Fillet sharpened with a spindle chisel

Having cut out several cylinders 200 mm long, mark the mowing line on them in 12 mm increments and start working on the fillet turning.

The baluster cone can be turned out with a rough chisel and “spindle”.

At the same time, tilt the tool slightly in the machining direction.

Angle threads can only be done with one tool. “Spindle”. First, a series of lines with a step of 12 mm are drawn on the cylinder with a pencil. Machining is done only with the tip of the bit and the cutting edge remains parallel to the grinding surface. We need to imagine how to mow the grass in a ditch, if you drive along it, the mower goes horizontally, but if necessary, the slopes increase. Likewise, the bit should move, but you should follow the cutting edge, not the shank. Compared to the work of the roughing chisel, the position of the hands on the “spindle” is the same, but the grip is weaker.

Set the chisel so that the heel of the cutting lump slides over the workpiece, and the chisel itself should be at right angles to its axis.Lift the handle, lower the cutting edge and rotate a very small groove exactly in the middle of one of the 12mm sections.

Reference: Improvement of the circular. make it more convenient

To prototype the right side of the fillet, turn the chisel blade counterclockwise and, touching the tip of the chisel to the workpiece along the mowing line of the marking, turn the blade in the opposite direction (clockwise), turning the fillet to the bottom. The rotation should be controlled and even, and the handle should move freely, so do not place it on your thigh.

Now rotate the left side of the fillet in the same way. At the bottom of the fillet, the chisel should slide very easily over the pusher. Then, one by one, processing is performed now to the right, then to the left, in order to obtain the required fillet depth, but always complete the pass exactly in the middle.

A chisel cannot be cut from a chisel. For narrow fillets, appropriate chisels are required.

Roller for balusters. this is the stucco molding opposite. And I believe that learning how to hone it is the most difficult thing. To overturn them only with a “spindle”, although there are supporters of this operation with an oblique chisel. But usually in balusters there are small rollers, to sharpen an oblique chisel. risky business.

When making balusters, an elliptical roller looks good, and not in the form of a semicircle. Therefore, it is not as tall as it is wide. For training on a cylindrical workpiece, a V-shaped cutting chisel makes grooves 3 mm deep in 10 mm increments. The result is a series of rings 10 mm wide.

Like fillets, the roller is sharpened in two stages. half a pass and always downhill. To cut the right side of the bead, tilt the bit slightly to the right and start at the middle of the ring. Machining is carried out to the right, while the handle of the chisel moves to the left and the blade turns clockwise. To cut an elliptical roller, when working to the right and the chisel handle must be moved to the right.

Then, on the left, flip the right one you just made. A beginner will usually get irregular ridges at first because the right-hander drags a little to the right, and the left-hander. to the left. With the acquisition of experience, the problem goes away by itself.

On large rollers, start machining closer to the edge of the ring and only round the corners on the first pass. Subsequent passes increase the curvature. Do not try to remove a thick layer of wood in one pass.

The roller effect is greatly enhanced by the support of the corners with the toe of the oblique chisel.

Learn new mixing tips and techniques. articles

If you are a member of Club 808, chances are you have some basic shuffling techniques. But haven’t you always wondered how to learn differently? A cooler way? Here we look at some mixing techniques that are different enough to impress, yet easy to learn. Watch the video for a smoother demonstration. If you are new to shuffler, you may start with a deck that has already been used.

A note on washing: “flushing” a deck of cards means that you are essentially shuffling the deck, that is, placing the deck face down on the table and spreading it around to shuffle the cards, making sure that each card touches the table surface in front of how to put the deck back together. Many dealers do this to keep the deck well shuffled. It’s up to you whether you want to wash or not, but it can provide better mixing if you’re still new to these new mixing modes.

Selection and preparation of tools for making balusters for stairs

I do not recommend buying a set of tools. It may not have a chisel “spindle”, but a scabbard, on the contrary. there should be too many of them, and it may also be too narrow an oblique chisel. It is worth taking tools only from high-speed steel. They are not much more expensive than regular steel tools, but sharpened longer. And even if they overheat during painting, the steel does not stand out.

The coarse half round chisel should be 32mm wide, but you can use the cheaper 20mm wide. A coarse chisel can be sharpened with a coarse “nail” on the cutting edge, but I prefer a straight line as the shoulders are easier to sharpen. This chisel can be sharpened by placing the pen in a guide (Photo 2-1) or in your own thigh.

