wheel. It is now necessary to learn how to control the bike in this position.

Again we recall physics, the rules for the vector expansion of the applied force, in this case. from the center of gravity. Using my knees as a counterweight, you can quickly learn to “steer”. just tilt them in the right direction of the turn. It is clear that sharp movements should be excluded. this will provoke an inevitable fall.

You can adjust the direction of movement with the help of the steering wheel, but in a mirror image. to turn to the right, the steering wheel is turned to the left, and vice versa. With more practice, every cyclist will find the most appropriate way to make turns.

Disputes often arise. it is better to sit in the saddle or stand on the pedals with bent legs. There is no general recipe. both methods have a right to exist, the main thing is that the correct location of the center of gravity above the rear wheel is observed. By the way, this largely depends on the design features of the bike. In any case, with good skills, it will be possible to ride while sitting in the saddle, with an air of complete serenity.

Common beginner mistakes

Oftentimes, fear of falling takes precedence over the desire to learn the trick. One thing to advise is to overcome it. Protective ammunition can play a significant role in this, allowing you to avoid serious injuries. In addition, you can, for a start, practice in the correct dismount on both legs from a bicycle that has reared up and out of control, letting it go “under you”. this will surely add confidence.

“Dropping hands” after the first setbacks. There is no need to hope that success will come instantly. Do not believe those who say they went the first time. Even learning a simple bike ride takes time and patience, let alone such an extreme form of driving. Practice shows that significant gains come after a week of training.

This has already been said. when breaking off the front wheel, you cannot rely only on the jerk of the steering wheel with your hands. this is a dead-end option.

You should not bend over to the steering wheel, even if it seems the safest position. it is impossible to keep the center of gravity in this position.

Sudden movements, acceleration and deceleration are a direct path to a fall. Everything should be smooth and proportionate.

Have you heard about the fingerboard? It is a “micro” skate that looks like a toy. However, the tricks on it are quite difficult and require a lot of patience. details here.

In order to learn to ride on the rear wheel, it is important not to be afraid or panic at the first setbacks. Only persistent training will bring positive results over time. However, the time will pass when you laugh at yourself now, when such a trick will be easily performed reflexively and even the thought that someone cannot master this will seem strange.

The video will clearly show how to raise the front wheel and maintain balance:

Long and unsuccessfully learned to ride on the rear wheel, but to no avail. After reading the article, I realized that I made a bunch of mistakes. And the most important thing is the fear of falling. To the means of protection, I would also add a pad on the back of the back :), well, that’s it, for confidence. Now, taking into account all your mistakes and following the recommendations, it remains only to wait for summer and, forward to study, study and study!

Yes, I can only dream of this! I was just taught to ride a two-wheeled bike for a month, and then riding on the back. By the way, I haven’t tried it. Although I can ride their bike effectively, I can brake effectively, ride without hands, turn in a very narrow gap and bounce when riding with the bike. Now I’ll wait for summer to learn a new trick.

I very quickly learned to ride a bike, and at school I also mastered a motorcycle (the neighbors’ guys helped))) It was hard to ride on the rear wheel. the rides were not large, short, but brought a lot of joy.
