Now you can start directly correcting the figure eight. Pay attention to the arrangement of the needles: one on one side, the next on the opposite, i.e. they alternate quite logically. Now find the spoke closer to the center of the previously drawn mowing line from one side of the rim and going to the opposite side. It will then need to be pulled, but first you need to slightly loosen the two adjacent knitting needles fixed on this side. It should be noted that tightening must be twice as strong as loosening. The same operation should be done on the back of the rim.
But look, do not get carried away, since you need to tighten and loosen quite a bit. It all depends on the “seriousness” of the figure eight, so the knitting needles should be twisted ¼-½ a turn. Now erase the line and repeat from the beginning until the wheel is level. This is basically all that is needed to fix the figure eight, but if the wheel was damaged and it was rear, then you may need to adjust the forward and reverse gears.

4) Take out the camera by simply grasping it with your fingers. Take on the opposite side of the nipple (spool).
5) In principle, you can insert a new camera, but I recommend removing the tire completely (this can be done with your hands or with assemblies (keys)). And check the condition of the rim if there are any metal burrs inside, check the condition of the rim tape, view the inside of the tire. If you are a cyclist, you need to be able to deal with a number of common problems that can happen on the road. A broken wheel is one of the main ones. Installing a new tire
We put on a new tire on one “edge” of the wheel, so that we have a free for inserting the camera.
We take a new chamber (deflated) and, starting with the nipple, we lay it along the rim.

The main thing is that the mounting depth is the same throughout the entire circle.
After the wheel is closed, pump up the chamber to the desired state. Usually, the pressure you need is indicated on the tire, check it to get your pump set up correctly.
Now screw the cap on the nipple to fix the condition of the wheel.
It remains to put the wheel in place and that’s it. Now your bike is back on the move! Do a small circle on it at low speed to make sure everything is secured correctly and you feel comfortable. If necessary, inflate the chamber of the second wheel so that they are equally elastic. Many cyclists experience minor riding discomfort after replacing one camera. 1.Unscrew the protective cap from the nipple. If necessary, completely deflate the wheel. This will make the job easier, since there will be no unnecessary resistance.
2.Using the razor, hook the edge of the tire and pull it out of the rim. Special tools allow this procedure to be carried out quickly and as painlessly as possible. If you don’t have a rigger, you can try using any thin and sturdy object, such as a spoon. Its handle has repeatedly helped out cyclists who did not have repair tools at hand. Make sure that it does not bend over.
Important: The tool should not have sharp ends, so a screwdriver is not the best solution, although it does fit the intended shape. You can only damage the wheel more with it. If you want to keep the tire, don’t.
Optimally use two assemblies. First, hook the edge of one, then, when you fix the position, in 2-3 centimeters, hook the tire with the second mounting. This will be followed by a release of pressure, and the work will go easier. While continuing to support the first assembly with your hand, continue to pry the tire in a circle with the second until it is completely released from the rim.
4.Now that one edge of the tire is completely removed, release the nipple and remove the damaged tube.

Try not to rush during the procedure and be attentive at every step. Any carelessness can then turn into problems on the road. If you keep an old tire, do not forget to check the inside of the tire for any piercing or cutting elements. How many times has it happened that a cyclist, without looking, put a new camera, and not having time to drive off even a hundred meters, he got a puncture again. Therefore, with your bare hand, carefully and slowly walk over the entire inner surface.
Pump a little air into the new tube to make it round and fit into the tire. Insert the nipple into the hole first.
Now tuck the tire into the rim, this is done by hand, little by little. In the end, you may have a small part that does not lend itself, then you need to resort to editing. But. be careful not to tear the camera.
Done. all that remains is to screw the fixing nut onto the nipple and inflate the wheel. On some rims, the tire does not want to properly get into its seat, then during the pumping process you will have to knead it with your fingers.
Hope you don’t come across another glass on your way home. But the shells sometimes fall into the same funnel, so let’s figure out how to glue the punctured chamber. To do this, you need to carry with you a small box with a repair kit (glue, sandpaper, patches).

