Update as of 06/22/2020
All that was above. complete garbage is no longer relevant! Looking at the price tags of the original quality sealants, the design idea seeks to develop a better and cheaper composition. 🙂
Currently, I have given up liquid soap and toilet paper. Observations over the year have shown that liquid soap can be different, and most often the cheap one after a while turns from a thick mass and splashing, non-foaming water. It is not even diluted with water. Apparently it breaks down into some components. Toilet paper is also not so good. it creates an even layer around the circumference, but the walls of the tire remain open. With wear, when the walls are covered with microcracks, this version of the sealant does not work. The inner foam tube has also been removed. It is filled with sealant and, accordingly, it does not work where it should.
Tubeless wheels on a fat bike. Recipe.
A long time ago, in 2013, I switched to tubeless wheels. Tired of regularly glueing cameras, catching unexpected punctures in unexpected places, so a tubeless tire is a necessary and useful solution. The main punctures occurred due to thin wires, staples. This is a very small inconspicuous hole through which the wheel descends in ten minutes.
There are several methods for installing a tubeless. I chose the so-called tubeless ghetto option. In this version, there is a camera, but it is cut lengthwise and actually serves as a gasket between the rim and the tire.
The first step is to glue the holes from the knitting needles. You can use scotch tape, but this time I tried to seal it with reinforced tape. The main thing is that there are no sharp protrusions so that the camera does not rub against them.
Further along the radius of the rim, a hoop is made of thermal insulation for pipes. On a 26 “wheel, we take a 24” camera. We cut it lengthwise and put it on the rim. Then we put on the tire with one edge, a hoop made of thermal insulation, the second edge of the tire.
Next, it’s up to the magic ingredients. We take some toilet paper and fill it inside.
The main thing is that the paper does not stick out. The camera should be tightly pressed against the tire everywhere.
It turns out something like this. The “skirt” of the camera should run smoothly along the edge of the rim. Correct if necessary.
This is how it all looks assembled. The most interesting thing is to pump it all up. A hoop made of thermal insulation is exactly what is needed for this. it does not allow the sides of the tire to converge to the center and, accordingly, they are better pressed against the camera. Ideally, when you press the tire, it should “puff” through the nipple, in which the spool must first be unscrewed.
If it is not unscrewed, then we unscrew the spool from the nipple to make it easier to pump and then fill in the sealant. Further, in one place, we raise the sides with our hands as much as possible to the edges, then the entire tire is pressed more tightly against the camera and it will be much easier to plant it. Then we take a pump with good performance and put the tire in place. Usually, when the tire sits down, the air stops coming out, everything is completely sealed.
The insulation hoop sits tightly and does not allow air to escape even without a spool. 🙂
Next, we take the second important ingredient. liquid soap. Pour it into a convenient bottle of Decathlon sealant, dilute it with a little water and pour it into the wheel.
How it works. After some time, toilet paper will grind and mix with liquid soap into a homogeneous mass and then work for the benefit of reliably retaining air inside the wheel. This mixture protects against most punctures. There were no problems with her for 5 years. In winter, the mixture in the wheel does not collect in one lump and does not strum in the cold. In case of repair, it can be easily cleaned with water. It even helps to wash it so that it is very clean. 🙂
What to do in case of large cuts. To do this, I have a supply of superglue in the repair kit. The best gel is the one that spreads less. A patch is made from a piece of the camera and glued from the outside to the place of the cut. This is enough to get to the house and properly glue it from the inside. Twice I had to do such a marching repair. In the first case, I planted both wheels on beaver pencils in the stream and, despite the spare camera, sealed the holes and drove 50 km to the house. The tires survived. In the second case, in winter, I put the wheel on a wire sticking out from under the ice. I pasted over and drove the whole trip. Houses were sealed capaciously.
With tubeless tires, rolling is noticeably better. The wheels are hardly lighter. the weight of the sealant is about the same. In any case, it’s worth doing it. It works!
I make a sealant from the following components: remnant, water and finely chopped synthetic rope (re-cord). The remnant in the water will turn into a slurry, which will thicken. If necessary, it can be diluted with water without loss of properties. The fibers are very thin and do not disintegrate like paper. While observations show that the whole tire is covered up tightly. there is no need to pump up. To make it easy to install. I coat the bead and rim with liquid soap. In this case, it just well covers the micro-slots, allowing the tire to disperse and abut against the rim walls. Also, on soap, the tire immediately sits evenly, does not stick anywhere.
