We figured out how to make a flashlight for a bicycle, now you need to attach it to your vehicle. The easiest way to do this is with a conventional plastic clamp. Drill the body of your device on both sides closer to the back wall, best of all, where there is a distance between the heatsink and the back wall. Thread a plastic strap through the hole and tighten it to a convenient location on the handlebars of your bike.
Done! You have made a bicycle flashlight with your own hands. It’s time to test it thoroughly in the evening driving conditions. Remember to bring your regular flashlight with you in case something goes wrong and your new bike flashlight needs work. Good luck on the road!
What do you need?
The easiest way to construct a flashlight is with these elements. Now on sale there is a huge selection of LEDs for every taste. You can choose the color and power according to your needs. The color of the beam can be either blue or red, but ordinary white LED illuminates the expensive nightlife best. If you want to get a really bright headlight on your bike, we advise you to consider elements with a power of at least 10 watts. In this case, drivers of oncoming traffic will experience a great shock when they find an ordinary bicycle where they expected to see at least a motorcycle. For a medium-power flashlight, a 5-watt LED will suffice.
You will need it so you can turn your flashlight on and off.
How to make a headlamp using an LED? This requires a lens. It is necessary to direct the light flux. Please note that the lens will be at some distance from the LED. You can take a piece of thick acrylic glass. then the lens will turn out to be strong and light, or you can disassemble an old magnifying glass and use it in business.
It is required to dissipate heat from the LED. CPU heatsink can be used.
How to make a suitable lantern for a bicycle with your own hands so that its glow is enough to illuminate the night road? You will need to take such batteries, the power of which will be enough to power the LED you have chosen.
The body is of sufficient size and suitable shape to accommodate and fix all the necessary parts in it.

Types of lamp mounts
As we said, there are flashlights with and without quick-release mounts. In addition, there are also bicycle lights that are attached to the helmet. This is a good solution, because by turning the head, you can change the direction of the main light beam. You need to get used to such a flashlight.
Another option for attaching is using adhesive tape directly to the clothing. Such devices are rarely used as the main light source. often it is an additional lamp to the main one or a flashing beacon for other road users.
Another universal mounting option is an elastic strap, with its help you can fasten the flashlight in almost any place convenient for you. These straps are very comfortable and practical, but short-lived and are afraid of low temperatures.
What can a cyclist use a headlamp for?
Low-power headlamps have built-in batteries and their use on a bicycle is impractical, since there is not enough brightness of the luminous flux. This is especially true for speeds above 12-15 km / h. From increased shaking and a small light spot, it is almost impossible to see bumps and obstacles on the road.
When the light source is located directly next to the eyes, then this light creates little or no shadow. The observed picture is as if “flat”, which reduces the likelihood of detecting obstacles on the road. Only those who have a headlamp suffer from this disadvantage, for example, other cyclists riding in a group see a full-fledged picture with shadows.
A cyclist can use a headlamp as an additional or spare light device for a bicycle headlight, map light, or in a parking lot as a lantern.
Mountain (straight) steering wheel.
They are well suited for off-road use, but they only have one hand position (see numbers in the picture). If you install the horns, then another hand position appears.
If you need to go lower, for example, in a headwind, you still have to use the same hand position. Sooner or later, due to such an uncomfortable position, there will be discomfort in the back. Therefore, such rudders are undesirable for long distances on the highway. They will be a rational choice for rough terrain, when you need to quickly turn or overcome steep inclines, especially if the horns are connected to the side.
They require a 25.4mm stem and 22.2mm mountain brake levers and derailleurs. On-road components can only be installed with an enlarging bushing.

I decided to sew the bag like a bicycle backpack, but it’s much easier.
Required: a shopping bag, two fasteners of a 50 cm sling, a small piece of synthetic waterproof fabric, Velcro, laces, threads, scissors. He took a small bag as a basis, of which there were many at home.
Cut out a piece of black fabric for the valve cap. Turned out and stitched around the edges. I put the lid on the top of the back of the bag, inside. On the front edge of the lid, I sewed pieces of slings (with a margin) so that the fasteners move freely. The second part of the fasteners was sewn with small slings to the front of the bag. This increased the capacity of the product.
Also comes in handy a tool and bike repair kit
A loop is sewn on the back of the bag in the center for attaching two laces, which will help the product to be attached to the trunk in the future, which will prevent the bag from swaying during movement.
I attach the bag to the trunk of the bike with a rope, for threading which there are loops from the fishing line sewn in the upper part of the product. After each rope pass, wind up the barrel rod.Very pleased with this useful homemade product!