This note is for the smallest beginner cyclists who have never experienced a puncture. I guarantee you will, so read, remember, or better. practice at home.
In general, the frequency of punctures depends on three factors. Trash traffic, rider weight and rubber density. It is difficult to influence the first and second, but tires must be chosen carefully.
Heavy and oak tires do not always have good puncture resistance. There is such a parameter of tires as TPI, and the higher this number, the denser the rubber. the thinner the thread of its weaving. The density itself does not yet give a guarantee against puncture, therefore manufacturers sometimes add an anti-puncture layer as well.
In general, oddly enough, the most difficult thing to puncture a road tire, during the entire time of owning a highway, I pierced a couple of times. But on the mountain a hundred times. and this is literally. The fact is that in proportion, road tires have a significantly higher density and stiffness compared to mtb rubber.
There is also such a phenomenon: with the mileage, the tire seems to “get stuck”, its density decreases and it begins to puncture. despite the fact that the tread is still quite normal. Perhaps this is more evident under heavy cyclists, as I have heard this most often from them.
Some people use anti-puncture tapes that are glued to the inside of the tire. In a way, this can save you from small glasses, but personally, I had no experience with such tapes. The sealant poured into the chambers is often useless.
I am not addressing the issue of tubeless wheels here, as this is outside the scope of a beginner’s article. Maybe we’ll talk about this separately some other time.
In terms of the likelihood of a puncture, there is most likely no difference whether the tire is inflated to the maximum or lowered. But there is also such a phenomenon as the breakdown of the camera or “snake bite”. When the pressure in the tire is low, then as soon as the wheel rushes over a sharp edge (a pothole in the asphalt, a curb), the tube will be punched against the rim. Two cuts are formed on it, similar to the mark from the teeth of a snake. This is especially true of rubber on road bikes and hybrids.
Therefore, try to keep the tire pressure close to maximum when driving on asphalt. Regarding soils. a separate conversation, there, on the contrary, for better adhesion to the surface, lower pressure is preferable. The maximum and minimum pressure values are written on the side of the tire and are usually marked in PSI.
So let’s get down to practice. We are punctured, and the wheel is rapidly losing air. You cannot go further, otherwise the rim will chew on the camera and tire. Stop, remove the wheel. Bring out assemblies, spare chamber and pump.

How to glue the camera
Find the puncture site. At home, this is easy to do: you need to fill the sink with water and immerse the pumped-up chamber there. bubbles will immediately run out of the hole. In the field, everything is more complicated. I usually pump the camera harder and listen with my ear to where the air is coming out. Localize the hole with water droplets from a flask.
Wipe the puncture site dry, and then clean it with sandpaper and a brush, which are in the repair kit.
Apply an even, thin layer of glue to the patch (or maybe to the camera too). Wait five minutes for the glue to dry.
Apply the patch gently and squeeze with your fingers for a couple of minutes. Then, after waiting another five minutes, put the camera in the tire and pump it up. No need to put maximum pressure, the patch should come up completely.
PS. A small subtlety. almost all tires have an arrow indicating the direction of travel. It is necessary to observe this rule, because the efficiency of the tread pattern depends on it.
If everything is done correctly, then the reliability of such a sealed chamber is absolute. I had cameras with 5-8 patches and nothing. no problem.
In addition to a puncture and a snakebite, cameras tend to deteriorate with age. This can manifest itself in cracks, as a result of which one day it will explode. The nipple may come off, just this happened to me twice in one day (!) On a bicycle trip in France.
Therefore, once every three to four years, it makes sense to change cameras for new ones, even if outwardly they look intact.
Consider also the fact that there are rims that only fit Presta nipples (bicycle), and if you buy a camera with a Schrader nipple (car), it will be an unpleasant surprise on the road.
For all the time I have not been able to find MTB tires that I could mark as puncture-resistant. I blame my big weight for this, because all my light cocatals had an order of magnitude fewer punctures than me.

How to identify a malfunctioning nipple

- Visual. Apply a drop of water to the spool. The escaping air will create small bubbles. It is not necessary to apply water on chambers with anti-puncture. if the valve is worn out, the sealant will come out together with the air.
- Contact. Everything is simple here: we pump up the chamber to a certain pressure and clamp the hole. We wait 5-10 minutes, then quickly measure the pressure. If it does not fall, then the problem is in the nipple.
Faults include not only valve and spool wear. For example, stem stripping on Presta nipples makes them completely unusable. There is also the problem of tearing the rubberized sleeve of the sleeve from the chamber. this is for a classic auto nipple. In the case of Presta, the sealing washer is deformed.
The causes of these malfunctions are incorrect tire pressure. So, due to the pumping of the wheels on the Presta nipple, there is a breakdown of the rod by a powerful air flow. Insufficient pressure deforms the fastening of the rubber sleeve casing to the chamber. So it is necessary to adhere to the optimal pressure in the tires of the bicycle in order to avoid trouble with both punctures and nipples.
Replacing the car and sport nipple
Both Schrader and Presta change according to a similar algorithm. carefully remove the old part and install a new one in its place. The difference is that the “shredder” nipple fits into an elastic band, which in turn is firmly glued to the chamber walls. Therefore, it is very important not to damage the rubber grommet. The sports one is pushed by the platform into the camera hole and is fixed from above with a lock nut.

- Push the rubber bands into the protective cap around the circumference. Leave the thread free from below to screw onto the nipple body.
- Pump the chamber to excess pressure with a pump: do not be afraid, it will not burst, some of the air will come out when the hole is plugged.
- Quickly remove the pump and plug the hole with your thumb. You can’t hesitate, otherwise the air will quickly bleed to low pressure.
- Raise the cap, remove your finger from the hole and quickly put the cap on it. We do not hesitate, otherwise everything will have to be repeated again.
- Tighten the cap to the maximum. Straightened inside the spatula firmly seal the air outlet, thus keeping it inside the chamber.
- Gently insert the camera into the bicycle wheel rim.