All this is good, but in comparison with the branded ones, the sealant has a minus. it does not patch forever, and is also designed for small punctures. Of course, it won’t keep cuts. The main task that he solves is to make it possible to get to the house (or a clean place and a good pump) and repair. to seal the hole. Fortunately, the soap is easily washed off.
What you need to install a tubeless tire
Disadvantages of tubeless
Although this technology has a number of advantages, it also has some disadvantages:
- Requires specialized tires, rims and sealant.
- It is harder to side the wheel
- Periodic replacement of the sealant (once every six months). doubtful minus.
- High cost
Tubeless bike tires
Tubeless technology for installing bicycle tires has been known for a long time. But, if earlier it was used mainly by professional riders, now it is available to many cycling enthusiasts.
In tubeless tires, there is no camera, and the function of the camera is performed by a special sealant. The tire with sealant adheres tightly to the rim walls and does not allow air to pass through. The use of such tires significantly reduces the likelihood of puncture and eliminates the unpleasant procedure for gluing the tubes.!
In this article, we will try to reveal the secrets of tubeless technology as accurately as possible, as well as analyze whether it is worth spending money on buying new components that will be required to assemble tubeless wheels.
Types of tubeless wheel sealants
Despite the large number of sealants on the market, all of them can be divided into two types. latex and polymer. The composition of the polymer sealant contains the smallest particles of fiber, which are in suspension. When a puncture forms, air escapes from the tire, capturing liquid with it. After a while, the fibers completely cover the puncture.
This type of anti-puncture fluid has several significant disadvantages:
- The main one is the impossibility of sealing micropores. As a result, if the tire is not completely new, drops of liquid gradually begin to appear through its walls.
- The second negative point is the difficulty with gluing large punctures. In this case, while the hole is tightened, a large amount of sealant comes out of the tire along with air.
Of the advantages of polymer sealants, one can single out their durability, as well as low cost.
A latex-based sealant contains a large number of microscopic rubber particles coated with a protein shell. This type of liquid is the closest in composition to a bicycle tire, since the rubber interacts with it perfectly. With the formation of a puncture and the rapid release of air from the tire, the protein shell is destroyed, and the rubber particles begin to instantly interact with fresh rubber at the site of damage. This process is identical to cold vulcanization.
There are several manufacturers that produce high-quality sealants:
- Stan’s No Tubes;
- Joe’s No Flats.
Life hack: Sealants for auto and motor vehicles designed for tubeless use are perfect for tubeless bicycle tires!
At the dawn of its development, back in 1999, tubeless technology meant only the use of special UST components. Due to its reliability, the universal tubeless system (UST) has not lost its relevance in our time. When making rims of this standard, no spoke holes are drilled into the rims. This ensures maximum tightness and strength. Another feature is the presence of special hooks for which the tire should cling to with its bead cord. This design ensures tightness even without the use of a sealant.
But, from the above advantages, the corresponding disadvantages follow:
- The high weight of the components used;
- High price;
- Low maintainability of the rims due to the fact that you have to look for special spokes.
These shortcomings pushed manufacturers to search for their elimination, which resulted in the emergence of a new BST standard. Bead Socket Technology. In the production of rims of this standard, manufacturers have taken into account a very important point. The fact is that UST rims have high walls and when installing a tire, it is meant to fit as accurately as possible with a bead cord for special hooks on the rim. In practice, this is almost never achieved. in most cases, the tire falls to the bottom of the rim. Because of this, its sidewalls are exposed to constant loads and bends, as a result of which the service life is significantly reduced, and there is also a risk of breaking and breaking the tire from the rim.
BST type rims have walls a few millimeters lower, thanks to which it was possible to solve not only this problem, but also to take advantage of the larger volume and better shape of the installed tire. In addition, when making rims, there is no need to make them completely sealed. In this case, a special tape of the appropriate width is used for this. It is glued along the rim in one or more layers, thereby sealing the holes for the spokes. In the place where there is a hole for the nipple, the tape is cut and a special nipple is inserted. Another feature of such a standard is the mandatory use of a sealant, which we will talk about in the further part of the article.
Installing a tubeless camera
3) Replace the original rim tape (flipper) with a special tubeless adhesive tape to seal the rim. Before starting the procedure, the rim from the inside must be cleaned and degreased. And in order for the tape to lay down more evenly and tightly, it must be slightly stretched during the gluing process. Also, make sure that no air bubbles form between the band and the rim. If the tape is of high quality, then one layer with an overlap of the tape in the area of the nipple hole by about 15 cm is quite enough. After gluing, at the location of the nipple, you need to make a rounded hole for its installation (preferably with a heated awl or nail);
5) Next, install the tire. For ease of installation, we wet the rim with a soap base or special grease. At this stage, with a partially installed tire, you can pour the sealant inside and then complete the installation of the tire.