Note The product was very relevant on fishing trips, because spinning rods, although short, but with spinning reels are not very compact, and I freely put 4 such rods in my bag (see main photo).
Different types of lanterns
Lanterns differ in appearance from ordinary paper lanterns, yarn lanterns, chandeliers, etc.
You will see how they are decorated with people in traditional Chinese landscapes, flowers, birds, dragons, phoenixes, fish and so on.
Today I will show you. how to make two different types of chinese lanterns.
(an outdated old calendar card works well.) paper cutter ruler pencil double-sided tape cord
Prepare rectangular red cardboard (an expired old calendar card will work well).
Maintain a 0.5-1.0 cm border on both long sides of a piece of cardboard.
On the back (wrong side), measure and run evenly spaced, parallel mowing lines across the cardboard from border to border, then cut through with a paper cutter.
Bend the cardboard into a curved shape.
Cut off strips of duct tape and glue the two ends together.
Place a piece of duct tape on opposite sides of the top of the flashlight to attach the cord.
You can add some fringe at the bottom if you like.
Isn’t it great? And make it so easy!
Traditional palace lantern
The palace lantern has an oval shape. The frame of the lantern is made of thin wood and then covered with the finest silk and sometimes glass. Candles are placed inside the structure. Often depicting golden dragons and phoenixes on silk, these majestic lanterns are now crafted by experienced craftsmen and can be found in Chinese palaces.

Shadow paper lanterns
Shadow paper lantern. One of the oldest types of paper lanterns created by the Chinese, the shade paper lantern looks like red palace lanterns, but is covered with two layers instead of one. Drawings are drawn on the first layer, while the second layer is left blank. When the lantern is on, the heat causes the paper wheel inside the lantern to spin and the image appears on a second layer. Magic!
Gauze lanterns are cheaper as they are made from cheaper materials such as bamboo for the structure and gauze that covers the entire structure. Unlike traditional palace lanterns, gauze lanterns are multi-colored and come in a wide variety of shapes. Red is of course the most common color for these lanterns.
How to make a Chinese lantern (two methods)
Chinese lanterns are collectively referred to as “light colors” and represent a traditional Chinese craft dating back to ancient times.
Every year on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month in China, the Lantern Festival flashed and buzzed as people united under their symbol of unity. red lantern.
Later, the lantern became a symbol of all Chinese holidays and special occasions. With the advancement of technology, combined with improved artistic techniques, the Chinese lantern has become a wonderful symbol of the holiday.

