How to teach your dog to move and tow your bike?
In urban conditions, dogs, like people, suffer from physical inactivity, because hiking may not always be stressful enough. In such cases, cycling in the summer can be very helpful. What it takes to make them pleasant for the owner and useful for the dog?
Protect yourself first (helmet, knee pads and elbow pads), especially if you have to ride on hard surfaces such as asphalt, gravel or gravel. And for a dog, it is worth buying a bicycle springer, a special device that will help to adjust the load and make the ride safe. This is especially true when training show and sport dogs. The cycling springer attaches to the dog’s collar. In this case, it is better to use a half-choke collar, which will tighten if the dog moves in the wrong direction, and loosen with the correct movement. In addition, it does not interfere with breathing. This will allow the dog to move alongside the bike at a calm pace. If it is necessary to work with a dog under stress, then it is better to use a sled harness. In addition, it is desirable to have an additional leash in your hands in order to be able to control the movements of the dog. If she is not very obedient, and possibly aggressive towards people or other dogs, you should use parfors to be able to correct her behavior.
Before you start cycling, you should train your dog to be comfortable with the bike. The bicycle should become a “comfort zone” for the dog. To do this, we bring the dog to the bike and let it sniff. If the dog reacts calmly. praise. If you are afraid, we put the bike on the ground and once again let us down and encourage it with a treat, play and praise.
Before you go with the dog, it must be taught the control commands: “Forward”, “Stand”, “Near”, “Fast”, “Hush”, “Right” and “Left”. Training should begin in places where the likelihood of meeting other dogs and people is minimal, and the road has good coverage. The leash should be held in your left hand, gathering its end into an accordion. This is necessary in order to firmly fix the steering wheel with your right hand. The leash should not allow the dog to deviate more than half a meter. In this position, the dog is on the left side of the bike, and the bike is on your left. If you are used to driving the dog on the right side, then do everything in a mirror image. Command the dog “Forward”, then start moving next to the bike. When the dog tries to pull. encourage with your voice. If the dog deviates, correct with a leash.
When the dog learns to move forward, then you can begin to practice the command “Fast”, simply by accelerating the pace of movement. If the movement is too fast, then you can brake with the hand brake, but you should not brake with commands.
Stops should start working out after 300-500 m, after you have passed. Command “Stand” and at the same time pull on the leash. After the dog stops, give praise. Be sure to alternate forward movement and stops during training.
Turns are first practiced on foot next to the bike. The dog is on the left side. The cyclist turns the steering wheel to the right, at the same time the command is given and the leash is pulled. If the dog enters the turn correctly, it is encouraged with a voice and a treat. In this case, sharp turns should be avoided. The same is done when turning left. The steering wheel is fixed with the right hand, keep the dog in the left. The turn of the steering wheel must coincide with the command and must be encouraged if done correctly.
When working out the “Hush” command, the cyclist slows down the bike and at the same time pulls on the leash, forcing the dog to slow down. When the pace is right, the dog is bragging.
The “Nearby” command can also come in handy. The leash tightens in the same way as in the “Hush” command. In the correct position, the dog is encouraged. In movement, the dog should move next to the cyclist.
And a few more tips: you can only work with a healthy dog! Do not feed the dog before training or give it a small portion (dry food causes increased thirst and it is better not to give it at all). You can feed it no earlier than 30 minutes after training. Don’t exercise in extreme heat! Pay close attention to the dog’s paws, especially if you have to move on a hard surface. It is advisable to have a small first aid kit with you, in which you should put dressings.
What threatens a drunk cyclist?
The advocates of a healthy lifestyle, and ordinary car owners, are happy to open the spring-summer period for the use of bicycle transport. But is cyclist driving always harmless for passers-by and other motorists? What responsibility is imposed on the owners of wheeled vehicles?
What does the management of bicycle transport oblige?