Building a Custom E-Mountain Bike (Part 1) with Paul Brodie. Framebuilding 101
Also, you can pour the sealant through the nipple after the tire is completely installed on the rim.
The amount of sealant depends on the diameter of the tires as well as their width. On average, 60-120 ml. During the first installation, you do not need to save on the amount of sealant. let it evenly fill possible micro-holes, cracks, as well as gaps between the tire and the rim;
6) Next, we swing the wheel either with a compressor or special. a pump with an expansion chamber, or a CO2 canister until a characteristic click appears, which indicates that the tire is in the grooves;
7) We spin the wheel so that the sealant is evenly distributed inside the tire;
8) Then we set the working pressure in the wheel (indicated on the tire) using a pump with a pressure gauge.
Important! After all the necessary procedures, do not rush to put the wheel on the bike.
At first glance, the procedure for switching to tubeless technology is rather troublesome and expensive. But this is a delusion! After purchasing and installing all the necessary components for tubeless tubes (tapes, nipples and sealant), you just need to periodically replenish the sealant in the tire, forgetting about the endless patches! The only exceptions are serious cuts and tire ruptures, which are extremely rare. Using tubeless technology, you will completely forget about the unpleasant procedure for gluing cameras. And 1 liter of sealant is quite enough for several seasons of skiing, while buying high-quality expensive cameras can result in a pretty penny;)
DIY electric circuit
- Solder diodes 1N4004 in parallel bridges.
- Solder a capacitor between the “positive” and “negative” ends of the circuit.
- Install resistors and voltage regulator.
- Solder the LED (1W) and resistor to the headlight circuit.
- Connect the headlight to the capacitors through the wires, and then the electrical circuit with the generator on the rear wheel.
- To turn off the lamp even while cycling, in the gap between the capacitors and install a switch that will close and open the circuit.
The case with the electrical circuit is fixed to the bike frame, the wires are fixed with clamps.
How to make your own ebike (from hard tail to custom full suspension bike)
At the last stage, the operation of the system is checked: the wheel must freely pass over the wheel and move synchronously with it. With a properly assembled electrical circuit of capacitors, resistors and rectifier bridges, the headlight will turn on. True, at low wheel speeds, its light will flicker.
How to make a generator with your own hands
Now let’s try to make a generator for a bicycle on our own. We will use a stepper motor as a basis. To power the lighting devices, you will need an engine with the following characteristics:
- rated current. 2.4 A;
- resistance. 1.2 Ohm;
- output voltage. 2.88 V.
The dynamo should be installed close to the rear wheel hub. To transfer rotation from the wheel to the handwheel (rubberized wheel) of the motor, a transfer ring is required. You will need flexible plastic tape to create it. Manufacturing:
- Twist the ribbons into a ring, weld the ends.
- Cut out side slots for each wheel spoke. The depth of the slots. ¼ of the thickness of the ring.
- Place the ring on the knitting needles, fill the slots with glue-sealant on the inside of each knitting needle.
When the ring is ready, a stepper motor is screwed onto the free seats to the feathers, and the flywheel is installed over the ring. If there are no free spaces for the engine, you will need to weld an additional plate with holes on the frame.
The general scheme for creating a generator with your own hands: generator. assembly of an electrical circuit (bridges, resistors, capacitors). connection. installation of headlights.
To assemble the electrical unit for the headlights you will need:
- LEDs 1N4004. 8 pcs (bridge-converter);
- stabilizer LM317T;
- ceramic capacitor with a capacity of 1 μF;
- resistors 240 Ohm and 820 Ohm for the stabilizer;
- a 1W diode and a 110 Ohm resistor (0.25 W) to it;
- plastic box where everything will be.
We assemble the components taking into account the following scheme:
Hub dynamo as an electric motor
A hub dynamo, or hub generator, is a conventional bicycle hub with a built-in magnetic mechanism. During rotation, eddy currents are formed, at the exit from the bushing, mechanical energy is converted into a current with a given strength, voltage and power. On bicycle dynamos, the voltage reaches 6V and the power reaches 1.8-2W.
The invention was patented by the English company Sturmey Archer. Nowadays, production is actively supported by other manufacturing companies. Shimano and Schmidt.
