In this article I will tell you how I solved this problem. By replacing loose balls with industrial bearings, I was prompted by constant problems with the rear wheel hub. Since the familiar turner was not nearby, I had to strain my imagination in order to solve such a problem as quickly and simply as possible. The reliability of the structure should also be decisive in the created structure, but this quality can be checked only after a long time. To implement the idea, I needed only one standard axle with a diameter of 10 mm with cones, two industrial bearings (outer diameter. 28 mm, inner. 12 mm) and a piece of thin-walled pipe with an outer diameter of 30 mm.

So, let’s begin. For a start, the installed bowls were pressed out of the rear wheel hub. The trailing edges turned out to be a little rolled inward and I had to work well with a file to achieve a flat surface. Then I took a piece of pipe and a special workpiece from a piece of a piston pin with a diameter of 28 mm, one end of which was turned a little on a taper.

This segment began to increase the pipe diameter up to 28 mm for the bearing.

After all these actions, he cut a piece of pipe to the desired length and processed the outer diameter on emery to 30 mm of this homemade bushing (hereinafter simply referred to as CB) from the side that will enter the wheel hub, leaving a small shoulder on the outside.

Next, I inserted the bearing into the CB and pressed the entire structure into the wheel hub and lightly tapped it, achieving a full landing of the CB into the wheel hub.

I did the same on the other side of the wheel. I inserted the axle, prepared in the manner described below, into the bushing, counterbalanced and checked the ease of movement and runout of the wheel.

Everything turned out to be just wonderful. I must admit that if deficiencies are identified, the SV may have to be done anew. Possible malfunctions include the lack of alignment of the bearing seats (the bushing was processed manually and the thickness may not be uniform), which can lead to wheel runout.

The axis left the same as it was. Only I had to modernize a little. For this, the cone on the side of the taper was ground on emery to a diameter that allows it to be inserted into the bearing.

Ultra-high accuracy is not required here and it will be sufficient if the modernized cone is freely (without loosening) inserted into the bearing.