According to the rules of the road, the cyclist is the same participant in the road traffic as other owners of other cars. Since a bicycle is a mechanism with two wheels, it is rightfully called a vehicle, in contrast to rollers, skateboards, scooters.
However, all users of these seemingly harmless means of transportation bear the same responsibility for the safe movement of pedestrians and other vehicles (Article 12.30 of the Administrative Code). An administrative penalty is imposed on two types of non-compliance with the rules:
- Direct violation of traffic rules.
- Indirect violation of traffic rules (creating obstacles on the road, provoking an accident).
Traffic rules prohibit cyclists not only from transporting children under 7 years old without an additional seat, but also to hold the steering wheel with only one hand. Drunk riding on a bicycle is all the more dangerous and threatens with penalties.
The intoxication itself is not explained as a violation of traffic rules, but it definitely aggravates the guilt of the misconduct. The degree of guilt is determined by the judicial authority, which may be criminal in nature. Judge for yourself whether it is possible for a drunk driver to drive if:
- Mild and moderate injuries entail administrative responsibility under Art. 12.24 Administrative Code.
- Grievous bodily harm. criminal.
According to traffic rules 2. 7.the driver of a wheeled vehicle, along with other motorists, is prohibited from:
- Drive vehicles in alcoholic, toxic, narcotic and other intoxication; being under the influence of medications that inhibit the concentration of attention and reaction; in a sleepy and tired mind, entailing dangerous driving.
- Transfer the driving of the vehicle to individuals in alcoholic, toxic, drug intoxication; under the influence of drugs, sick or sluggish; children under 14 years of age.
A fine in the amount of 1000-1500 rubles is imposed for drunk cycling if the collision was without casualties. It does not matter how it was done: by the cyclist himself or he provoked him. Violation of traffic rules while sober is subject to 800 rubles.
Useful tips for bike owners
Here are the most common violations of the law by wheeled vehicle users leading to road accidents:
- Driving towards cars.
- Passage at a pedestrian crossing.
- No signal about further route change.
On a note! In accordance with Article 12.30 of the Administrative Code, traffic police officers have the right to impute guilt to the driver for provoking an emergency, regardless of whether the person pedaled while drunk or just walked next to the bike.
It’s not about the amount of the fine you get. The main principle that should be followed is the observance of road safety. Each rider has the opportunity to respect the safety of other citizens. After all, one illiterate cyclist can cause irreparable harm not only to several pedestrians and car owners, but also to himself. Will the driver’s license be revoked if the cyclist is caught driving under the influence??
A drunk driver of a bicycle without an engine or with an electric motor with a rated maximum power in a continuous load mode not exceeding 0.25 kW, automatically shutting off at a speed of more than 25 km / h, will not be deprived of his license, but will be fined under Part 3 of Article 12.29 of the Administrative Code in the amount of 1000 to 1500 rub.
If you are driving one of the newfangled motorized bicycles, you should be more careful. If the vehicle has an internal combustion engine or can reach a speed of more than 25 km / h, then it is equated to mopeds and liability already comes under article 12.8 of the Administrative Code.
A real example is shown in the Resolution of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of October 4, 2018 N 21-AD18-4. The Magistrate’s Court punished the cyclist with a fine of 30 thousand rubles. and deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of one and a half years. It was not possible to appeal the decision in any of the instances.
Drunk driving a bicycle: what will be the punishment after an accident
According to the law, it makes no difference that you are a driver of a personal car, minibus or bicycle. You cannot drive in alcoholic intoxication. Fortunately for drivers of this type of transport, the punishment for such an offense will not be as cruel as for car drivers.
The Administrative Code says that if the driver violates the traffic rules under the influence of alcohol, the fine will be from 1000 to 1500 rubles.
In case of violation of traffic rules, in which other road users also suffered, the cyclist will be issued a fine in the amount of 1000 to 1500 rubles.
If, during the violation of traffic rules, harm was caused to the life and health of other road users, the penalty will be a fine from 1000 to 1500 rubles.