Features of the generator sleeve design:
- fixed armature (winding) on the axis;
- an annular magnet fixed and rotating with the sleeve;
- terminals and double wires;
- high mass.
The bushing electricity source does not use the bike frame as a ground and is isolated from the frame together with the lamps. In a full-wave rectifier, the AC (output) and DC (to headlamp) circuits are completely separated from each other.
Dynamo hubs are heavy, however, lighter magnets of rare earth metals and an aluminum shell made it possible to slightly reduce their weight. In operation, the device has a low resistance to unwinding, and with an increase in the angular velocity, the frequency of the current increases. This effect smooths out the voltage gain and allows the generator to operate over wide speed ranges.
The headlights with which the hub generator is equipped have a built-in current stabilizer. When connecting another headlight, a separate rectifier is installed in the circuit so as not to burn the electrical appliance. The brightness of the headlamp depends on its requirements for the energy source and, in fact, the output voltage of the bushing. The more the discrepancy to the smaller side (the headlight is more powerful), the dimmer the light. In the opposite situation, the light source will not work.
Contactless bicycle generator
Bottle and carriage generators generate power by contacting a moving wheel. The hub dynamo is an integral part of the wheel. The contactless generator does not touch the wheel in any way, does not create frictional forces and resistance to rotation. Eddy currents are formed due to the close location of the plane of rotation of the magnetized rim and a strong magnet.
The headlights are built directly into the device, the electricity is transmitted directly through the rectifier bridge. The indisputable advantages of this generator include:
- lack of cables;
- there is no frictional force and resistance from the side of the device;
- low weight of the structure. no more than 60 g.
The devices are mounted in pairs: on the fork. the headlight, on the feather. the rear reflector. In fact, these are independent flashlights, only they do not work from batteries, but through the rotation of wheels in a magnetic field. The luminosity of the lamps is at or higher than that of rechargeable lighting devices.
When the wheel decelerates, the intensity of the eddy currents decreases, the lamps should dim, and when the wheel stops, they go out completely. To ensure uniform light and the ability to use the light even in the parking lot, a capacitor (“battery” for generating electricity) is provided in the design, which is filled when the bike moves.
A bicycle generator is a device that allows you to receive electricity by rotating the pedals and transfer it to the bicycle lighting or third-party electrical appliances. By design, bicycle generators are divided into several types: sleeve, bottle, carriage and contactless.
The output current and voltage are inextricably linked with the cadence. the speed of movement. The pattern is valid for all types of generators. The bicycle generator produces alternating current, which is stabilized to direct current by a rectifier bridge. Its role can be played by soldered diode lamps or special devices, for example, a full-wave rectifier.
Bottle bike generator: features, pros and cons
Let’s get acquainted with another source of energy. a bottle, or “tire” converter.
The bottle generator is a closed housing with a rotating rubber roller on the outside, attached to the front fork. The body contains a directly converting device. winding and magnets. The movement of the magnetic field is achieved due to the engagement of the roller with the tire and the direct transfer of mechanical energy from the wheel to it. The higher the driving speed, the stronger the polarity inside the generator and the higher the output voltage.
- the ability to turn off as unnecessary. just move the roller to the side;
- easy to install on any type of bike;
- inexpensive compared to sleeve generators.
- weight misalignment: weight is about 250 g, “bottle” is attached on one side;
- low efficiency in wet weather. the roller slides on the tire;
- noise, high friction at speeds;
- tire sidewall wear;
- long adjust the tilt and position.
We should also mention the carriage bicycle generator. Its body is fixed in the area of the pedal assembly. carriage, under the chain stays. The rotation of the magnetic device is set by a roller that meshes with the rear wheel of the bike. The fixation of the roller on the tire is provided by a clamping spring.
The electric generator will allow you to get the additional benefit of pedaling. completely “free” to receive energy for lighting your two-wheeled vehicle when driving on a dark highway or rough terrain. Small and useful, this device requires little or no maintenance and can be assembled on your own.
How to glue a tubeless bicycle wheel?
In this article, we’ll show you how to fix a puncture or cut on a tubeless bike tire. What tools are needed for this. What mistakes should not be made when repairing bk rubber.
So we got a puncture or cut in the tire. First, you need to quickly find the puncture site and prepare a repair kit.
Important! It is advisable not to let the tire go down “to zero” as it can “pop out of the sides” (this is when the tire peels off the rim side) and then, in addition to the puncture, you will have to solve the problem with pumping in the field, and this requires a special Co2 pump or a high-performance pump / stack / compressor. To prevent the tire from completely descending, you can not remove the object due to which the wheel has punched or pinch the puncture site with your finger until you start to eliminate the puncture.