Chisel “spindle” 12 mm wide. workhorse, and you shouldn’t spare money on it. Choose a tip from a round rod, not from a thin rolled one. It is best if this chisel is sharpened like a long nail, although it is usually sold short sharpened. The shape of the nail can be sharpened by eye on a table sharpener, but it is quite difficult. Therefore, it is better to look for a special device (for example, “Sorbi and Tormek”) that simplifies this work.

I try to sharpen a very long “nail” that I call a high degree of sharpening, but other lathes work well with a fairly short sharpening.

You need to experiment and determine which is right for you, but in any case, the blade is sharpened to match the sharpness of the razor. This can be done on donkeys, but with a polishing wheel, the job will go much faster and less likely to spoil the profile.

By name, the V-shaped cutting chisel is most often used. It is also used with calipers when copying parts, when turning the shoulders of the rollers and turning the studs.

The chisel works great with an undercut of the working edge (photo 2-5 at the bottom of the article), and the best cut. a rhombus with less friction than an inexpensive rectangular chisel. I recommend a chisel with a thickness of 1.5 or 3 mm.

At the same time, keep a constant cutting angle and hold the bit at a 90 ° angle to the workpiece. Fig. 3-4. When finished, tilt the bit in the cutting direction and slowly move it along the pusher.

In an inclined bit, the cutting edge is formed by two bevels and is beveled at an angle of 25 ° or 30 ° to the longitudinal axis. the only tool that cannot be sharpened with undercuts. It is much better to sharpen it with a flat (or even slightly convex) bevel. Fortunately, these are the chamfers that all inclined chisels come with and can be ground on stakes.

However, if the slanting chisel falls onto the cement floor, it will have to be sharpened again. You can quickly do this by pressing the tool against the side of the grinding wheel, although the instructions are not recommended. However, I do this, but only by simply pressing the chisel down to a 25mm thick wheel. If your workshop has a “wet” slow whetstone, then you can use the side of the circle on it without worrying about safety.

Dealers do this, primarily because (after a long practice) this is the shuffle that does the least damage to the cards. The bend is minimal, but you get the same effect as with regular stirring. With a little practice, this shuffle will look like you barely move any cards at all.

  • Line up the deck (fold it in a neat stack). Cut out the deck so that you have 2 stacks of roughly equal size and square them. Place the two stacks horizontally in front of you with the two inner and bottom corners facing directly towards you.
  • Place your thumbs on these two corners and your index fingers. to opposite corners. The rest of your fingers should hold the cards firmly in place.
  • Use your thumbs to pull the corners up, press the two halves of the deck closer together, then let the cards fall. like a normal shuffle, but only using a small corner of the deck. Now the very corners of the cards must be shuffled together.
  • Slide the connected cards together, line up the deck, and repeat.

This shuffle is a version of the striped palm shuffle. It takes some practice to get it right, but it looks impressive when you do it right.

  • Hold the deck with the edge down with the palm of your left hand. Grab lightly. Your thumb and middle finger should protrude from the top of the deck.
  • With the index and thumb of your right hand, gently pull out a portion of the deck. about ¾ of the deck from the bottom. in one pile. Leave the remaining ¼ of the deck in your left hand.
  • Move the pile of cards in your right hand over the pile in your left hand. Using your left thumb and middle finger, draw a few cards from the top of your right hand. The right cards should be on top of your left pile.
  • Continue to remove sections from the top of the stack in your right hand and place them in your left hand. When you run out of cards in your right hand, draw another ¾ of the bottom of the deck in your left hand and repeat steps 1-4.

About reflective tape

Above were described the classic Soviet reflectors. The modern possibilities of light protection and indication of vehicles have improved significantly, and now you can safely experiment with such an element as reflective tape.

How to Correctly Install Bicycle Wheel Reflectors, Making sure they are Parallel to the rim

Contour marking tape is a regular strip of different widths on a self-adhesive or woven base.

The first one is intended for sticking on hard surfaces, and the second one is for sewing on items of clothing:

Of course, for a bicycle, the use of such elements is not necessary, but it can give the bicycle not only visibility in evening and night lighting, but also charm.