Materials: 1) Housing from an old headlamp, 2) Battery with a maximum voltage of 5V, 3) PDIF connectors or any others of your choice, 4) Power button, 5) Board with LEDs soldered into it, 6) Red and black wires colors, 7) CD case, 8) Any transparent material, 9) Vitamin container, 10) Bicycle handlebar mount, 11) Screws and nuts, 12) USB connector, 13) Cable, 14) Heat shrink tubes.
DIY rechargeable bicycle light making process.
The body of the bike light will be the body from the old head lamp.
And to charge this battery, I took the PDIF connector from the speakers. Other connectors such as micro USB can be used. I just didn’t have any more connectors.
The PDIF connector was large in size, and using a utility knife I cut off unnecessary parts.
Using a clerical knife, we strip the ends of the wires from the connector.
We solder the stripped wires to the battery, but at the same time observe the polarity, red. plus, and black. minus. If confused, charging can damage the battery.
Next, we take a board with soldered LEDs, an on / off button and a battery and solder them in series with wiring.
We take the wiring and clean the ends with a knife, and use an electric soldering iron to cover the bare areas with lead tin solder.
We solder the black wires to the minus of the battery.
Then we solder the same wiring to the power button.
We take another wire, also black, and solder them with an electric soldering iron to the button, but to other contacts.
Now we take the red wire and solder it to the positive terminal of the battery.
It remains to solder the LEDs to the electrical circuit.
We solder red and black wires to the board with LEDs. Be sure to observe the plus and minus wires.
We check our circuit for performance. As you can see, everything works for us.
Next, using a glue gun, insulate the bare contacts with hot melt glue.
Now this whole chain must be placed in the case.
We take the case and make a hole on it with an electric drill slightly larger than the diameter of the PDIF connector.
Glue the connector itself near this hole. To do this, take the plastic case from the CD.
Flashlight Bicycle Light Mount (Using an InnerTube)
Using a marker, draw the next shape on it and cut it out along the contour using a clerical knife.
We glue it with a glue gun inside the lantern body as follows.
We place the chain inside the case. We glue the PDIF connector to the previously prepared place.
We glue the board with LEDs using a glue gun to the PDIF connector itself.
We place the battery and the power button in another place, and also fix them with hot melt glue.
We close this entire structure with a plastic part.
We also close the front part. To do this, take any transparent plastic material and cut a circle out of it.
Next, we take a plastic bottle from vitamins and cut its upper part.
On the sides, using a clerical knife, we make small indentations.
This flashlight can also be used as a head.
Now we need to attach this flashlight to the bike. To do this, we take a bicycle handlebar mount.
We make a recess on the mount and fix it on the flashlight.
We make a hole on both the lantern and the mount and fix them with a screw and nut.
Now you can attach the light to the handlebars of your bike and our bicycle light is ready.
We are starting to make a cable for charging a bicycle headlight. There are two types of connectors for this: USB connector and PDIF connector.
Next, we take the cable and clean its ends with a clerical knife.
Using an electric soldering iron, we solder the USB connector, PDIF connector and cable. Again, observe the polarity. In my case, the blue wire has a positive sign and the brown one. negative.
We close the cover of the USB connector, and apply the PDIF connector with hot glue and insulate with a heat-shrink tube.
That’s it, and your bike light charging cable is ready. Now you can charge the flashlight using any USB port. But the battery will no longer give out its 5 volts, since it will only charge from 4 volts.
These were the readings of the multimeter before charging.
Bicycle lights. these are very necessary and important elements for a bicycle. Indeed, due to them, we safely drive on the roads. And it’s not difficult to make it, the main thing is to have patience, and everything will work out.!

Types of steering wheel lights
There are two types of steering wheel lights:
- Removable. It is very popular with cyclists. If necessary, these lights can be removed.
- Non-removable. Characterized by high quality and durability.
Semi-cylinder removable mount. this type of bracket is called the golden mean between hard-to-remove and elastic mounts. Installation on the steering wheel is done once, while there is the possibility of changing the lamp itself. Ideal for any bike model or riding style. Any flashlight, even tactical, can be used.
- universal type of installation;
- does not get loose over time;
- the possibility of unlimited use of a flashlight.
It’s important to know! Exactly the same types of fasteners are used to mount the rear bicycle lights. Some of them are already equipped with a flashlight, while others are purchased separately.
How to choose a bike handlebar light?
Factors to look out for when choosing a bike flashlight:
- Power type (batteries or rechargeable battery).
- Functions. Expensive models have many useful functions in their arsenal. For example, a special sound signal, a choice of a light mode, etc.
- Mount type. You can fix the product in different ways. There are several types of fastening (removable, mounting, elastic).
- Reflector type. New models have 2 types of reflectors in their arsenal (a reflector with a textured surface, a reflector with a smooth surface).
- Light parameters. There are a large number of light parameters: illumination, light diffusion, luminous flux, etc.
Light parameters are one of the main factors when choosing a lamp for a steering wheel. When choosing, you need to pay attention to the distance of the light beam and brightness. And also an important parameter is the angle of illumination. Give preference to models that have a large angle of illumination.
The best light parameters are provided by the steering wheel lights with a textured reflector. The luminous flux is uniformly directed in all directions. At the same time, the road surface is illuminated perfectly.
The range varies from 30 to 100 m. Give preference to models with a range of more than 70 m. Such light parameters allow you to move along the tracks.
Brightness can be adjusted separately. There are several backlight modes:
- Low brightness.
- High brightness.
In cheap models, this parameter is not regulated.
As a rule, the purchase takes place in the morning. Therefore, it is quite difficult to check the lamp on the steering wheel. In this case, you need to pay attention to the packaging.
The luminous flux value must be indicated on the box:
- 10-30 lm. Used to illuminate the road right under your feet.
- 300-500 lm. Used for driving on highways.