Preparing the place of damage to the tire: We remove the cause of the puncture from the wheel, if it remains, and push the awl of the repair kit into the place of damage and grind it. We take out the awl and again hold the puncture site with your finger so that the wheel does not go down.
We take the tourniquet and insert it into the holder, as shown in the photo.
Together with the bundles, we insert our awl into the puncture site by about 1.5-2 cm so that two tendrils of the bundle stick out. It is not necessary to use glue. If there is a sealant left in your tire, it will seal up the remaining puncture well. If there is not enough sealant, it is advisable to add it, but after using the repair kit.
Now the most difficult moment, which everyone who has once faced the repair of a tire used does it in his own way. it’s like taking out an awl and leaving the tourniquet in the tire. Someone simply cuts off the tourniquet in half by twisting the awl in the tire (as many motorists or motorcyclists do), but for this you need to have a sufficiently strong tire with a thick side. If the tire is light and thin, then this trick will not work.
Tip: From my own experience, I first stretch the tourniquet a little in the middle, thereby making it thinner at the place where the awl is gripped. This allows you to easily remove the holder from the flagellum when it is already in the tire.
How reliable and durable is such a repair? How wide a hole can be repaired with a repair kit?
Do I need to cut the antennae from the harness sticking out of the tire?
Not necessary. Over time, they will wear off on the asphalt because they have a softer rubber composition than your tire.
Can be used in wet weather?
You can use an ordinary awl or a small screwdriver instead of a special screwdriver awl for repairing tubeless tires?
I have run out of special flagella, what should I do??

How to make a tricycle for adults with your own hands?
In order to make a tricycle yourself, you need to decide on the type of device, as well as what the product will be used for.
- If it is a cargo bike, models with a large front rack should be preferred.
- For cycling enthusiasts, a classic bike with two wheels in the back and a passenger seat in the back is suitable.
Before starting the installation of the three-wheeled device, it is necessary to make all the drawings and calculations.
Particular attention is paid to the following elements:
- stability, it is necessary to correctly calculate the location of the rear wheels;
- the height of the steering wheel and seat is calculated individually for each person, depending on the height;
- purchase a rear axle with a differential, which will not only be responsible for comfort during movement, but also, on the advice of specialists, is necessary for bladeless driving;
- calculate steering features, the device should not fall to one side when cornering.
Advantages of using a tricycle for adults
Most often, this type of transport is used for people of age or for those who cannot normally maintain their balance while driving.
The tricycle has the following advantages:
- this type of device is suitable for absolutely any person, regardless of age;
- the cost of the device is affordable;
- each person will be able to independently make this type of device, while there is no need to spend a large amount of money and have special skills;
- the bike is stable while riding, regardless of the type of road;
- can be used for the carriage of goods;
- considered safer than a two-wheeled device;
- low frame is suitable for people of different ages.

How to make an adult tricycle yourself?
The use of a bicycle as a vehicle is popular in absolutely any city. However, in some cases, you can find a tricycle for an adult.
Such a device can be made independently, while you just need to follow the recommendations of specialists.
How to do it yourself?
So, if you decide to make a tricycle without a differential, the sequence of actions is as follows:
Building An Electric Streetfighter Motorcycle. Complete Build & Test Ride!
- Dismantle the rear wheel fork, install the pre-prepared aluminum tube frame just below the seat;
- An asterisk is attached to the center of the rear axle. From the front wheel, the drive goes to the driven sprocket of the rear hub. An additional gear sprocket is needed in order to rotate the axle shaft of one of the rear wheels;
- Fixing the brake cables.
This is a classic configuration without a differential, in which the drive goes to only one wheel (most often to the right). Therefore, slight roll is possible when turning.
How to make a tricycle
Until the child has learned to pedal and steer himself, a tricycle with a handle is chosen for him. For most models, the pedals are either removable or with locks; up to a certain age, they rather act as a support for the child’s feet. At the age of 2-2.5 years, children begin to show interest in pedals, they can already understand the sequence of actions. pedaling. driving, turning the wheel. turning. From this time on, the child can ride on his own, without the participation of his parents, cycling becomes an exciting activity for him, which will not soon get bored.!
Basic requirements when choosing a two- or three-wheeled friend for a toddler:
- The seat should be comfortable and soft. a soft spring saddle is often chosen for a child;
- It must be stable, comfortable and reliable;
- It should not have unnecessary elements that could injure the child. The handles must be soft.