If, during a traffic violation under the influence of alcohol, an accident occurred in which other persons were injured or property was damaged, the bike driver must take upon himself the compensation for the damage caused. According to article 151 of the civil code of the Russian Federation, the court can sentence the violator to compensation for moral damage. Let’s talk about this below.
Preventive measures applied by the law of the Russian Federation
In many developed countries, drunken cycling is punished with large sums, which are equivalent to car fines, deprived of driving licenses for other vehicles, and if an accident occurs due to the fault of a drunk cyclist, then they can even go to jail. In Russia, cyclists are treated more humanely, the applicable fines are not as severe as for motorists. The traffic police inspector has the right to draw up a protocol and prohibit a drunk driver from riding a bike, so then you will have to walk on foot. But in the event of a tragedy, of course, the situation that has occurred is always taken into account; both a cyclist and a pedestrian can be prosecuted. Here it is already to consider the circumstances and decide whether to give a term or not, the court.
So, from the side of the law, taking into account the amendments that are regularly updated by the traffic rules of the Russian Federation (traffic rules) and the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (Code of Administrative Offenses), a cyclist should not drive a vehicle while drunk. Let’s consider in more detail what kind of punishment is coming for such a violation of the rules, if you get caught drunk while driving a bicycle to representatives of the law.
A bicycle is, by definition, a vehicle, and a cyclist is its driver. The law states that under the influence of alcohol, drug intoxication or other state, due to which the driver may endanger himself or other road users on the road, it is impossible to take control (clause 2.7 of the SDA of the Russian Federation).
The Administrative Code on this occasion warns that driving in a state of intoxication due to alcohol or another substance, or transferring the steering wheel to people who are in it, entails inevitable subsequent results, the minimum of which will be the appointment of a fine of thirty thousand rubles with the confiscation of a driver’s license for a specified period from one and a half to two years. For subsequent offenses, the retribution is much more severe. But article 12 excludes cyclists from this category, since it means vehicles with engine displacement characteristics of 50 cubic centimeters and a developed speed of 50 km / h.
The presence of a license to a bicycle is not yet assumed, we do not take high-speed models into account, because some bikes may well overtake a moped, and a cyclist may, in principle, not have any driver’s license, but you should not neglect the study of traffic rules and following the rules.
The Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation issued a separate preventive measure for cyclists. According to article 12.29, any crime related to violation of traffic rules is punishable by a fine of eight hundred rubles. The next paragraph of the article reveals what the risk of violation of the rules for a cyclist under the influence of alcohol. And here the amount of the fine is from one to one and a half thousand rubles.
Can a bike be considered a full-fledged vehicle??
Velobike is not a mechanical vehicle. That is, if the traffic rules say “TS”, then this applies to bicycles, and if the specification is “mechanical vehicles”, then accordingly does not apply.
The driver becomes a pedestrian as soon as he gets off the iron horse and leads him next to him. Thus, the cyclist becomes a pedestrian who carries a certain load and this gives him the right to use the edge of the carriageway. But in the traffic rules it is said that within the boundaries of the settlement, pedestrians must go towards traffic, and pedestrians who drive a bike must go in the direction of transport. You can move on the side of the road as you like.
Is it possible to drive in a state of alcoholic intoxication and what is the penalty for driving?
No matter what vehicle the driver is driving, it is unacceptable to drive any vehicle under the influence of alcohol, even if the driver is riding a bicycle. According to the rules governing road traffic, a bicycle is nothing more than a vehicle. clause 1.2 of the SDA.
But for drivers who drive drunk bicycles, there are not such tough sanctions as for a similar violation committed by a car driver.
Is it considered a vehicle?
Although, as we have found out, a bicycle is a means of transport, it does not belong to a mechanical one. That is why, if “vehicle” is indicated in the SDA, then this is directly related to the bicycle, and if “mechanical vehicle” is indicated, then accordingly no.