Good day! I remembered something about the fasteners on the steering wheel, I wanted to share it, so then there will be a copy-paste (the original was formed on May 5, 2013) of my own composition from the bicycle forum, with the corresponding amendments and clarifications, measurements and pictures.
This is called the Sigmasport Karma Headlight Mount.
I decided what suits me (especially since they made a discount of about 40%. I wonder why?), Bought 2 pieces and went home. Taking a screwdriver in my hands, I was amazed at how much this fastener suits me! Yes, it is made for attaching the flashlight to the steering wheel! Apart from these two fasteners, I did not need ANYTHING!
Actually, how it was going: we look at the mount from the side of the headlamp platform and see the screw. Carefully remove the elastic from the opposite side (the elastic is nice, tight, holds well) to gain access to the nut (which is at the other end of the screw). We unscrew the screw and take out the nut from one fastener.
We are not interested in the headlamp mounting pads, but we combine the fasteners at an angle of about 90 degrees to each other with holes from under the unscrewed screws (there, at the docking place, teeth that allow you to rigidly fix one clamp relative to the other in the desired position) and tighten with one screw and nut! EVERYTHING!
Well, okay, not everything =) ideally, replace the screw with a slightly shorter one so that it would not stick out, but I had a screwdriver with an emery wheel at hand, about which 2-3mm screws were turned into dust. Now that’s it!
Keeps dead! What a lantern, what a steering wheel. over, when turning the bezel, there is not even a hint of displacement of the body of the lantern. Traveled more than 300 km with this design, everything is reliable.
True, being a moderately pedant, I still insure myself. I fix the lanyard on the steering wheel (with a loop, just like it is attached to the lantern), what if something happens, the lantern flew off into the asphalt, but hung on the steering wheel
Removable without tools. What a lantern, what the construction itself. Is put too.
When folding the bike (I have it foldable, full-size does not fit into the apartment) does not interfere.
Weight 41.15 grams. Reliably clamps pipes (lamp housings) from 20 to 30 mm. Better up to 28-29 mm. (Fenix LD 10, ZebraLight sc52. tightly) The design, by the way, is much more elegant than the native Phoenix holder.
A couple of pictures on the steering wheel. I apologize for a bunch of crap in the frame =) and for shooting on a mobile phone. Now led to lay out I will not be for reshooting on phot =) Laziness.

Cons:. it cost 350, if I don’t confuse)
What trips do you need a flashlight for?
First of all, a bicycle flashlight is needed for traveling on country roads. As a rule, there is poor lighting outside the city, so you need to take a high-quality flashlight or bicycle headlight with you.
If you like to ride on country roads, then pay attention to the models that have several operating modes (high beam, low beam). If necessary, you can switch the type of light beam.
When driving on country roads at night, sometimes one light source is not enough. In conditions of poor visibility, a pair of flashlights must be used. One light source can be mounted on the helmet.
Also, this device is required for city driving. If you like to ride a bike in parks, squares, country roads, stadiums, then you need a high-quality lighting fixture.
Give preference to models that have a wide glow angle. Such models perfectly indicate the presence on the road. In poor visibility conditions, it can save lives.
Therefore, the first rule when choosing is to give preference to products from well-known manufacturers:
There are two types of fastening:
- Removable mount. The most popular type of attachment. The advantages of such fasteners include: convenience, ease of installation, cost, simplicity. The design is very simple. This is an ordinary cylinder. These fasteners are made from various materials (rubber, plastic, steel, etc.). The flashlight can be easily removed if necessary. This is what criminals can take advantage of. Therefore, the bike must not be left unattended.
- Elastic fastening. Such fasteners are made of silicone. It will take a few seconds to install. The advantages of elastic fastening include: ease of installation, affordable cost. In the cold season, you cannot use the elastic mount.