And if the choice of tricycles for toddlers is really great, then the choice of models for adults is very limited. But if you put in the effort and ingenuity, you can assemble a tricycle with your own hands. In addition to the right attitude and desire, you will need:
- Bicycle repair tool kit;
- Base. for example, an old bicycle with wheels;
- Additional wheel, chain links, rear bushing with additional sprocket, set of brakes, clamps;
- Rear axle with differential assy.
How to make a bike with a differential?
Oddly enough, assembling a tricycle for adults with your own hands with a differential is even easier than without it.
First of all, you need to disassemble the rear, remove the wheel, chain and disconnect the brakes. The assembled factory bridge is fixed to the frame with clamps.
The axle is driven into the rear wheel attachment points. Once the bridge has been installed, a 90 ° angle must be achieved with respect to the frame. The bike is placed on a smooth surface, a “level” is hung on the handlebars. weight on a string. The thread should stretch strictly parallel to the frame, without deviating. After such a check, the bridge fastenings are again tightened with clamps.
A new chain must also be installed. The structure has lengthened, and the chain should be longer. so we add additional links.
The final stage of assembly is setting up the reverse gears. Making a tricycle with your own hands is not an easy and costly task.
And at the end, here are some general tips for choosing a bike:
- Choose a high-quality and reliable model, because your safety depends on it!
- It should be stable and comfortable.
- It must have a bell and brakes on it. It will not be superfluous to install reflective elements.
- Pay attention to the dimensions. whether it goes into the elevator and to the staircase, how convenient it is to transport it in the car. Is it possible to compactly fold it without unnecessary labor costs.
DIY bike repair: 14 tips for beginners
Elementary tips to help you carry out emergency repairs with bicycles with your own hands everywhere: in the field, in the forest, in your own apartment.
It is difficult and scary to communicate with riders with a high level of knowledge. First, a lot is not clear. Secondly, there is a chance that they will be laughed at. And practice shows: you can ride a bike around the city for years without even having a normal pump, not to mention the skills of replacing the camera and adjusting the brakes.
But we all understand: sooner or later “the music will finish playing”: you will have to go through and you will have to “patch up”, or wash the chain, or simply raise the saddle height / adjust the steering wheel / tighten the brake cables. What is needed for this? And in general, how to maintain a bike at an elementary level?
All about this. further: in the form of a question-answer.
Is it difficult to change the camera? How Dirty It Is?
You can change the camera. The operation is not very difficult, you just need to figure out how the wheel is attached. On mountain bikes and highways, as a rule, eccentrics are used, on other bikes. nuts: either for open-end wrenches or for hexagons.
The front wheel can be removed simply: the mount and brakes (where available) are loosened. We take out the wheel from the fork or dropouts, arm ourselves with gloves and assemblies, try to release the tire cord (this is its solid frame) from one side. You don’t have to remove the tire completely, just one side is enough. Strength and perseverance, of course, will have to be applied, but physically it is not very difficult.
When one side of the tire is removed, you need to inspect the tire itself, the rim, the flipper (rubber band that protects the tube from the spokes) and the tube itself. If everything is in order with the rim, tire and flipper, and the camera has a puncture, breakdown, or it breaks at the junction with the nipple, then you can safely put a new one. The new tube should be pumped up a little (it is easier to refuel it) and inserted into the tire. The camera should be flat and not twisted. Do not forget about the nipple, which needs to be inserted into a special hole in the rim.
Further. all the same actions, but in reverse order. We put on the tire using the monitors (carefully, do not pinch the camera!), Inflate the wheel and put it in place.
The rear wheel is the same, but it is more difficult to remove it due to the chain (and on bicycles with a foot brake, you also need to release the brake shackle, which is bolted to the frame).
Here is a good video on this topic (on the merits of the question. from 1:44).
Which pump is better to have?
It is more convenient to carry a compact pump. The best option is a pump that pumps in both directions. A pressure gauge is desirable. There are also inflator pumps on the market that, using charged cartridges, will quickly inflate the wheel.
Owners of singles (23-35 tires), fixes, road bikes, as well as hybrids should think about buying a floor pump for their home. The recommended tire pressures for these bicycles are high, so a regular pump won’t help in this situation.
What is the best way to wash a bike and whether it is necessary to lubricate it later?
You can wash it in any way: on your own using a bucket and a rag, in the bathroom or at the car wash. But there is one caveat. If you wash your bike with pressurized water, you do not need to direct the jet to the brake rotors and calipers. After washing, wipe and lubricate the chain. After lubrication. turn the pedals and remove excess lubricant with a lint-free cloth.