In the event that the driver does not move on a bicycle, but leads him next to him, then he belongs to pedestrians, and not to cyclists. It turns out that this citizen is equated to a pedestrian carrying a large load, and accordingly such a citizen has the right to use the edge of the carriageway.
However, there is a clause in the current rules, according to which (clause 4.1 of the SDA) “Pedestrians outside the settlement are obliged to move to meet vehicles, while citizens riding a bicycle are obliged to follow the direction of traffic.” Movement on the side of these restrictions does not have.
Basic rules of transportation
In Russian cities, transportation of a “two-wheeled friend” in the metro is banal. There are only two exceptions to this rule. either a children’s bike or an adult bike will be allowed, but which is in a compact folded state. The reason that going with a bicycle to the subway carriages is categorically discouraged is quite simple. The design itself is quite large, and its wheels take up even more space.
If you measure the area that an adult vehicle takes up when unfolded, it turns out that the dimensions exceed the dimensions of the baggage that is allowed to be carried in the carriage.
Cyclists, who first dismantle the front wheel and put the structure in a cover, are allowed into the subway. However, in some cases, it will be possible to pass only by paying additionally for the luggage that appears, by purchasing another token.
There are a number of nuances in the rules of the St. Petersburg and Moscow metro. You can transport a bike only if it is for children, and it is done free of charge. In this case, the sum of three measurements cannot exceed 150 centimeters, otherwise it will be prohibited to enter the car with the structure.
An adult vehicle when folded must comply with the baggage rules: the sum of measurements in width, height and length cannot go beyond the 121 centimeters border. In this case, the carriage is free of charge. If the measurements are in the range from 121 to 150 centimeters, then you will have to pay the cost of one more token for the bike. It is prohibited to carry an item whose overall dimensions exceed 150 centimeters in the metro.
In the St. Petersburg metro, it is allowed to ride with any child’s bike, regardless of the parameters. However, it will first have to be packed in a cover so as not to stain other passengers and not to put dirt on the subway car. As for an adult bike, the sum of measurements should not go beyond 200 centimeters. In addition, the baggage should not interfere with the rest of the passengers, otherwise the metro employee may well impose a ban on transportation.
In the event of a conflict, it would be much more correct to resolve the situation peacefully and purchase another token as a payment for baggage transportation.
The MCC wagons should also be mentioned separately, since the rules of the monorail are similar to transportation in the metro. It is allowed to transport one bike free of charge, previously disassembled and fixed with special fasteners. We must not forget about protecting others from dirt and injury, that is, a cover or some kind of film.
Rules for transporting bicycles in the metro
Moving around the city by bicycle, sooner or later, any person is faced with the need to travel a certain distance by metro. Although the rules for using this vehicle are easy to read upon arriving at the metro itself, it would be much wiser to study them in advance in order to avoid any conflicts.
Quite often, information appears in official documents that transporting a folding bike is possible without any additional tweaks, but with this moment everything is not so simple. There is no clear information about which bike is folding, so the cyclist may adhere to the idea that his vehicle fits the description, but the metro employee decides that it should not be passed.
In principle, sometimes either a disassembled structure or one with the front wheel removed is suitable for the description of “folding”, but most often the human factor plays the leading role in a problem situation.
It should be noted right away that not only luggage is prohibited for transportation, the parameters of which go beyond the permissible limits, but also those items that interfere with entering or exiting the carriage or escalator, or in any other way create discomfort for metro employees and other passengers. Finally, piercing, staining or explosive elements are strictly prohibited. Therefore, for example, if the bike is in such a form that it can injure others, its transportation will be prohibited. The same applies to a structure covered in mud, even a child’s.
Any cyclist should also understand that it is strictly forbidden to ride on the platform while waiting for the train. This is dangerous not only for the extreme, but also for other passengers and even train drivers. Station attendants will immediately want to talk with the violator, after which they may even be removed from the metro.