You just need to approach the design of the bike without breaking the rules. So, you cannot stick white elements on the back of the bike so that they can be seen by the driver riding behind, or red ones on the front. Also, in order to avoid confusion, it is not recommended to mix these colors into one, that is, to use a special tape to fence off an area where it is dangerous to be. This is the signal tape:

Pasting a bike with a warning tape is just bad form, except that it is prohibited.

How to make reflectors for a bicycle yourself

You can make a reflector for your bike yourself. It doesn’t take a lot of effort.

The easiest way is to use reflective stickers for the purpose of the reflector. Such reflectors are suitable as an additional element to standard reflectors. You can use a wide variety of colors, not only increasing the visibility of vehicles, but also making interesting decorative elements. But it’s best to stick with three standard colors and fit them on the front, side and rear of the bike, respectively. Accumulation stickers can be easily removed from the bike, which is also a plus of using them.

You can also make LED backlighting with your own hands. To do this, you need a tape with LEDs, a mount and a power supply. You can install the tape on a separate element of the bike or along the frame of the entire vehicle. After installation, it is imperative to treat the joint with silicone sealant.

When installing reflectors, it is worth considering their size and the material from which they are made. It is best to purchase large reflectors. The choice should be made in favor of plastic models, since the glass is easy to break or deform while driving. Try to choose lightweight models for mounting on the side of the bike.

How to install reflectors on a bicycle

Installation of reflectors. is it possible to ride without reflectors

According to traffic regulations, the owner of a bicycle must ride with reflective elements. By law, you need to install three standard reflectors: white, red and orange.

The procedure for their installation is strictly prescribed in the SDA. This is done so that the motorist can understand exactly where the bike is located and in which direction it is moving.

White is the front light reflector. It mounts on the bike’s front fork or on the steering column.

Rear. a red reflector is considered. It must be placed under the saddle or on the seat post.

Side reflectors are placed on the spokes of the bike. The side reflectors are orange. Many cyclists do not fit this reflector because they do not want to weigh the bike down. But for a normal ride in the city, installing a reflector on the spokes will not affect the bike’s maneuverability in any way. You should only worry about the ride quality after installing the side reflectors when the speed is very high.

The use of LEDs, as well as flashlights, is also spelled out in the rules of the road. These are optional elements for a bike, but they are still recommended for use.

What is a bike reflector for?

This device is based on the simple principle of retroreflection, in which the direction of the beam is reversed 180 degrees. With the help of it, the participant of the movement is noticeable in the twilight and poorly lit times of the day, which reduces the percentage of accidents. The difficulty is that most bicycle brands install reflectors on the pedals, and the rest must be installed by the owner.

The Road Traffic Regulations specify which types of reflectors need to be installed. For auto and bike owners, a similar requirement applies: orange devices are mounted on the side, white in the front, and red in the back. The front reflector can be attached to the steering wheel using a special mount available commercially. Side reflector to the spoke, and the rear reflector to the bottom of the saddle.

Bicycle reflectors are made from a variety of materials, ranging from plastic to glass. The body is made of chrome-plated metals, polystyrene and other substances.

Rules for choosing colors and mounting reflectors

Reflectors of certain colors must be attached to a bicycle, as well as to a car. Of course, nowadays, thanks to a huge selection of LED designs, in a variety of colors and configurations, it has become possible that a bicycle is able not only to return the light beam, but also to sparkle with all the colors of the rainbow.

However, traffic rules should not be violated. According to these rules, there must be a white reflector in front.

It simulates the light of an oncoming headlight and is designed to give reflected light signals to the oncoming lane. The shape of the front reflector is not regulated by traffic rules, so everyone can experiment as they wish.

Rear reflectors must be red. The height of their attachment should be at least 30 cm from the ground (when mounted on the rear wing), and higher for attachment to the seatpost.

As you might guess, the shape of the rear reflector should also be arbitrary.

Attention, important! The mount should be exactly in the center. In the event that you have outriggers, then you can take out the rear and front reflectors on the sides, and in front you can attach them even on the steering horns, if you like. The main condition is that they should be located symmetrically from the cyclist. The wider the distance, the safer for you, as any driver of an oncoming vehicle will instinctively assume you are wider than you really are. And until he sees you, he will be more ready to take to the right.

In the same case, if for some reason your front reflector is shifted away from the center, then the situation becomes very dangerous, reminiscent of an oncoming car with “one eye”.

In the event that for some reason you must move in the dark without headlights, having one asymmetrically located reflective element, then position it as far to the left as possible so that drivers of oncoming vehicles can see the closest dimension.