How to make a trunk bag for a bicycle. 2 options
I decided to sew a bag like a bicycle backpack, only much easier.
It took: a shopping bag-bag two fasteners of a sling 50 cm a small piece of synthetic waterproof fabric Velcro drawstring thread scissors. I took a small bag as a basis, of which there were many at home.
Cut out a piece of black cloth for the flap cover. I tucked this piece over and hemmed, and sewed the lid to the top of the back of the bag, from the inside. On the front edge of the lid, I sewed pieces of slings (with a margin) for fasteners so that they move freely. The second part of the fasteners was sewn with a small piece of sling to the front of the bag. This made it possible to increase the capacity of the product.
A for tools and a bike repair kit will also come in handy on the go
From the back of the bag, I sewed on the center of the loop for attaching two laces. With their help, the product will be tied to the trunk in the future, which will prevent the bag from swaying when moving.
I tie the bag to the trunk of the bike with a rope, for threading which I sewed loops from the slings in the upper part of the product. After each threading, I wrap the rope around the trunk rod Very pleased with such a useful homemade product!
Note The product turned out to be very relevant for fishing trips, because spinning rods, although short, but with spinning reels are not extremely compact, and I can freely put 4 such rods in my bag (see main photo).
Do-it-yourself roomy bike rack
Once I saw on sale plastic containers. boxes for vegetables. I bought the most suitable one and got to work. The box is plastic, not rigid, and the weakest place for attaching to a bike is the bottom.
To strengthen the structure, I cut a blank out of 4 mm plywood to fit the bottom. I just fixed it not inside, but outside. Box dimensions 140x300x400 mm.
From a metal strip 2×20 mm, an angle grinder cut four blanks 2x20x180 mm. And since the width of the standard rear trunk is 140 mm, the stripes overlapped it in width.
I stepped back from the edge of the strips by 15 mm and drilled a hole in them. From them I set aside 20 mm to the center of the workpiece and again drilled holes d 6 mm. they just hit the edges of the trunk bars.
I also drilled the corresponding holes in the plywood. I connected the blanks-strips, a regular bicycle rack, plywood, a box and tightened it with MB nuts from the bottom. It turned out, maybe not entirely aesthetically pleasing, but convenient.

DIY bike bag
The whole family loves cycling. it is both interesting and good for health. When traveling long distances, it is advisable to equip the transport with spare parts. a camera and patches, as well as a tool necessary for repair. That is why I sewed a simple and roomy bag.
On cardboard, I traced the inner contour of the frame (the upper corner next to the seat) of the bike with a marker. I cut off all unnecessary with scissors and rounded the corners, I got a triangular template (see the figure on page 15) (the dimensions are arbitrary and depend on the shape of the frame). Marker marked the places where the belts were sewn in for fastening to the frame.
Using a leatherette template, I cut out two blanks of the sidewalls in a mirror image and prepared an average sewn-in tape with a small allowance along the length.
I sewed a zipper into one of the sidewalls From a nylon tape I cut blanks for fastening belts.
I stitched the sides of the bag, putting the loop of the tape inside and at the same time fixing them in their places. turned the finished product onto his face. I hung the case on the bike frame, it remains only to complete it. and you can hit the road.

BIKE TUNING. WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH YOUR OWN HANDS?
Often a bicycle is an expression of the riding style, the emotional mood of the cyclist. It turns out that tuning a bike is no less interesting than tuning cars, for example. Therefore, at a certain moment the question arises: “How to upgrade your bike?” “How to make tuning a bike at home with your own hands, where to start”.
OWN HAND BIKE TUNING: PHOTO INSTRUCTIONS
Tuning a bike with your own hands (photos will be presented below) is an interesting and exciting activity that everyone can do, you will need to show your imagination and skill, in any case, you can always turn to specialists for help.
Tuning a bike consists not only in its decoration, but also in the installation of better, more comfortable and reliable components. This can be the replacement of pedals, steering wheel, saddle, brakes.
Today we will tell you about the upgrade of the latter, or rather it will not be the entire brake system, but only the replacement of the brake levers.
It should be remembered that structurally the levers have a similar structure, but the more expensive ones are made of better materials, so they are lightweight, but more rigid.
Also, high-quality brakes differ in the trajectory of movement of the brake pads (their translational movement, and not along an arc of a circle). These are brakes like Shimano Deore Lx.