How to transport correctly?
As mentioned above, in order to ride the metro with a bicycle, you must first disassemble it. It is more convenient to do this on the surface, where there are fewer people, and there is an opportunity to sit down on a bench, and then go down to the platform. The front wheel is removable and the steering wheel turns exactly 90 degrees.
It is more convenient to put the parts in a bag, bag or case so as not to harm other passengers. Traveling with a child’s bike is much easier: you can either do nothing, or somehow cover the structure with a cover or film, again, so as not to spread dirt. The folding bike is transformed according to the instructions: the frame tubes are bent, and everything is hidden in the cover that comes with the kit.
Moving down the escalator with a folded structure, it is better to put it on the right side, and on the left, sit on your own, if there is no abundant flow of passengers. It is important to fix the brakes of the device and try to be as stable as possible on the steps.
It is necessary to occupy the area inside the carriage located opposite the doors. You should not go to the middle of the cabin if there are no free seating places, as well as lean the bike against the sliding doors. It is recommended to place a “two-wheeled friend” in a case across the passenger compartment. this way it will take up less space and will not disturb moving passengers.
In old-style trains, it is best to occupy space either at the first door of the first car, or at the last doors of the last car. If the existing carriage is of a new type, then the outer doors of each carriage are more suitable.
It should be remembered that transporting a bicycle by metro or other public transport is a rather difficult and not always pleasant process. Experts recommend turning to this method only when absolutely necessary, because climbing just like that with a rather large load at rush hour, it will be possible to deliver unpleasant sensations not only to yourself, but also to everyone around you.
It is recommended to go down into the subway if there is no strength for the way back on wheels, the bike is taken as a gift, or the device requires mandatory repair. It is also worth carrying the bike into the carriage if you are planning a country bike ride and you need to get to the start of the route. It is worth planning the use of the underground in such a way as to avoid periods of congestion on underground lines.
It is better to develop a path even before the direct underground journey and include in it the minimum number of transitions from one branch to another. Ideally, it is better to travel with a bike in the morning or late at night. In addition, it is wise to pre-study the existing rules for the use of underground transport. The document provides not only information regarding the rights and obligations of passengers, but also recommendations on how to act in an emergency.
Despite the existing rules, conflicts in the metro can still arise. In this situation, it is better to be patient and try to solve the problem in the most peaceful way. Compliance and courtesy are still able to come to the rescue. In addition, it is important to take into account the needs of other passengers and be prepared for the fact that they are able to complain to the employees of the subway in case of discomfort.
It should be added that experienced cyclists are advised to immediately take a cover with you for a walk. It does not take up much space, weighs relatively little, but its use always calms the metro employees and solves the problem in favor of the passenger.
It is better to start communicating with the controllers with a respectful greeting, a smile and a direct question whether it is possible to go down to the platform with the bike. In most cases, the employee will recommend removing the first wheel, after which the baggage rules are followed. In addition, it is still prudent to immediately have a spare token or card, paid for at least two trips, so that, if necessary, still pay for the carriage of the vehicle.
In addition, if a person is not allowed through at one station entrance, you can get to another and try to repeat the procedure. The same applies to the station. if you are unlucky on one, then on horseback you can get to another and repeat the procedure again.
For information on how to ride the subway with a bike, see the next video.
TOWING A BIKE WITH ANOTHER BIKE
But each rule can be approached. For example, if you remove the front or rear wheel, you can achieve the specified criteria. Then, of course, you will have to pay for the bike as for luggage, but then no one will say a word to you that you are breaking the rules.
By the way, they have such an absurd meaning that it is unnatural to even carry them out. Judge for yourself, it is safer to roll a bicycle on full two wheels than to drag it on one, and even hold the removed wheel somewhere.
In almost all models of bicycles, the wheel is quite easy to remove, so you will not experience any special inconvenience. You can even try to take a chance and put the wheel back after checking at the turnstile. And the understanding workers of the metro have not yet disappeared. But be prepared that the attendant can stop you and not even let you into the station.