Before entering the oncoming lane, check that the reflectors, both front and rear, are located strictly perpendicular to the road and look straight ahead of the bike.

The side reflectors, by analogy with the side lights, which are designed to imitate them, are made orange. They can be mounted on wheels, but some fans are replacing them with turn lights that attach to the grip hubs. They can operate in both emergency symmetrical blinking mode, swing mode and constant burning mode.

The standard side reflectors are installed in a spacer on the spokes. There are no installation standards (number, distance from the hub or rim), but nevertheless, it is necessary that their installation on the wheels of the bicycle is symmetrical.

Appointment

Bicycle reflectors must be included in the kit. Traffic rules require the installation of white front and red rear reflectors on the bike, as well as yellow beacons on the pedals and spokes of the bike.

Because two-wheeled vehicles are unobtrusive on the road, a bicycle reflector can improve safety while riding. Naturally, reflectors do not emit light on their own. Therefore, they become noticeable only when aiming car headlights.

How to remove reflectors from a bicycle? Such a need often arises when it is necessary to reduce the total weight of the bike, as well as improve the balance of the two-wheeled vehicle when driving at high speed on the highway. In fact, with standard bolt and nut fasteners, the task is not difficult to cope with. However, some reflectors, especially the reflectors that are located on the wheels, are not easy to remove. To do this, you have to remove the knitting needles or damage the fasteners of the products.

Varieties of reflectors for a bicycle and their installation

Cycling in the evening and at night is quite dangerous due to the invisibility of wheeled vehicles. To protect yourself from a collision with vehicles moving on the road, reflectors on a bicycle must be installed.

How to correctly install reflectors

The correct installation of reflectors on a bicycle is described in the Rules of the road. According to the rules, reflectors are placed in the following order:

Today, the production of reflectors for a bicycle does not stand still.

In addition to the usual plastic and glass options, manufacturers make:

  • LED reflectors;
  • reflectors with spokes;
  • rotating reflectors.

The only rule is not to overdo it. If you put all existing types of reflectors on a bicycle, it will turn into a Christmas tree. An excess of reflective effect can cause accidents as well as a lack of it. In other words, everything should be in moderation, and bicycle reflectors are no exception.

How to install reflectors on a bicycle

There is nothing more interesting and exciting than a bike ride. And, whether it’s a walk in the city or in the forest, the bike remains a truly versatile mode of transport that works flawlessly under any conditions. The main thing is that his rider can cope with the control of his iron horse.

But along with the advantages, a bicycle is the very type of transport that is practically invisible at night. Traveling on it on the roads at night becomes dangerous. The most serious danger for a cyclist is collision in the dark with cars on the road. The trip becomes several times more dangerous if the owner does not take care of lighting his own path in advance and does not install reflective reflectors on the bike in a timely manner.

At night, the cyclist puts his life on the line. He can fall prey to moving vehicles. Bicycle lighting needs to be taken care of not only in order to ride on the track at night. In the dark, a cyclist runs the risk of becoming a victim of cars, even in the city.

Mandatory rules for the installation of reflectors

Installing reflectors on a bicycle is a mandatory rule for all bicycle owners. And also it complies with the rules of safety of movement at night. The law of mandatory installation of reflectors on a bicycle implies the presence of reflectors in all three colors: white, orange and red.

Bicycle reflectors: installation and features

The situation is aggravated by the cyclists themselves, ignoring the laws of riding this vehicle. Installing at least minimal protection in the form of reflectors on a bicycle is a basic rule. In addition, bicycle manufacturers do not pay much attention to reflectors, limiting themselves only to installing small reflective parts on the pedals of some models.

The owner must take care of the installation of reflectors on the bike on its other parts. Overall reflectors

Bicycle reflectors are a passive light source. This means that they are not visible in the dark. They can only reflect light. The main function of bicycle reflectors is to reflect light rays. According to the law of optics, the angle of incidence of light is equal to the angle of its reflection.

If cycling is only used during the day and only when absolutely necessary at night, then it is sufficient to install front and rear reflectors on the bike. To feel more confident on the road, it is better not to skimp on their installation. It is advisable to put the entire set of reflectors on the bike.

Today there are many different types of reflectors. They can be made of glass, inexpensive plastic, polystyrene, or chromed metal. A variety of forms of reflectors for a bicycle allows you to install them on any part of this type of transport.