If you nevertheless decide to change the brake levers, then you should know that they are different for brake pads. threaded and unthreaded. Therefore, when buying, you should choose a suitable type of levers, otherwise you will have to buy new pads.
Now about the installation of the levers. Before starting work, remove all dirt from the brake axle. The holes for the retainer should also be cleaned. Now grease the axle (a little).
The brake lever comes in a variety of designs, however, all of these designs are compatible with the front fork and frame mountings. The latch is located near the axle hole. The latch is inserted into a special hole for this. The lever has an adjusting screw for the return spring.
It should also be remembered that the right lever is different from the left lever. The first has screws for attaching the cable, and the second has clamps for the cable end.
Before installing the arm, determine which side it is suitable for. The lever that has a collar is suitable for the side that has a cable.
Now about the installation. The lever should be put on the axle, and a lock should be inserted into one of the holes. Start with medium. If you don’t like the way the brakes move, then simply reposition the lever lock. It should be borne in mind that they must stand in the same position.
Now screw the fixing screw in the hole in the axle. To tighten the screw, take the paint and run a little along the threads. Install the second brake lever in the same way.
Now let’s take the brake pads and install them (if you haven’t already). Do not overtighten them as they still need to be adjusted. First, install the pads so that they are perpendicular to the rim and brake levers.
In this case, if the brake lever turns, then the pads rest against the side surface of the rim. this is their correct installation.
By following the instructions above, you can effectively install the brake pads on your bike.
BIKE TUNING AT HOME
Tuning your bike at home can be a breeze. Painstaking. yes, but not difficult. You can buy an inexpensive bike model and then customize it for yourself and make the bike of your dreams.
In order to upgrade your transport, you need to be patient and have tools. So where do you start? For starters, you can install more comfortable and better parts on your bike:
- the saddle is more comfortable and suitable for you;
- pedals (replace the usual ones with contact ones);
- install or remove the trunk;
- wheels (or simply replace tires with more functional and suitable for your riding style);
- steering wheel, etc.
Having decided what you would like to improve technically, you can think about improving the artistic.
At home, you can easily install LED lights on a bicycle, change ordinary nipples to glowing ones, because each set of such lights has its own simple instruction. LED lighting can be installed anywhere:
- on the spokes of the wheel in the form of various patterns;
- on the steering wheel;
- on pedals;
- on the frame, etc.
The next step could be painting the bike. It is also not a very difficult procedure if you approach this process responsibly. Prepare the bike frame carefully before painting:
- it is necessary to remove everything from it;
- further, for a better work, you must remove all irregularities, stickers from it (smoke it);
- it is advisable to prime the frame;
- after that the frame can be painted.
It will be better to paint the frame from a small spray gun. When painting, it is not recommended to go over the same place more than two times. After you’ve painted the frame, let it dry for a few days (even if the paint dries quickly). This will allow the paint to adhere better.
It should be said that tuning a bike is more dependent on the cyclist’s ability to work with tools. If you are a jack of all trades, then you can completely change the look of the factory bike (by attaching the parts you need to it that you can make at home with your own hands). In any case, everything will depend only on your imagination.
BIKE TUNING AS EXPRESSION AND BIKE STYLE
Those who have made the bicycle an integral part of their lives cannot have the same units. Almost every cyclist adjusts the transport for himself, making it more convenient and unique. Tuning a bike can be both functional (associated with improving its qualities) and “for beauty” (associated with improving its appearance). As a result of such work, the bicycle may become completely different from its original appearance.
One of the popular ways to personalize your transport is LED lighting. They can be installed anywhere, but often they are placed so as to illuminate the asphalt under the bike, special diodes can also be installed on the nipple caps, which glow during movement.
In turn, this is also a practical moment, from the point of view of lighting some elements of the bike (for example, the backlight of the speedometer allows you to see your speed in the dark, etc.). There are firms that can install more powerful diode lamps, as well as direction indicators, strobe lights, automatic light switching.
The most practical option for tuning a bike is to upgrade its attachments and various components. You can improve everything:
- fork, shock absorbers;
- transmission and shifting;
- wheels (spokes, rims, tires, etc.);
- brake system (rotors, calipers, adapters, etc.);
- control (saddle, pedals, steering wheel, etc.).
Tuning can eat up a significant part of your budget, so you should decide on the main details when replacing equipment, and also you should not make too much difference in the equipment class, as this may affect the functionality of the entire bike.
Also, during tuning, you can add a bike bag, bike flashlight, bike computer, water bottle, fenders, a comfortable seat to your bike. All this will increase the functionality of transport and the comfort of your movement.