The subway is not ideal for transporting a bicycle; it can only be used as a last resort. over, during peak hours, you simply cannot carry it through an endless crowd of people. Therefore, choose early morning or late supper. And for riding around the station, you can even earn a fine. Think three hundred times: it might be better to travel the required distance in the fresh air, and even thereby bring health benefits, than to suffer with a bicycle in a stuffy subway.
The rules stipulate that the bike must be packed in a special case, or at least in polyethylene, tied with a strong rope, before getting on the plane. Either you worry about it at home, or you will be stopped and demanded for a packing service of about 30.
Keep in mind that all operations for loading into the luggage compartment are performed by a person, so make allowances for the human factor. Wrap fragile parts with a soft cloth, put foam or corrugated cardboard inside the cover.
Remember that since this is non-standard baggage, the loading conditions are different. When boarding, you will have to go to a special conveyor with an extended belt and place your load on it. Upon receipt, the issue will be carried out in the “oversize luggage”.
Carrying a bike on public transport
Cycling enthusiasts sooner or later face such a problem as transporting a bicycle, and different types of transport have their own nuances. Ideal if you have a personal car.
But the greatest difficulty, of course, is the transportation of a bicycle by public transport. An accident can take you by surprise, so every cyclist should be aware of the rules for transporting his two-wheeled friend. We will talk about them in this article.
There are not so many places to place an iron horse. This is either the space in front of the first row of seats or between the seats. In both cases, you need to listen to your fellow passengers, because a massive bike can get in the way.
It’s not safe to drop your bike in the vestibule unless you intend to stand there for the entire ride. Or use professional protection, although it cannot give a full guarantee.
Long distance trains
But first things first. To get started, get a special bike cover or sew it from a thick fabric. Take a minimal set of cycling tools with you on the road, as well as a few tight ropes.
For the bike to meet the necessary requirements, you need:
- Remove small parts such as bicycle fenders, reflectors, bicycle bells, etc.
- Front wheel must be unscrewed and tied with rope to frame to protect derailleur
- Turn the steering wheel so that it is at a 90 degree angle.
- Push the telescopic seat tube down until it stops.
- Unscrew the bolts and remove the pedals
- Pack the bike and all parts in a cover
Thus, the conductors will have no reason not to let you in with such luggage.
Platzkart cars are known for the presence of a third shelf, so it makes sense to take tickets there. For the safety of passengers, tie the cover to its sides.
How the bike should be equipped
The bike must have good brakes, steering and sound signal. bell or beep. A rearview mirror and reflectors should also be installed: white at the front, red at the rear, and orange at each side. You can ride in the dark or in fog, but the lights on the bike must be lit: in the front. with white light, in the back. with red. If the lights do not work, you will have to dismount, that is, get off the bike and carry it next to you.
At what age can you ride a bike?
You can ride in courtyards and parks, sidewalks, bike paths or footpaths at any age. When it is allowed to drive onto the roadway, it is possible to do so unaccompanied by adults from the age of 14. Cyclists of all ages are prohibited from using motorways.
Do I need a helmet?
The use of a bicycle helmet and other protective equipment is not mentioned in the traffic rules, which means that you do not have to wear a helmet. Some cyclists use helmets at will, but this phenomenon cannot be called widespread in Belarus yet.
Experienced cyclists (and we completely agree with them) recommend wearing not only a helmet, but also a reflective vest, flickers or reflectors if you are planning a trip in the dark or, for example, in fog. These are simple safety measures that can keep your health or even your life.
How old can you ride a bike?
Explaining Traffic Rules in Human Language
According to the traffic rules in Belarus, cyclists have a unique status. they do not belong to pedestrians, but they are prohibited from driving along the carriageway like cars. Let’s consider in detail where and how to ride, so as not to get a fine and not cause an accident.
